Commercial Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) filaments were treated in solvents mixtures such as benzyl alcohol/perchloroethylene(BA/PER), benzyl alcohol/trichloroethylene(BA/TRI), benzyl alcohol/ethylene chloride(BA/EC), metha nol/perchloroethylene(ME/PER), and methanol/trichloroethyle(ME/TRI). Swelling of PET in solvent mixtures showed rapidly in the middle range of mixture ratio. Contribution of swelling of each component to total swelling of binary mixtures with increasing treated time was generally showed in proportion to the mixture ratio of the each component in dependence of the extend of swelling.

Background: The most consistently identified mortality determinants for the new coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) infection are aging, male sex, cardiovascular/respiratory diseases, and cancer. They were determined from heterogeneous cohorts that included patients with different disease severity and previous conditions. The main goal of this study was to determine if activities of daily living (ADL) dependence measured by Barthel's index could be a predictor for COVID-19 mortality. Methods: A prospective cohort study was performed with a consecutive sample of 340 COVID-19 patients representing patients from all over the northern region of Portugal from October 2020 to March 2021. Mortality risk factors were determined after controlling for demographics, ADL dependence, admission time, comorbidities, clinical manifestations, and delay-time for diagnosis. Central tendency measures were used to analyze continuous variables and absolute numbers (proportions) for categorical variables. For univariable analysis, we used t test, chi-square test, or Fisher exact test as appropriate (α=0.05). Multivariable analysis was performed using logistic regression. IBM SPSS version 27 statistical software was used for data analysis. Results: The cohort included 340 patients (55.3% females) with a mean age of 80.6±11.0 years. The mortality rate was 19.7%. Univariate analysis revealed that aging, ADL dependence, pneumonia, and dementia were associated with mortality and that dyslipidemia and obesity were associated with survival. In multivariable analysis, dyslipidemia (odds ratio [OR], 0.35; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.17-0.71) was independently associated with survival. Age ≥86 years (pooled OR, 2.239; 95% CI, 1.100-4.559), pneumonia (pooled OR, 3.00; 95% CI, 1.362-6.606), and ADL dependence (pooled OR, 6.296; 95% CI, 1.795-22.088) were significantly related to mortality (receiver operating characteristic area under the curve, 82.1%; p<0.001). Conclusion: ADL dependence, aging, and pneumonia are three main predictors for COVID-19 mortality in an elderly population.

Effect of Notch Shape and Hardness Ratio on Characteristics of Impact Fracture in Dual Phase Steels. In this study, it is investigated the effect of notch shape and hardness ratio on the characteristics of impact fracture in dual phase steels. The impact test was carried out at the temperature range from -40.deg. C to room temperature with Instrumented Charpy Impact Tester. The main results obtained are as follows; 1, The maximum impact bending strength (.sigma.$_{max}$) increases with the tensile strength. Also, the impact energy depends on .sigma.$_{max}$. 2, In room temperature, the impact energy depends on crack-initiation energy (E$_{i}$) in case of the high hardness ratio (R=3.4), whereas depends on crack-propagation energy (E$_{p}$) in case of the low hardness ratio (R=1.8) and the dependence of crack-initiation energy of the impact characteristics decreases with increasing test temperature. These phenomena are result from the difficulty of cleavage facet formation.ion.ion.

We propose recurrent neural network (RNN) methods for forecasting realized volatility (RV). The data are RVs of ten major stock price indices, four from the US, and six from the EU. Forecasts are made for relative ratio of adjacent RVs instead of the RV itself in order to avoid the out-of-scale issue. Forecasts of RV ratios distribution are first constructed from which those of RVs are computed which are shown to be better than forecasts constructed directly from RV. The apparent asymmetry of RV ratio is addressed by the Piecewise Min-max (PM) normalization. The serial dependence of the ratio data renders us to consider two architectures, long short-term memory (LSTM) and gated recurrent unit (GRU). The hyperparameters of LSTM and GRU are tuned by the nested cross validation. The RNN forecast with the PM normalization and ratio transformation is shown to outperform other forecasts by other RNN models and by benchmarking models of the AR model, the support vector machine (SVM), the deep neural network (DNN), and the convolutional neural network (CNN).

