The Network Characteristic Analysis of Research Projects on International Research Cooperation

  • In this study, the network analysis of researchers, institutions, and research principal agent was conducted to understand structure characteristics of international cooperation research project implemented from 1997 to 2018. The network of researchers and institutions were decentralized structure. On the other hands, the network of research principal agent was centralized structure. The Soul National University is the leading organization of international cooperation research project. In terms of research principal agent, corporation is the leading principal agent. In additions, the results of the network centroid analysis of the researchers and institutions were correlated with the research funds. As a result, it was confirmed that the network centroid of research organization was linearly related to research funds.

An Analytical Interpretation of Cultural Resources in Terms of Digital Archiving (디지털 아카이빙으로서의 문화자원에 대한 해석)

  • This paper starts with the question, what are culture and cultural resources? The meanings of cultural resources are mentioned historically and archaeologically. The culture dynamic is introduced and the cultural resources are interpreted as processes and practices along with which culture is produced and reproduced through the action of individual. Digital archiving concluds that the cultural resources are only meaningful when they are archived with their contexts and processes. Finally paper induces that cultural archives could be valuable, when they are preserved (synthetic), recognized (contextual) and enjoyed (exhibited, experienced or practically used).

A Study on the Perception of Librarians of the Impact that Libraries Have on Society

  • This study comprehensively analyzed domestic and foreign literature related to the value and impact of libraries on education, social behavior and economic conditions, developed a survey to investigate the librarians' perception of the libraries' value and impact, and accordingly investigated the perception of librarians according to the types of libraries in which they worked, public versus university. The results showed that the impact is greatest on education and literacy with a mean score of 3.98, followed by their social impact with 3.67 and their economic impact with 3.46. When subordinate items were analyzed it was found that the librarians perceived that the role that libraries are playing in the education area is expanding and their impact on reading and literacy is becoming greater and greater. Libraries were viewed as essential elements for education and the education system. When the difference in perception related to the impact of libraries was compared by types of libraries, the librarians in public libraries tended to rate their facilities higher than the librarians working in universities on most of the items.

Analysis of DOAJ-Registered Open Access Journals in Asian Countries

  • This study aims to understand the characteristics of Asian OA journals and to identify differences by the countries. 3,103 DOAJ-registered OA journals from 21 Asian countries as of 2020 were selected and analyzed from various perspectives using correspondence and correlation analysis. The results revealed that Indonesia had the most DOAJ-registered open access journals, followed by Iran and India. An APC was not charged by 70% of journals, but this varied greatly by country. Meanwhile, as a result of comparing DOAJ-registered Asian journals with international citation database listed journals, 11% of journals were listed on Scopus and only 2.6% and 0.1% were listed on SCIE and SSCI, which is represents less than half of the global level. In addition, although there are many free to read local journals in China, Japan, and Korea, the number of OA journals registered in DOAJ is relatively small. Therefore, it is difficult to say that the progress of OA in local journals is fast even if the country's global research competitiveness is high.

SWOT Analysis for Iran's National Innovation System based on Norwegian and Korean Experiences

  • Purpose - The objectives of this study are to find the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to the national innovation system of Iran (using a SWOT analysis) and to extract some strategic recommendations to modify the innovation policies of Iran. Research design, data, and methodology - This study used a literature review and field study. In the first phase, the author studied library resources and articles, and browsed through Internet information about the subject. The second phase was a field research investigation through designed questionnaires and interviews with more than 100 policymakers, officials, executives, and others related to the national innovation system in 2011. Results - In this research study, strategic recommendations were extracted through a SWOT model for improvements to the innovation policies of Iran. Conclusions - The findings of this study show the role of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the national innovation system of Iran and suggest strategic recommendations for its modification.

A Study on the Researcher's Perception Survey for Facilitating International Joint Research

  • In this study, we wanted to investigate and analyze the current status of international joint research conducted on researchers who have actually conducted or are doing international joint research and to identify difficulties in promoting international joint research based on this study and propose ways to promote future international joint research. As a result, autonomy of research subjects needs to be guaranteed for the revitalization of international joint research, establishment of international joint research guidelines and contract legal infrastructure, simplification and unification of administrative work system and supplementation of performance-related regulations will be necessary.

