경로모형을 이용한 치과위생사의 이직의도 영향요인 (Influencing factors of turnover intention of dental hygienists using by the path analysis)

  • Objectives : The objective of this study is to investigate the influencing factors of turnover intention in dental hygienists and to find the management of manpower by path analysis. Methods : The influencing factors included working environment, external factors, and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 20.0. Results : Older and married persons were satisfied with their jobs. Turnover intention was higher in the single and more experienced persons. Job satisfaction and working environment factors were closely related with each other. Conclusions : Job satisfaction and working environment factors were closely related with each other. In order to reduce turnover intention, it is very important to enhance the work performance and self-esteem toward job in the dental hygienists.

치과위생사의 직무수행능력 평가도구 개발 (Development of job performance assessment tool for dental hygienists)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to develop a job performance assessment tool for dental hygienists. Methods : The development consisted of three steps. The first step was to construct the contents of the assessment tool and a pretest questionnaire. In the second step, validity and reliability tests were done and modified for the pretest questionnaires and an assessment tool was made. The third step was verification of the assessment tool. A total of 678 data from the dental hygienists were analyzed to verify the validity and reliability. The assessment tool consisted of two areas such as job performance and competency/attitude: the job performance area covered four sub-areas including oral health education, preventive dental care, assistance for dental treatment, and administrative management. Results : The number of questions and reliability test result for each sub-area were as follows. Reliability coefficient for oral health education (10 questions) was 0.899, preventive dental care (8 questions) was 0.861, assistance for dental treatment (18 questions) was 0.915, administrative management (8 questions) was 0.919, competency of dental hygienists (11 questions) was 0.947, and attitude of dental hygienists (15 questions) was 0.955. Cronbach ${\alpha}$ coefficient for reliability of total 70 questions of the assessment tool was 0.980. Conclusions : The validity of the assessment tool was verified by three steps and the reliability proved to be significant. Consequently the assessment tool was found to be useful as an objective and valid job performance assessment tool for the dental hygienists.

시럽 여부에 따른 커피 섭취 후 구취 수치의 차이 : 증례보고 (Difference of malodor according to intake of coffee with syrup or without syrup : Case report)

  • The coffee demand market in Korea is growing every year, and the adults drink an average of one cup of coffee every day. In order to investigate the effect of coffee on oral malodor, 15 Korean subjects were recruited. There were no significant differences in the values of oral malodor using BB checker(Taiyo, Japan) in the factors of sex, smoking, drinking, feeling oral malodor by themselves, feeling oral malodor by others, periodic scaling, activity of Streptococcus mutans, bleeding on probing, and coffee drinking habits. Patient hygiene performance index, calculus index, index of coat on the tongue, toothbrushing time, toothbrushing frequency had no correlation with oral malodor. The difference between before and after drinking coffee with syrup(17.93±16.54) was significant, but the difference between before and after drinking coffee without syrup(1.13±14.75) was not significant. We suggested the cause of oral malodor after drinking coffee was syrup, but not coffee.

치과위생사의 정보활용역량이 의사소통능력에 미치는 영향 : 잡크래프팅의 매개효과 (The effect of information literacy the communication ability of dental hygienist: mediating effect of job crafting)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to establish the basic data for the performance of patient-centered care, perception of core competencies, and self-development of dental hygienists by verifying the effects of information literacy on the communication ability of dental hygienists, and the mediating effects of job crafting. Methods: Collected and analyzed data by conducting a survey targeting total 222 dental hygienists working for dental hospitals/clinics located in Seoul and Gyeonggi region. Verify the mediating effects of job crafting on the effects of information literacy on the communication ability, this study conducted the correlation analysis and simple regression analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results: In the effects of information literacy on the communication ability of dental hygienists, the cognitive crafting of job crafting (β=0.209, p<0.001) and relational crafting of job crafting (β=0.318, p<0.001) showed the partially mediating effects. Conclusions: In order to increase the educational accessibility for dental hygienists to perceive the importance of information literacy and communication ability, to improve the expertise as healthcare personnel who perform the patient-centered care by developing it, and also to develop the information literacy and job crafting, it would be necessary to develop various educational programs and contents.