We prepared four different $MgB_2$ films on $Al_2O_3$ by hybrid physical chemical vapor deposition method with thicknesses ranging from $0.65\;{\mu}m$ to $1.2\;{\mu}m$. X-ray diffraction patterns confirm that all the $MgB_2$ films are c-axis oriented perpendicular to $Al_2O_3$ substrates. The superconducting onset temperature of $MgB_2$ films were between 39.39K and 40.72K. The residual resistivity ratio of the $MgB_2$ films was in the range between 3.13 and 37.3. We measured the angle dependence of critical current density ($J_c$) and resistivity, and determined the upper critical field ($H_{c2}$) from the temperature dependence of the resistivity curves. The anisotropy ratios defined as the ratio of the $H_{c2}$ parallel to the ab-plane to that perpendicular to the ab-plane were in the range of 2.13 to 4.5 and were increased as the temperature was decreased. Some samples showed increase of $J_c$ and decrease of resistivity when a magnetic field in applied parallel to the c-axis. We interpret this angle dependence in terms of enhanced flux pinning due to columnar growth of $MgB_2$ along the c-axis.
The temperature dependence of the magnetoimpedance (MI) effect is important both for scientific study and for thermal stability of MI sensor. We have performed the measurement of MI effect in amorphous $Co_{66}Fe_1Ni_1B_{14}Si_{15}$ (Metglas 2714 A) ribbon from a cryogenic chamber where the temperature of the sample can vary from 10 K to 300 K. The ac current was fixed at 10 mA for all measured frequencies ranging from 100 KHz to 10 MHz. The magnetoimpedance ratio (MIR) was revealed the drastic increment as a function of MIR (T) = MIR (0) exp(cT$^2$) where c is a constant. The measured MIR values at room temperature are usually 2-3 times larger than the data measured at 10 K for all measured frequencies. However, the shapes of the MIR curves are remained. This result shows the potential application of the MI effect for a temperature sensor. The frequency dependence of MIR has shown the typical tendency where the maximum values of MIR are increasing ans also the shapes of MIR curves are getting broader as the measured frequency increases.

SVLIW (Superscalar VLIW) processor, a family of VLIW processors schedules very long instruction words at runtime. If a very long instruction word that is to be issued occurs data dependence relations and/or resource conflicts with those words that were under execution, a long NOP word is issued instead of the word until all the data dependence relations and/or resource conflicts have been resolved. Thus, LNOPs can be removed in object codes for SVLIW processors. In this paper, we measure an improvement of the cache hit ratio caused by removing LNOPs in the object code. We also analyze an improvement of the processor performance due to higher cache hit ratio of the processor. Benchmark tests promise that the performance of SVLIW processors is improved more than 5% compared with that of traditional VLIW processors.
We combine the physics of the ellipsoidal collapse model with the excursion set theory to study the shapes of dark matter halos. In particular, we develop an analytic approximation to the nonlinear evolution that is more accurate than the Zeldovich approximation; we introduce a planar representation of halo axis ratios, which allows a concise and intuitive description of the dynamics of collapsing regions and allows one to relate the final shape of a halo to its initial shape; we provide simple physical explanations for some empirical fitting formulae obtained from numerical studies. Comparison with simulations is challenging, as there is no agreement about how to define a non-spherical gravitationally bound object. Nevertheless, we find that our model matches the conditional minor-to-intermediate axis ratio distribution rather well, although it disagrees with the numerical results in reproducing the minor-to-major axis ratio distribution. In particular, the mass dependence of the minor-to-major axis distribution appears to be the opposite to what is found in many previous numerical studies, where low-mass halos are preferentially more spherical than high-mass halos. In our model, the high-mass halos are predicted to be more spherical, consistent with results based on a more recent and elaborate halo finding algorithm, and with observations of the mass dependence of the shapes of early-type galaxies. We suggest that some of the disagreement with some previous numerical studies may be alleviated if we consider only isolated halos.
The ferromagnetic resonance and other magnetic properties dependence on $Ni^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ ratio and crystallite size were investigated for nano nickel ferrite ($NiFe_2O_4$). The crystallite size was controlled by controlling the nickel content in the starting material solution. The XRD and TEM were utilized to measure the crystallite size through Scherrer formula and particle size respectively. The most frequent particle sizes were lower than crystallite size, which ranged from 16.5 to 44.65 nm. The general behavior of M-H loop shapes and parameters showed superparamagnetic one. The saturation magnetization had a maximum value at $Ni^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ molar ratio equal to 0.186. The FMR signals showed, generally, broad linewidths, where the maximum width and minimum resonance field were for the sample of the lowest crystalline size. Furthermore, FMR resonance field shows linear dependence on crystalline size. The fitting relation was estimated to express this linear dependency on the base of behavior coincidence between particle size and the inverse of saturation magnetization. The given interpretations to understand the intercept and the slope meanings of the fitted relation were based on Larmor equation, and inhomogeneous in the anisotropy constant.
The energetic steam explosion caused by contact between the high temperature molten core and water is one of the phenomena that may threaten the integrity of the containment vessel during severe accidents of light water reactors (LWRs). We examined the dependence of steam explosion loads in a typical reactor cavity geometry on selected model parameters and initial/boundary conditions by using a steam explosion simulation code, JASMINE, developed at Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Among the parameters, we put an emphasis on the water pool depth that has significance in terms of accident mitigation strategies including cavity flooding. The results showed a strong correlation between the load and the premixed mass, defined as the mass of the molten material in low void zones (void fraction < 0.75). The jet diameter and velocity that comprise the flow rate were the primary factors to determine the premixed mass and the load. The water pool depth also showed a significant impact. The energy conversion ratio based on the enthalpy in the premixed mass was in a narrow range ~4%. Based on this observation, we proposed a simplified method for evaluation of the steam explosion load. The results showed fair agreement with JASMINE.
