Special attention should be directed toward the preservation of preoperative condylar position during orthognathic surgery because their positional change may leads to postoperative skeletal relapse as well as TM joint problem. Various condylar positioning devices, therefore, have been introduced and utilized in orthognathic surgery. Even though most of them provided us with improvement of surgical results, we also found some problems including limited indication, etc. For more accurately repositioning the maxilla and the mandible and its wide versatility, a newly designed maxilla and condylar positioning device based on the fixed part of cranium is introduced.
This is to report a case of traumatic bone cyst which occurred in the left condylar head of the mandible. It is a very rare case and the prognosis after operation seems to be fair, therefore we report as follows. 1. The pt, a 49 year-old female, has been suffering from difficulties of mastication with disfiguration of face due to deviation of mandible to the right side for 20 years. 2. Histopathologic findings showed the figure of multilocular bony cysts contained with fibrous tissue, osteoid tissue and many hematopoietic cells 3. Roentgenographic features showed well circumscribed radiolucent lesion with some radiopaque area. 4. After clinical evaluation, condylectomy was done to remove the lesion. 5. After the operation, the esthetic problem and masticatory functions were improved.
Food impaction between the implant prostheses and adjacent teeth is the most frequently observed problem. It may be caused by the migration of the adjacent teeth. This symptom may be observed at the mesial aspect of implant prostheses especially, and related with the multiple contributing factors including teeth vitality and antagonist. Idal proximal contact with optimal strength and shape should be made for preventing the food impaction. Shape of customized abutment and prosthesis should have optimal emergence profile. Long duration from the extraction to the delivery of implant prostheses, the adjacent teeth and antagonist teeth may have possibility of occlusal interferences. Remained teeth mobility can induce the food impaction regardless of interproximal contact strength. Occlusal adjustment to remove occlusal interferences can be a method for enhancing the stability of interproximal contact.

When patients with cerebral palsy are put under general anesthesia, there may be problems like difficult endotracheal intubation caused by deviation of respiratory tract due to scoliosis, hypotension related to chronic malnutrition and anemia, and failure of ventilation due to deformation of the thoracic cavity. The main clinical problem of postanesthetic complication is hypoxemia. The patients with cerebral palsy need close monitoring during treatment under general anesthesia and postanesthetic management. The purpose of this report is to evaluate a patient with cerebral palsy and mental retardation appeared to have dyspnea after general anesthesia.
This study was carried out in order to seek social support direction by allowing them to recognize necessity of preparing for their stably old age life and by inquiring into the preparation for old age life targeting dental hygienists who work at dental clinics. It sent questionnaire by post to dental hygienists of 1,560 dental clinics, which were sampled with a stratified sampling method, and then conducted a cross-sectional study based on self-administration. As a result of a problem of being worried in old age life, the ratio with the response as saying of being 'economy' was indicated to be the highest. The ratio of financial preparation for old age was shown to be high with 84.3%. Its method was the highest in 'fixed deposit and installment savings' with 62.6%. The satisfaction with financial preparation for old age stood at averagely 2.60, thereby having shown to be dissatisfied. It was shown to be low with 2.97 in the mean score of physical preparation for old age life, 3.59 in emotional preparation, and 2.56 in preparation for leisure. In conclusion, the satisfaction with financial preparation for old age life in our country's dental hygienists was low. Even the physical, emotional, and leisure-based preparations were shown to be low. Hence, it is considered to be likely needed to be planned preparation for old age life from the 30s. Also, for this, Korean Dental Hygienists Association needs to positively develop several kinds of programs such as education, policy and system for old age life following these people's retirement.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the educational effect of cooperative learning, which enables learners to make portfolio by taking advantage of their knowledge and skills acquired through practice, on an oral prophylaxis practice course in an attempt to stir up the spontaneous learning of learners, their learning interest and problem-solving skills. Methods : The selected dental hygiene students engaged in cooperative learning in oral prophylaxis practice III class in the second semester of their sophomore year by utilizing portfolio that was prepared by altering an inclusive dental hygiene practice model. They completed all the 15-week practice course, and then their portfolio was evaluated. They were divided into eight nonequivalent groups whose members were all different in academic standing, and their learning strategies and academic self-efficacy were checked before and after the instruction was provided. And their satisfaction with the class was investigated after the instruction was provided. Results : 1. There were significant gaps to $0.36{\pm}0.07$ in the charge of learning strategies after they engaged in cooperative learning(p<0.01). There were the broadest differences in cognitive strategies to 3.61, followed by metacognitive strategies to 3.19, and significant differences were found in all the subfactors(p<0.01). 2. There were significant gaps in the charge of self-efficancy to $0.13{\pm}0.06$ after they engaged in cooperative learning(p<0.01). There were the widest differences in self-regulating efficancy to 3.49, followed by confidence to 3.03 and task difficulty preference to 2.97, and significant differences were found in all the subfactors(p<0.01). 3. When their satisfaction level was analyzed after engaging in cooperative learning, there were significant gaps to 3.94 in the satisfaction level with all of the lectures(p<0.01). There were significant gaps in the satisfaction level with lecture to 4.20, with ensuring academic achievement to 4.13 and with cooperative learning to 3.48 (p<0.01). Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings indicated that cooperative learning had a positive impact on the learning strategies, academic self-efficacy and class satisfaction of the learners, and this study is expected to lay the foundation for the development of new teaching methods for dental hygiene.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine about workers' oral health status and oral health behavior practice. Methods : Questionnaire survey was carried out targeting 331 workers within the industrial complex of Jeonju city in 2011. As a result of surveying and analyzing workers' oral health status, habit related to oral health, activity restriction, which is oral disease phase, and oral health practice level by using SPSSWIN 12.0. Results : 1. Workers' experience of visiting dental hospital(clinic) for the past one year was indicated to be the highest with 64.9% in the working period with 10 years-under 20 years(p<0.001). Experience of scaling was indicated to be averagely 38.8%. 2. The oral health status perceived by workers was the highest with 40.5% in 'having something abnormal'. A problem was the highest with 28.0% in 'dental caries'. A cause was indicated to be 42.6% in 'because of being naturally weak in tooth or the gum.' The biggest reason for having failed to receive the dental treatment at a proper time was indicated to be the highest with 24.8% in 'because of feeling burdensome about dental expense. '3. 58.4% of male workers were smoking. The use of dental hygiene device was the highest with 40.6% in mouth-rinse. 4. Absence caused by oral disease was indicated to be the highest with 13.8% in the household income in more than 3,500,000won, thereby having shown the significant difference(p<0.05). Early leaving was indicated to be the highest 13.9% in more than 50s age, thereby having shown the significant difference(p<0.05). Also, as for factors of absence and early leaving, a pain was the highest with 64.7%. 5. Workers' oral health practice level was the highest with 2.85 points in 'Brushing teeth before going to bed'. Conclusions : Synthesizing these findings, the oral management could be known to be made negligently in the workers with the older age, the lower academic background, and the lower income. The institutional foundation is considered to be necessary for which the oral health education can be efficiently performed in addition to a need of periodic oral examination for these classes.

