The job of dental hygienists is specialized, and they have to be capable of performing their primary duties including prevention of oral diseases, oral prophylaxis, and oral health education. To ensure their successful job performance, dentists should have an accurate understanding of their duties and need a change of mind-set about them. And there should be written legal and concrete regulations on the coverage of their work in order to let them boost their job performance with pride and a sense of responsibility. The purpose of this study was to examine the actual roles and job performance of dental hygienists in clinical field in an attempt to discuss the substantial job performance of dental hygienists and their job enlargement. It's basically meant to help enhance the efficiency and quality of medical services. The subjects in this study were 471 dental hygienists in dental clinics, dental hospitals, university hospitals and general hospitals across the nation, on whom a survey was conducted in person from March 2 to 25, 2005. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS Win 12.0 program, and the findings of the study were as follows: 1. The major jobs they currently performed included oral health education, hospital management, simple duties, extensive dental hygiene duties and joint treatment assistance. They hoped to continue to be responsible for oral health education, preventive treatment and extensive dental hygiene duties. 2. As for their current job by age, extensive dental hygiene duties, preventive treatment, joint treatment assistance, preserving treatment, prosthetic treatment and pediatric treatment were most conducted by the dental hygienists who were at the age of 26 to less than 31, and those who were at the age of 31 and up were most responsible for hospital management and simple duties. 3. As to job awareness by workplace, their workload was statistically significantly different according to their workplace. The hospital employees took care of more work than those in clinics. 4. Concerning job awareness by age, the younger dental hygienists suffered more role conflicts and were given a less free hand in work handling, the middle-aged group's job was uncertain. Legal regulations about the coverage of their work should be prepared in detail as a measure to stir up their responsible job performance and pride. In order to take advantage of experienced dental hygienists, their duties should be more differentiated and specialized, and their working conditions should be improved to boost their job satisfaction. That is, they should be given ample chances for promotion and serving as a middle manager and be given fair treatment according to their career. If their work is accurately darified and specialized based on career, it will boost the efficiency of dental treatment. Dental hygienists also should direct sustained efforts into self-development in order to become a skilled and professional oral health personnel.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to understand the effect of positive psychological capital on job satisfaction and job performance for dental hygienists. Methods: A survey was conducted from August to October 2020 among dental hygienists from a dental clinic in Busan, South Korea, and a total of 162 valid responses were analyzed. The statistical tool used for analysis was SPSS 25.0 (IBM Crop, Armonk, USA) and the significance level was 0.05. Results: The results of this study showed the relationships between job satisfaction with positive psychological capital (r=0.85, p<0.01), as well as job performance with positive psychological capital (r=0.88, p<0.01). There was a positive correlation between positive psychological capital and job satisfaction (r=0.85, p<0.01); and the contributing factors for the same were hope (p<0.05) and optimism (p<0.001). Further, positive psychological capital and job performance were positively correlated (r=0.88, p<0.01); the influencing factors for the same were hope (p<0.01), dynamic stability (p<0.05), and optimism (p<0.001). Conclusions: It is necessary to develop various intervention programs and strategies to strengthen the positive psychological capital in dental hygienists since it affects their job satisfaction and job performance.