치과위생사의 회복탄력성과 조직몰입과의 관계 (Relationship of resilience and organizational commitment in dental hygienists)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the resilience and organizational commitment of dental hygienists for the improvement of organizational performance. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 323 dental hygienists from May 2 to June 5, 2014. The collected data were analyzed by a statistical package SPSS WIN 12.0. Results : The dental hygienists had the highest score in relationship(4.09), and had the lowest score in communicative competence(3.29). In organizational commitment, they had the highest score in affective commitment(3.20). There were statistically significant differences in that regard according to age(p<0.001), marital status(p<0.05) and career(p<0.001). The organizational commitment varied significantly with age(p<0.05) and career(p<0.01), and normative commitment significantly varied with the number of work days(p<0.05) and career(p<0.05). There was a significant correlation between the resilience and organizational commitment of the dental hygienists(p<0.001). Conclusions : The organizational commitment of the dental hygienists was better when they had a better resilience, and that resilience made a contribution to the improvement of organizational commitment in the clinical dental hygienists.

치위생(학)과 학생들의 치위생윤리 교과목을 통한 치위생 윤리적 의사결정에 대한 자신감과 학습성과 평가 (Evaluation of the Confidence and Learning Effects of Dental Hygiene Ethical Decision-Making through Dental Hygiene Ethics Subjects)

  • 연구배경: 본 연구는 일부 대학에서 진행한 치위생 윤리 교과목을 통해 치위생(학)과 학생의 윤리적 의식과 윤리적 의사결정 역량을 달성할 수 있을지에 대한 학습성과를 평가하였다. 연구방법: 2021학년도와 2022학년도 1학기 G대학교 치위생학과 4학년 각각 35명, 29명과 D대학교 치위생과 3학년 각각 53명, 43명 총 160명을 대상으로 치위생윤리 교과목을 운영하여 수업운영 성과를 도덕적 민감성, 윤리적 의사결정을 할 때 자신감, 수업의 실제성, 학습성과, 수업만족도로 평가하였다. 각 평가항목은 Independent T-test와 Paired T-test를 하였으며, 통계적 유의수준은 0.05로 하였다. 연구결과: 양 대학 모두 수업 후 도덕적 민감성, 윤리적 의사결정을 할 때 자신감이 상승하였다(p<0.001). 치위생 윤리 교과목에 대한 수업의 실제성과 수업만족도는 학제 간 차이가 없었으며 4점 이상으로 긍정적으로 평가되었다(p>0.05). 학습성과는 4년제 학생들이 3년제 학생들보다 더 높게 나타났다(p<0.001). 결론: 치위생윤리 교과목을 통해 학생들의 도덕적 민감성과 치위생 윤리적 문제해결에 대한 자신감 등 윤리적 의사결정에 대한 역량을 강화할 수 있다고 평가되었다.

A Study on Occupational Stress and Coping, Turnover, Knowledge and Practice of Infection Control in Dental Hygienists of COVID-19

  • Background: The importance of infection with COVID-19 is being emphasized in dentistry with high risks such as aerosols. The purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge and practice of infection control, stress and coping, and turnover of dental hygienists. Methods: Questionnaire was conducted knowledge and practice of infection control, occupational stress and coping, turnover. Survey data was investigated about 149 dental hygienists from February to March 2021 Data were analyzed t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation using statistical programs of PASW Statistics ver. 21.0. Results: Regarding occupational stress, relationship conflict was higher in the group with less than 2 years of experience (p<0.05). Job anxiety, organizational system, inadequate compensation, and workplace culture were highly surveyed in the 3 to 5 year of experience. The group with more than 6 years of experience had the highest perception of lack of job autonomy (p<0.05). The group with higher knowledge of infection control had lower mean inappropriate rewards and stress (p<0.05). The group with high infection control performance had a lower average in items such as job instability, organizational system, inadequate compensation, workplace culture, and stress. And problem-focused coping ability was found to be high (p<0.05). Infection control knowledge and performance were positively correlated (r=0.251, p<0.01), infection control practice and stress were negatively correlated (r=-0.264, p<0.01), and stress and emotional coping were positively correlated (r=0.367, p<0.01). Stress was positively correlated with turnover rate (r=0.549, p<0.01). Conclusion: Infection control training was required to reduce occupational stress. Occupational stress was highly correlated with turnover, a holistic and systemic organizational operation and improvement of the quality of medical care were required to reduce stress.