A Study on Evaluating Learning Effects Based on Analysis of Satisfaction in E-learning

  • This study examined student satisfaction with e-learning experiences in order to determine which factors had the greatest impact on reports of satisfaction among students at Konkuk University. We surveyed 4,889 students enrolled in e-learning courses and analyzed 830 completed questionnaires to identify factors that influence student satisfaction with e-learning. Results showed significant correlations between system factors and satisfaction ($R^2=0.577$; p = 0.000). The system factor with the greatest impact on satisfaction was course attendance rate (0.224; p = 0.000).

Characteristics of Scientific Method for the 8th Grade Students‘ Inquiry Reports (8학년 학생들의 탐구 보고서에 나타난 과학방법의 특징)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate eighth graders' scientific method of inquiry used in their reports. We developed a framework, 'Analysis of Scientific Methods and Information Sources', with a perspective of the Nature of Science to analyze students' planning method, data analysis, and information sources. We then compared results with levels of questions to find out whether they affected students' 'Scientific Method'. In addition, we analyzed students' responses of the survey questionnaire, e.g.. how they liked Scientific Method. Results are as follows: First, 'planning method' consisted of 'consultant' and 'activities'. The 'activities' were 'experiment', 'correlational study', and 'observation' Students planned by utilizing 'consultant' more than the other. In case of planning 'activities'. most of them were 'experiment' Second, 'data analysis' consisted of 'summary', 'table', 'chart', 'graph' and so on. Students analyzed their data by using 'summary' frequently. The types of 'summary' were divided into 'simple summary' and 'relational statement' Third, 'information sources' consisted of 'computer', 'library'. and 'professional consultant' Most of the students gathered information from 'computer' Fourth, the types of 'planning method' and 'summary' were affected by the levels of questions. Fifth, some of the students reported their difficulty in 'planning method' because the collected information was less reliable, lacking, and having difficult technical terms.

De-cloaking Malicious Activities in Smartphones Using HTTP Flow Mining

  • Android malware steals users' private information, and embedded unsafe advertisement (ad) libraries, which execute unsafe code causing damage to users. The majority of such traffic is HTTP and is mixed with other normal traffic, which makes the detection of malware and unsafe ad libraries a challenging problem. To address this problem, this work describes a novel HTTP traffic flow mining approach to detect and categorize Android malware and unsafe ad library. This work designed AndroCollector, which can automatically execute the Android application (app) and collect the network traffic traces. From these traces, this work extracts HTTP traffic features along three important dimensions: quantitative, timing, and semantic and use these features for characterizing malware and unsafe ad libraries. Based on these HTTP traffic features, this work describes a supervised classification scheme for detecting malware and unsafe ad libraries. In addition, to help network operators, this work describes a fine-grained categorization method by generating fingerprints from HTTP request methods for each malware family and unsafe ad libraries. This work evaluated the scheme using HTTP traffic traces collected from 10778 Android apps. The experimental results show that the scheme can detect malware with 97% accuracy and unsafe ad libraries with 95% accuracy when tested on the popular third-party Android markets.

Isolation and Molecular Analysis of Methanol Oxidation Genes in an Obligate Methylotrophic Bacterium, Metheylobacillus sp. Strain SK-5

  • Methanol dehydrogenase (MDH) is a key enzyme in the process of methanol oxidation in methylotrophic bacteria. However, information on MDH genes from genus Methylobacillus is limited. In this study, a 6.5-kb HindIII DNA fragment of Methylobacillus sp. SK-5 chromosomal DNA was isolated from the genomic library of the strain by using a degenerate oligonucleotide probe that was designed based on JV-terminal amino acid sequence of the MDH $\alpha$ subunit purified from the strain. Molecular analysis of the fragment revealed four tightly clustered genes (mxaFJGI) involved in the methanol oxidation. The first and fourth genes were very similar to mxaF (77% identity for nucleotides an 78% identity for amino acids) and mxaF (67% Identity for nucleotides and 68% Identity for amino acids) genes, respectively, from Methylovorus sp. SSI. Genes mxaF and mxaI encode $\alpha$ and $\beta$ subunits of MDH, respectively. The two subunits were identified from purified MDH from Methylobacillus sp. SK-5. A dendrogram constructed by comparison of amino acid sequences of MDH u subunits suggests that MxaF from Methylobacillus sp. SK-5 belongs to a subfamily cluster of MDH u subunits from $\beta$-subgroup Proteobacteria. The subfamily cluster is separated from the other subfamily that consists of $\beta$- and $\gamma$-subgroup Proteobacteria. This study provided information on mn genes from a methylotrophic bacterium in $\beta$-subgroup Proteobacteria, which would aid to better develop a gene probe to detect one-carbon metabolizing bacteria.