Lowe syndrome is X-linked gene disorder, characterized by cataracts, renal dysfunction and brain abnormalities. Oral healthcare of young patients with Lowe syndrome could be easily neglected due to the uncooperative behavior or other systemic condition of the child. We are presenting a case of successful treatment under general anesthesia with uncooperative child with Lowe syndrome. A 3-year old boy with Lowe syndrome visited Seoul National University Dental Hospital for multiple caries. He had been suffering from congenital cataract, medullary nephrocalcinosis and hypotonia. Multiple caries were observed from clinical and radiographic examination. Concerning behavior management problem and possibility of aspiration due to hypotonia, dental treatment under general anesthesia was planned. Left upper primary first molar was extracted to prevent further infection. Other teeth were treated with Stainless steel crown or composite resin restoration based upon the extent and the severity of dental caries. Under general anesthesia, dental procedure was carried out successfully and safely. Considering uncooperative behavior and other medical conditions of the patient, general anesthesia could be effective. Home oral care and periodic visit to dental clinic should be emphasized to the caregiver of patient with Lowe syndrome, considering the susceptibility of dental caries and other oral manifestation.

The purpose of this study was to analyze outpatient referral patterns of children in Jeonbuk National University Dental Hospital. All patients under 16 years old who were consulted from the external facilities were reviewed based on the electronic medical record of Jeonbuk National University Dental Hospital from 2015 to 2018. Total 720 boys and 460 girls with an average age of 7.4 years were referred from local dental clinic (85.2%) for treatment severity (90.2%). 3.2% of patients has disability with the highest number of intellectual disabilities. The patients were usually referred at the pre-treatment stage with higher rates if they had disability or medical problem. Referral rate by chief complaints was highest in surgery, followed by reparative treatment and orthodontic treatment. 2nd referrals in pediatric dentistry had a higher rate of referrals to minor surgery and pulp treatment than of first referrals. The time point of 2nd referral was relatively delayed with increased ratio of 'during treatment'. These results suggest necessities of appropriate case selection and referral based reasonable criteria for pediatric dentist.

The autogenous free gingival graft is the most predictable procedure currently used to increase the width of the attached gingiva in periodontics. But the major disadvantage of the procedure is to create the multiple surgical wounds at both a donor site and a recipient site. The other problem is the limited amount of available graft material in oral cavity. Therefore, recent researches have been focused to develop the biomaterial to substitute the autogenous gingival tissue. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histologic healing after grafting of bilayer artificial dermis, compared to the free gingival graft. Four non-smoking subjects (mean age, 32.5 years) in systemically healthy state and good oral hygiene were selected according to their particular needs for correction of mucogingival problems as suggested by Nabers(1966). The recipient sites were prepared through the procedure for the free gingival graft and were grouped according to the graft materials: Experimental group(n=5) - bilayer artifcia1 dermis ($Terudermis^{(R)}$; Terumo Co. Japan) and Control group(n=6) - free gingival graft with autogenous palatal mucosa. Biopsies were harvested at 1,2,3 and 6 weeks postsurgery to evaluate histologically. At the third week in the experimental group and at the second week of in the control group, the grafts has been clinically stabilized on the recipient bed and the graft border has been blended into the surrounding tissue. In the experimental group after 1 week of grafting, the epithelial migration from the adjacent tissue to graft material was seen and after 3 weeks of grafting, the : nflmmation decreased, collagen layer of the artificial dermis was lost and the basement membrane of epithelium was formed. After 6 weeks of grafting, both groups demonstrated orthokeratinized epithelium and increased thickness of epithelial tissue and the rete peg formation, similar to the adjacent tissue, Histologic evaluation revealed a biologic acceptance and incorporation of the collagen layers of the graft tissue to the host tissue, without foreign body reaction. In conclusion, a bilayer artificial dermis is essentially similar to autogeneous free gingival graft in the correction of mucogingival problems, and has the advantages of decreased patient morbidity (no donor site) and availability of abundant amounts of graft material when needed.