Objectives: This study was conducted to provide basic data for developing a professionalism improvement program for dental hygienists in preparation for the 4th industrial revolution era. Methods: A survey was conducted in 216 dental hygienists from May 3 to June 14, 2021, and statistical processing was performed using frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Communication competence were at higher levels for dental hospital workers (3.98) and university/graduate school (3.94); professionalism was at higher levels for dental hospital workers (3.64), university/graduate school (3.55), and 7 or more dental hygienists at workplace (3.53); self leadership was at higher levels for dental hospital workers (4.11), university/graduate school (4.04), and intermediary manager (4.00); job performance was at higher levels for 11 years or more (4.08), university/graduate school (4.04), intermediary manager (4.04), and 30-34 years of age (4.04). There was positive correlation among communication competence, professionalism, self-leadership, and job performance. Factors affecting job performance were self-leadership (β=0.461), communication competence (β=0.353), 30-34 years of age (β=0.141), and total experience of 8-10 years (β=-0.149). Conclusions: In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, it is necessary to develop a program to strengthen the professional competence of dental hygienists.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual condition of bullying in the workplace by dental hygienists and to determine whether workplace bullying affects job performance. Methods: Data were collected from 308 clinical dental hygienists working in dental medical institutions located in the whole country. Frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA were performed using SPSS 23.0 for analysis. Results: First, the main targets of bullying in the workplace were senior dental hygienists (53.6%) and dentists (24.7%). Second, the number of turnovers was a significant influence on bullying and job performance according to general characteristics. Finally, the 'improper work environment' among the subfactors of workplace bullying had a negative effect on 'job performance' (p<0.001). Conclusions: Based on the results of the study, we reviewed the actual condition of bullying in the workplace and whether bullying in the workplace affects job performance in the workforce problem of dental hygienists. In this regard, the importance of prevention of bullying in the workplace was discussed.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to provide basic materials for defining educational direction of dental hygiene department and establishing the instruction to improve direction consulting and academic effect of dental hygiene department student. Methods : The researcher surveyed the relation among job aptitude, academic ability and academic performance by selecting 131 dental hygiene department students of P university as study targets. Results : For high school classifications, direction searches and academic abilities of dental hygiene department students of P university, it was found that classical high school was 68.7% and vocational high school was 31.3%. For job aptitude, social type was 58.0% and artistic type was 26.0% so they were usual. For academic ability, interpersonal relation($12.78{\pm}1.34$), music/rhythm was($12.32{\pm}1.09$) and natural($12.32{\pm}1.00$) showed high scores in order over the first, the second and the third field and language/vocabulary(22.6%) and music/rhythm(21.6%) was the next. For academic performance depending on high school classification, job aptitude and academic ability, there was a significant difference in high school classification by classical high school($86.55{\pm}8.21$) and vocational high school($85.34{\pm}11.31$)(p<0.05) and there was also a significant difference in job aptitude by social type($85.45{\pm}9.42$) and artistic type($88.41{\pm}6.93$)(p<0.05). In the mutual relation between academic ability and academic performance, the high academic ability score in the first field was led to the high score in the second and the third field, showing significant mutual relation(p<0.00). Conclusions : This research has been accomplished by college students of dental hygeine department, so you have to consider before generalizing these results. Therefore it is required to research more, likewise using a comparison with other students or it should be conducted by general people.
Background: As the medical knowledge base grows at an accelerating rate, evidence-based clinical performance becomes increasingly important for providing quality care. Previous studies have highlighted the need to promote job crafting to actualize evidence-based practical skills in the medical field. This study aimed to investigate the degree of evidence-based practice among dental hygienists and assess the impact of job crafting on the evidence-based practical skills of dental hygienists. Methods: Dental hygienists working at dental hospitals and clinics in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were surveyed between February 28 and April 6, 2023. The sample was comprised of 267 participants. The hypotheses were tested independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analyses using SPSS 29.0. Results: The degree of job crafting by dental hygienists demonstrated significant differences based on educational attainment, workplace size, and workplace type. Evidence-based practical skills exhibited significant variations based on educational attainment and job position. All job crafting subfactors demonstrated positive correlations with evidence-based practical skills. The job crafting subfactors affecting the evidence-based practical skills of dental hygienists were 'increasing structural job resources' and 'increasing challenging job demands,' which together explained 38.7% of the variance in evidence-based practical skills. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that job crafting was positively and significantly correlated with evidence-based practical skills. To strengthen the job crafting ability of dental hygienists, improving environmental conditions and fostering an organizational culture that motivates continued participation in education is necessary. The development and promotion of programs that enable learning of the latest evidence should be actively pursued. Additionally, regular attendance at workshops and participation in organizational evidence-based practice education programs are necessary.
