Purpose: Dental fear hinders patients from receiving appropriate dental treatment. In particular, the noise generated by high-speed air turbines and ultrasonic scalers can adversely affect patients. Many efforts have been made to reduce the discomfort caused by noise, but no methods are definitively recommended. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of active noise-canceling (ANC) headphones in reducing the pain and discomfort associated with dental scaling. Methods: Fifty-five patients requiring scaling and root planing, aged ≥19 years and showing no auditory problems, were included. Scaling was performed for the bilateral maxillary molars and premolars while patients wore headphones, with ANC turned either on or off. The degree of noise and pain reduction in the on and off conditions were surveyed using a visual analog scale (VAS). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was performed to compare noise-and pain-related discomfort with ANC turned on and off. Results: The sample included 28 men and 27 women with a mean age of 45.45±13.12 years. The average noise-related discomfort score was 3.84±2.12 and 2.95±1.99 when noise-canceling was turned off and on, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Similarly, the average pain-related discomfort score was 3.78h±2.00 and 3.09±1.96 when noise-canceling was turned off and on, respectively, which was a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusions: The use of ANC headphones seems to reduce the discomfort caused by noise and pain in patients undergoing scaling.

In comparison of two group about state of use, service group showed more higher ratio of floss(66.1%), tongue cleaner(64.4%), gargle(56.6%) than non-service group. non-service group showed more higher ratio of toothpick(54.6%) than service group 4. Service group used auxiliary oral hygiene devices by suggestions of dental clinic(53.6%) and didn't use them because of uncomfortable to use(45.4%) or didn't know how to use(21.6%). 5. As result of the awareness-related using rate of auxiliary oral hygiene devices, service group showed higher using ratio except toothpick than non-service group. especially gargle(54.8%), tongue cleaner(43.3%), floss(35.8%) were showed high. 6. service group took a regular checkups more than non-service group and showed the highest ratio of each 1 year(43.5%) in checkup period.
This exploratory research investigated the factors that influence foreign tourists' decision to use dental services in Thailand. The questionnaire was used to collect data from foreign tourists who used dental services in a hospital or dental clinic in Thailand. Data from 233 respondents completed questionnaires were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The findings revealed that respondents were most likely to be Asian (54.5%) followed by European (33.9%), females (64.8%) aged between 26-35 years (39.1%), business owners (45.9%), and came to Thailand with friends (47.6%). Regarding travel purposes and contact with dental services, most of them travel for pleasure (52.89%) and contact the clinic directly through the Internet(63.95%) The health/medical services used included health check-up (34.48%), dental services (29.22%), and day spa/massage (23.23%). The dental treatment that respondents had completed or planned to do included dental check-up (29.87%), tooth cleaning (26.68%), and tooth whitening (11.41%). Based on the influence of $_7P$ factors towards the respondent's decision to use the dental service, it was found that the average mean score range from 4.33-4.15 which were at the high to the very high level of influence to their decisions. The people factor had the highest average mean score (mean 4.33, SD= 0.604)followed by the price factor (mean 4.32, SD= 0.651), which both had the highest level of influence. The physical evidence factor had the lowest mean score (mean 4.15, SD+0.752) which was at the high level of importance. It should be noted that the factor concerning the modern technology and dental equipment (mean 4.33, SD=0.606) and factor on the quality of service (mean 4.43, SD= 0.598) had the highest mean score followed by the total cost of the trip including services being reasonable (mean 4.37, SD=0.582). Regarding the country factor, it was found that this factor also had highest influence level (mean 4.30, SD=0.67) and affordability had the highest mean score (mean 4.39, SD=0.614).
