Objectives: This study aimed to review the definition, qualification conditions, accreditation field, and system of Japanese recognized dental hygienists. It is expected that it will be used as basic data for the system introduction of the Korean advanced dental hygienists. Methods: From May to November 2020, a literature review was conducted on Japanese dental hygienists and Japanese certified dental hygienists. Results: The lifelong education system training courses to become Japanese certified dental hygienists consisted of basic training, special training, and specific training. Each training session lasted for 15 h, and the number of training hours required to complete the course was 30 h. The training items for the field of recognition A were prevention of lifestyle disease, home care, oral function management, rehabilitation for dysphagia, prevention of diabetes, and oral management by medical and dental partnership. The training items for the field of recognition B were dentistry for the disabled, dentistry for the aged, community oral health, and oral health care. Conclusions: The Japanese recognized that dental hygienist system is valuable as a demonstration model in introducing the Korean advanced dental hygienist system.
In accordance with the aged society, oral health care for the elderly is considered important to maintain general health. Although the role of dental hygienists is essential for proper health management of the oral cavity, research on the care system for the elderly people's oral health and on the role of dental hygienists in the field of elderly welfare is still insufficient. Hence, the aim of this study is to investigate the status of Korean elderly welfare system and dental hygienists by comparing them with those in Japan, a precedent of aged society. First, we compared and investigated the Japanese long-term insurance system, which provides an institutional basis for a long-term care system for the elderly in Korea. Second, the elderly welfare law and care system, focusing on oral care, were examined. Lastly, in elderly care, we analyzed the distinctions between Korea and Japan regarding dental hygienists' role and scope of work. Taken together, as a precedent of aged society, Japan has shown well-specialized and systematic welfare for the elderly compared with Korea. With the development of the welfare system for the elderly in Japan, the role and the work scope of dental hygienists have been expanded to improve quality of life of elderly people, as a key professional for elderly oral care. Therefore, we should perceive the need for improvement of long-term care insurance and the expansion of dental hygienists' work in Korea. In conclusion, these results could be used as basic data for improving the elderly welfare system and developing dental hygienists in Korea.
This study grasped recognition on a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly targeting dental professionals who are working at dental hospitals and clinics where are located in Daejeon Metropolitan City. It developed and utilized materials available for educating the care staff in a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly and the dental professionals who participate in the oral hygiene service. It carried out the effective duty performance for the elderly in a situation of long-term care protection. Thus, the purpose of this study was to contribute to the early settlement in a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly. The following conclusions were obtained as a result of having carried out self-administered questionnaire research targeting 238 people from August 1 to August 30 in 2008. 1. In the general characteristics of the research subject, the present working place was indicated to be 22.7% for dental hospital, 71.8% for dental clinic, and 5.5% for others. As for the main duty field, the medical treatment & cooperative duty was indicated to be the highest with 61.8%, and was statistically significant(p=0.000). 2. The necessity for a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly was indicated to be 77.7% for 'necessary' and 1.7% for 'unnecessary,' and was statistically significant(p=0.016). 3. In the item of dividing the service of long-term care insurance for the elderly, the dental hygienists showed higher recognition than non-dental hygienists, and indicated significant difference(p=0.010). 4. As for recognition on a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly in dental professionals who responded as saying of 'knowing name and contents' about a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly, the recognition level was high in recognition of subjects' age(p=0.000), division in services(p=0.012), contents in at-home care service(p=0.000), execution in oral-hygiene service(p=0.004), procedure of using the long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.016), item of judging grade of long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.013), medical charge by service according to judging grade of long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.015), burden of cost for a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly(p=0.011), qualification of care staff(p=0.002), and contents of oral-hygiene service(p=0.027), and showed significant difference. 5. The service of long-term care insurance for the elderly and the oral-hygiene service indicated the statistically significant correlation. Accordingly, all of dental professionals need to make a desperate effort to improve dental professionals' knowledge on a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly enough to be required a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly. The more systematic and standardized professional education and materials are thought to be needed to be developed aiming at the success in oral-hygiene service within a system of long-term care insurance for the elderly, by strengthening professionalism in dentists and dental hygienists.
Purpose : This study was to figure out the factors affecting the job satisfaction of dental hygienists working in dental clinics. To gain the data to establish the systems for enhancing the job satisfaction of the dental hygienists. This research has been conducted dental hygienists working in dental clinics institutes located in Jeonju and Iksan city, Jeollabuk-do, korea. Methods : The collected data were analyzed by using an SPSS statistical program, obtaining the following results. Result : The average satisfactory level of the dental hygienists was 3.45 out of 5 points. The most important factor affecting of the job satisfaction was the relationship with patients as 3.83 points and the least influencing factor was the compensation as 3.09 points. The management system and the satisfactory level were also correlated. For each of details, communication structure and working environment showed the highest correlation with Pearson's correlation coefficient of 0.610. Among the management system the general job satisfaction according to the communicational structure was higher when they had better communication with dentists. Among the management system, the job satisfaction according to structural factors was higher when they have manuals for the job, when their job is taken partial charge of the responsibility As for job satisfaction by the welfare support factor in the clinic management system, the better an informal social gathering, the higher general job satisfaction. As for job satisfaction by the job autonomy factor in the clinic management system, the more evenly distributed job opportunities and chances of reeducation for professional development led to higher general job satisfaction. Conclusion : The compensation-related grade was the lowest among the 6 constituent factors of the job satisfaction, it seems that improvement of wages and incentives is required to enhance the satisfaction of the dental hygienists. Also, improving factors affecting the management system of the dental service institute can increase the job satisfaction since the job satisfaction was higher when the institutes have the better management system.