This study had collected 171 dental hygienists working in Busan and Ulsan, in order to investigate coaching behavior, job satisfaction and job performance of dental hygienists and find relationship between these. A survey was conducted from July 10 through August 20, 2012, by using structured, self-administered questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The mean of dental manager's coaching behavior was 3.35 out of 5. In terms of sub-domain, accountability(3.36) is the highest, followed by relationship(3.32), and development(3.20). 2. In multiple regression analysis, development factor is most influential factor of job satisfaction, followed by relationship, accountability. 3. The job performance was under the greatest influence of the patient relationship, followed by freedom factor.

Background: The problem with current dental hygienist education is that it operates as an education system based on the national examination rather than on a practical basis; thus, graduates have difficulties in practice after obtaining their license. This study aimed to propose a job-oriented curriculum by analyzing the links between the task analysis of Korean dental hygienists and dental hygiene learning goals. Methods: This study performed a relationship analysis based on a second job analysis study of dental hygienists conducted by the Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute and the learning goals of the Korean Dental Hygiene Faculty Association. Results: Based on the links between the task and learning goals of the dental hygienist, they were classified into six types: 1) tasks listed in the license exam and learning goal, 2) tasks not listed in the license exam but listed in learning goals, 3) tasks not listed in learning goals, 4) learning goals not related to tasks, 5) learning goals listed in a few tasks, and 6) tasks related to several learning goals. The results showed that most of them correspond to the 5th classification, followed by the 3rd and 4th categories, which are mostly basic science learning goals. Tasks without learning goals are not included in the curriculum; thus, the curriculum needs to be supplemented. The overlapping learning goals of several subjects for one job skill must be reduced in job-oriented education. Conclusion: We suggest that the dental hygiene curriculum be developed based on task analysis and reflected in the national dental hygienist exam. The clinical practice performance of dental hygienists will take further leap forward through task-oriented education.
Background: This study examines the relationship between the emotional labor and compassion competence of clinical dental hygienists. It attempted to provide basic data to establish a plan to increase the dental hygiene performance of clinical dental hygienists in the future by identifying the factors influencing the dental hygiene work performance. Methods: This study is aimed at clinical dental hygienists working at the Jeollabuk-do Dental Clinic from April to June 2020 by the Convenience Sampling Method. An online survey site program was used to explain the purpose and purpose of the study on social media including the dental hygienist community, and distribute a URL that allows you to participate in the survey only if you agree to the study. Results: In emotional labor, there was a significant difference in job satisfaction and marital status, and in compassion competence, there were significant differences in job satisfaction, final education, and marital status by group. In dental hygiene work performance, compassion competency showed a statistically significant positive correlation. In other words, it was found that the higher the compassion competence, the higher the dental hygiene work performance. It was found that the total number of years worked and the compassion competence that influenced dental hygiene work performance were statistically significant. Conclusion: In summary, in order to improve the dental hygiene work performance of clinical dental hygienists, it is necessary to compassion competence with the subject. To this end, it is believed that various supports, measures, and systematic management should be implemented to compassion competence of clinical dental hygienists.

This study aims to identify the impact of organizational culture on the work ability of dental hygienists and to analyze the factors that affect dental hygiene work ability. The survey was conducted from August 1 to August 30, 2022, and involved 193 dental hygienists from U and D cities. The data analysis method was conducted using the SPSS 18.0 software. The analysis revealed that age, work experience, and position were the demographic and sociological characteristics with statistically significant differences in dental hygiene work ability. Relationship-oriented culture (β=0.446), career (β=-0.439), age (β=0.358), position (β=0.280), and work-oriented culture (β=0.167) were the most influential factors in dental hygiene work performance. Therefore, it is necessary to work for an extended period to enhance dental hygiene work capabilities and to cultivate a culture focused on relationships.