치위생과 학생의 비판적 사고성향과 문제해결능력에 관한 연구 (A study on the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities of dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the correlation between critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in dental hygiene students. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 386 dental hygiene students enrolled in Gwangju Health university from August 30, 2017 to September 2, 2017. The general characteristics of the subjects, their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities were measured for the study. The tool to measure critical thinking was adapted from Yoon which had a Cronbach' alpha of 0.77. The tool for problem-solving ability was adapted from that used in Heppner & Petersen, which had a Cronbach' alpha of 0.77. The collected data are analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation analysis, and multiple regression using SPSS/Win 18.0 program. Results: The results show that critical thinking scored 3.45 while problem solving ability scored 3.20. The correlation between critical thinking and problem-solving abilities was found to be strong. The strongest positive correlation in problem-solving ability was critical thinking (p<0.001). The multiple regression analysis suggests that the factors affecting problem solving ability of the subjects was statistically significant. The significant variables included critical thinking (${\beta}=0.440$) (p<0.001), satisfaction with one's major (${\beta}=0.108$) (p<0.05), interpersonal relationships (${\beta}=0.104$) (p<0.05) and academic performance (${\beta}=0.086$) (p<0.05) with an explanatory power of 38.3%. Conclusions: It is necessary to develop a curriculum and learning method for critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in the dental hygiene students.

치위생과 학생의 손 씻기에 대한 지식, 태도, 수행도 (Knowledge, Attitude, Performance on the Hand Washing by Dental Hygiene Students)

  • 본 연구는 치위생과 학생들의 손 씻기에 대한 지식도, 태도, 수행도를 분석하고자 2014년 9월 5일부터 11월 20일까지 K대학과 H대학의 치위생과에 재학 중인 학생 288명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 일반적인 특성에 따른 손 씻기 지식도를 보면 학년에서는 3학년 4.72점으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 스켈링 실습을 이수한 경우에 손 씻기 교육을 많이 받을수록 지식도가 높게 나타났고 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 일반적인 특성에 따른 손 씻기 수행도에서 손 씻기 교육 후 인식의 변화 '있다'가 4.17점으로 '없다' 4.03점보다 높게 나타났으며 유의한 차이를 나타냈다(p<0.05). 손 씻기에 대한 지식도, 태도, 수행도의 상관관계는 태도(r=-0.020)와 음의 상관관계를 보였고(p>0.05), 수행도(r=0.161, p<0.05)는 양의 상관관계를 나타냈으며 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냈다. 이상의 결론으로 치위생과 학생들의 올바른 손 씻기에 영향을 미치는 정기적인 손 씻기 교육프로그램을 개발하여 적용한다면 손 씻기에 대한 지식도, 태도, 수행도를 증진시키는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

Possibility of a Standardized System for Task-Related Hierarchal Positions of Dental Hygienists

  • Background: Despite the demand for greater competence of dental hygienists in recent times, and the consequent standardization of systems in the organizations, there is a lack of a proper system for hierarchal positions of dental hygienists. The aim of this study was to identify the tasks performed by Korean dental hygienists in various work settings and hierarchal positions to suggest a standardized system for task-related hierarchal positions. Methods: A survey was conducted by sending questionnaires to 966 dental hygienists, and responses from 757 participants were included in the final analysis. The survey comprised questions regarding participants' general characteristics, tasks, current positions, and the internal policies or standards of the respective organizations to define these positions. The participants' positions were analyzed as frequency and cross-sectional analysis with respect to their general characteristics, their place in the organizational charts, the size of their workplaces, and differences in the tasks performed. Results: Data showed that 82.6% of the hospitals and clinics in Korea have organizational systems to determine the positions, and there was a significant difference in the systems according to the size of the health facility (p<0.05). The standards or policies used to define positions within general or university hospitals were determined by internal regulations or bylaws, whereas work experience was the major determinant of positions in smaller dental hospitals or clinics. The main tasks performed by dental hygienists in Korea were dental assistance (81.2%), routine dental hygiene tasks (53.4%), and administrative tasks, such as reception and billing (46.1%). Conclusion: Most dental hygienists in Korea are actively involved in dental assistance. Therefore, their specific tasks and responsibilities should be standardized more effectively. The data obtained from this study can be used to establish a standardized position system.