In order to provide the National Dental Health Program with dasic data, and to implove the laborartory managent style, the author studied the operational situations of dental lads through questionaire. The results are as follows, 1. Unlicensured personnel should be replaced by the licensured(from present rate lf 49.2% licensured to more than80%) 2. Minimum wage guarantee system as well as well as oage raise should be established. 3. Monthly balancing accounts system and bepreciation reserve accounts system should be established for the reasonable management. 4. Manufacturing period should be elongated from presnt 2.8 days to 5-7 days for quality betterment of the processes. 5. Medical insurance system should be applied to the dental processes. 6. Manufacturing cost should be increased by 35%. 7. Retirement grants lr retirement annuity system, improvement of occupational environ-ment, and holidays incentives, and participation in medical insurance system should be adopted for the wellfare of the dental technicians. 8. Laboratory managers should operate the lads with pride and valuation. 9. Business Management course should be included in the curriculum of the dental labo-ratory school. 10. Good relationship between Korean Association of Dental Laboratory Technicians and local laboratories shorld be improved.
This study was performed to development a dental three-dimensional laser scanning system and measure the accuracy of new adjustable upper dental impression tray. The metal stock, individual, and new adjustable stock trays were used for 30 stone casts(10 casts each) duplicated a resin master model of maxilla. The dental stone was poured in a vinyl polysiloxane impressions and allowed to set for on hour. The master model and the duplicated casts were digitized using an dental scanning system. The distance between the reference points were measured and analyzed on the graphic image of 3D graphic software of CATIA. The statistical significance of the differences between the groups was determined by a two-way ANOVA. There were no significant differences between the accuracies of the adjustable stock tray and the master model except only anterior arch width on the upper arch. The adjustable upper stock tray showed clinically acceptable accuracies of the study cast produced by them.
Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the recognition of the single tied system in dental hygiene education. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 302 dental hygienists in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province from May 1 to 30, 2013. The questionnaire included general characteristics, recognition of single tied education system, and duration of the bachelor course. The data were analyzed using SPSS(PASW statistics) 18.0 program for frequency analysis, t-test, and ANOVA. Results : The majority of the respondents agreed the necessity of the single tied system of curricula. The expectation of acquisition of bachelor and continuous education showed 3.23 points of 5 points. Pros and cons for the single tied curriculum system accounted for 50 percents respectively. The majority of the respondents(74.3%) agreed that there was no difference between the 3 year curricula and 4 year curricula. Conclusions : It is necessary to unite the opinion debate for the single tied curriculum system in the dental hygiene department through analysis and review for the curricula.
Background: To identify work-family balance and level of happiness among married women dental hygienists in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The goal of this study is to use the outcome as basic data to determine the compatibility of dental hygienists with work and family, systems, and improvement of happiness levels. Methods: From July 3 to August 10, 2020, 250 dental hygienists in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were targeted. The questionnaire comprised 65 questions, including general characteristics (perception of work-family balance, perception of work-family balance system, job satisfaction, parenting type, happiness level) whether or not they were implemented. The results were obtained through a self-control questionnaire. Results: The perception of work-family balance was significantly different in job rank and average income, while that of the work-family balance system had significant differences in workplace type, total work experience, current job work experience, childcare system status, and parental leave period. Happiness level and job satisfaction were significantly different in job rank, average income, and childcare system status. Additionally, the perception of work-family balance and that of the work-family balance system showed a positive correlation with job satisfaction and happiness level. Finally, the perception of married women dental hygienists toward work-family compatibility was determined, where the higher the satisfaction with the job, the higher the level of happiness. Conclusion: To improve the work-family balance and job satisfaction of dental hygienists and their levels of happiness, changes in social perception and improvement of the working environment such as proper staffing, flexible work systems, and incentive systems should be considered.
The background of this study is the observation that there is an increase in the number of elderly persons and the decrease in fertility rates, which may be related to the increase in the average age of the Korean people; accordingly, the national health insurance system changes every year following this pattern. However, this study investigates whether these changes are reflected in the dental hygiene curriculum. Data from the national health insurance system is reviewed for the last three years, and the recently published dental hygiene curriculum is selected, compared, and analyzed using a literature survey. The study is divided into two parts: information that is reflected in the dental hygiene curriculum and information that is not reflected in the dental hygiene curriculum, but which it is believed should be included. In addition, as the part reflected in the dental hygiene curriculum, it was stated in three subjects of dental implantology, dental prosthesis, and conservative dentistry, and there were four cases. Therefore, efforts should be made to ensure that the curriculum for dental hygiene students should reflect the changes in the national health insurance system so that students can more easily understand dental insurance claim processes.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status and satisfaction of dental CAD/CAM system. Methods: A survey of dental technicians was conducted and a total of 353 responses were used for analysis. The satisfaction difference according to career was analyzed by ANOVA and tukey HSD (α = .05). Results: Satisfaction with the design program was 3.64 ± .86, the highest among all items. On the other hand, the satisfaction with price was 2.75 ± 1.02, which was the lowest. The difference according to career was statistically significant in the following items. Frequent breakdown, single crown margin, bridge crown margin, retentivity, price, A/S, equipment training (p<.05). Conclusion: As the materials applied to dental CAD/CAM are expanding and the types of prostheses are diversified, the use rate of CAD/CAM is continuously increasing. The dental CAD/CAM system will need to be improved in a way that will satisfy all patients, dentists and dental technicians.