Although the long-term success of osseointegrated endosseous implants for the support of fixed dental prostheses has been reported, the increasingly widespread use of implant-supported prostheses has led to problems associated with their structural integrity. The most common biomechanical complications observed in dental implant treatment are fracture and screw loosening. The nature of loosening or fracture of dental implant components is complex, since it involves fatigue, fitness, and varied chewing patterns and loads. To assess the service life of the components of the prosthetic system, a knowledge of the loads transmitted through the system is necessary. Design of the final restoration and occlusion in relation to the geometry of a prosthetic restoration has a great influence on the mechanical loading of the implant. It is proposed that control of force in oral cavity may play a larger role in failures than previously believed. Based on theoretic consideration and clinical experiences with dental implant, this article gives simple guidelines for controlling these loads.
Objectives: Using data from the 1styear of the 7th National Health and Nutrition Survey, this study administered a questionnaire to patients with oral damage and examined the type of medical care used based on the nature of the injury, further characterized by age group and sex. Methods: Of the 8,150 respondents, this study selected those who participated in the health survey and oral exam survey, excluding surveys with missing values, and set 7,681 people as the research participants. This study used SPSS Windows version 23.0(SPSS Inc. IL, USA) as the statistics program and applied the chi-square test (p) based on a complex sample and logistic regression analysis. Results: In the analysis of the type of tooth damage, there was a significant difference (p<.001) in the number of male patients who were injured due to exercise, violence, and safety accidents compared to females. However, there was no significant difference in their type of medical security and whether or not they visited a dental clinic. The patients with private insurance showed relatively high use for tooth extraction and oral surgery (p<.001). Conclusions: The best way to prevent tooth damage is to prevent the accident. For sports or exercises which may cause tooth damage, protective gear, such as a mouthpiece, should be used to prevent tooth damage.
Objectives: This study tried to use information from the university information disclosure system as basic data to understand dental hygiene departments and search for development directions by analyzing major indicators through information disclosure data collection. Methods: Based on the information released from 2019 to 2021, 53 three-year universities with dental hygiene departments nationwide were analyzed based on data from the last three years of university alerts. Results: The indicators that the colleges with dental hygiene departments had higher averages than the overall junior colleges were: rate of levy with enrolled students within the quota, rate of faculty in full service, rate of lectures conducted by faculty in full service, employment rate, and annual scholarships per person. In the dental hygiene departments, acceptance rates of new students were 1.46-30.53 (average 10.24), admission quota was 27-160 (average 70), the number of continuing students was 39-515 (average 209), number of scholarships was 1,368,348.50 won-4,581,073.13 won (average 3,515,647.32 won) and the employment rate ranged from 57.6% to 98.9% (average 82.8%). Conclusions: In order for the departments of dental hygiene to be competitive, it is necessary for colleges to find ways to increase pride in, and satisfaction with their departments. After graduation, if the professional dental hygienist system is established and the legal role as a dental hygienist is expanded, it will be possible to move forward as a competitive department.

This study aims to investigate changes in dental service use among pediatric patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis was performed by collecting information about the number of visits, age, gender, diagnoses, and treatments for patients at the Pediatric Dentistry Department of Seoul National University Dental Hospital from January 2017 to December 2022. Compared with the period from 2017 to 2019, the total number of visits decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a substantial decline in 2020. Patients in all age groups, except those aged 10 - 14, experienced decreased visits, and there was no significant gender difference. Z29.8 (need for other specified prophylactic measures) declined in all age groups, especially among those aged 0 - 4, except for those 20 years and older. K02.1 (caries of dentine) was sought by the age groups in the following order: 10 - 14, 15 - 19, 5 - 9, and 0 - 4 years, with the most significant decrease in the 0 - 4 years age group compared to others. K07.4 (malocclusion, unspecified) decreased in younger groups aged 9 and below but increased in older groups aged 10 and above. During the period from 2020 to 2022, preventive, restorative, pulp, and trauma treatments decreased, but surgical and orthodontic treatments increased compared with the previous three years. The use of sedation decreased and general anesthesia increased during COVID-19 compared to pre-pandemic. This study describes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric dentistry, making it a valuable reference for future pandemics.
