심폐소생술 교육이 치위생과 학생들에게 미치는 교육적 효과 (Educational effect of CPR training in department of dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by fifty dental hygiene students in May 2016 before and after CPR education. The questionnaire consisted of knowledge, attitude, confidence, and performance of CPR skill. Performance test by professionals was measured to evaluate capability of skill after CPR education. Results: Scores of the knowledge increased from 4.35 to 12.24 after education (p<0.001). Scores of attitude increased from 51.86 to 58.92 (p<0.001). Scores of confidence changed from 56.66 to 85.02 (p<0.001). Scores of self-capability of skill increased from 44.90 to 74.02 (p<0.001). 5. The average score of capability of skill by professional test was 24.47. Conclusions: CPR education improved the knowledge, attitude, confidence and capability of skill in dental hygiene students. The development and education of CPR program will make the students perform bystander CPR in the emergency situation actively.

치위생과 및 치기공과 학생의 DISC 행동유형이 전공만족도 및 직업선호도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness (DISC) personality type on the major satisfactions and job preferences of dental hygiene and dental technology students)

  • Background: This study was aimed at determining the relationship of the Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness (DISC) personality type with the major satisfactions and job preferences of dental hygiene and technician students. Methods: We enrolled 264 dental hygiene and technician students from a junior college in Chungcheong-do. A questionnaire survey was conducted to determine the DISC behavior type, major satisfaction level, and job preference of the participants. Statistical analyses were performed with the independent-samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and multiple regression. Results: Dental technician students had higher major satisfaction (p< .001) and preferred jobs with potential for growth (p= .020) or matching their vocation and interests (p= .013) compared to dental hygiene students. Factors influencing major satisfaction were grade (β= .160, p= .008) and a social personality type (β= .146, p= .070). Factors influencing preference for jobs with high growth potential were the personality type (β= .236, p= .001), grades (β= .157, p= .002), and major satisfaction (β= .429, p< .001). The conscientiousness personality type was conducive to preferencefor jobs with high growth potential. The steadiness personality type was conducive to preference for jobs aligned with vocation and interest (β= .249, p= .004). The conscientiousness personality type (β= .137, p= .041) and high major satisfaction (β= .193, p= .003) were conducive to preference for jobs with a satisfactory working environment. Conclusion: The results of this study could serve as a basis for customized career counseling and education programs according to personality types.

Effect of Toothbrushing Application for Kids on Dental Plaque Removal and Interest in Toothbrushing of Preschool Children

  • Background: Dental caries in preschool children can cause early loss of teeth, reduced masticatory function, malocclusion, and speech disorders, making oral care for preschool children essential. However, because children have a poor ability to perform oral hygiene by themselves, educational tools that help establish correct oral health behaviors are required. This study evaluated the effect of toothbrushing application for kids on dental plaque removal and toothbrushing interest in preschool children. Methods: Seven 5-year-old children enrolled in a daycare center participated in the evaluation, and the same children participated in the experiment twice a week. The Pokémon Smile application (App) was used as an auxiliary application for tooth brushing, and the degree of dental plaque removal on the tooth surface was evaluated by quantitative light-induced fluorescence-digital imaging. After the experiment, children's toothbrushing preferences were investigated through interviews. Results: The levels of AREA R30 and AREA R70 measured after the children's toothbrushing as usual decreased compared to those before toothbrushing; however, the change was not significant. The levels of AREA R30 and AREA R70 measured after using the Pokémon Smile App were significantly reduced compared to those before toothbrushing. Children's interest in brushing their teeth increased by 28.59% after using the Pokémon Smile App. Conclusion: The toothbrushing application for kids effectively removes dental plaque by helping preschool children brush their teeth. It also increased preschool children's interest in tooth brushing. Therefore, an oral health education application would be useful for children who need to develop correct oral care methods and habits.

치위생과 학생들의 스트레스와 자아 존중감에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Influential factors for stress and self esteem of dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of stress, self-esteem, and social support in dental hygiene students. Methods : The data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 518 students in three colleges in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, and Jeollabuk-do. Korea. The questionnaire consisted of stress, self-esteem and social support. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results : The mean(${\pm}SD$) scores of stress, self-esteem and social support were 3.13(0.52), 3.31(0.55), and 3.66(0.48), respectively. A significantly negative correlations was shown in self-esteem(r=-0.360, p<0.001) as well as social support(r=-0.138, p<0.05) in relation to stress. Conclusions : It is necessary to develop and apply nursing intervention to promote self-esteem, social support, and to reduce stress in dental hygiene students.

치위생과 학생이 지각한 가족지지와 임상실습 만족도와의 관계연구 (A study on the relationship between perceived family support and satisfaction of clinical practice by dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the degree of family support and the degree of satisfaction in clinical practice by dental hygiene students. Methods : In this study, convenience sampling was conducted in 272 dental hygiene students from 3 dental hygiene colleges in South Jeolla Province, from October 4 through 15, 2010. A survey was conducted by using structured questionnaires. The data was analyzed by t-test, a one way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results : Family support according to general characteristics showed a significant difference by economic status(p<0.001), satisfaction of major(p<0.01), and interpersonal relationship(p<0.05). Satisfaction degree on clinical practice according to general characteristics showed a significant difference by satisfaction of major(p<0.05) and interpersonal relationship(p<0.05). The relationship between generally perceived family support correlated with the degree of satisfaction in clinical practice(r=.154, p<0.05). Conclusions : It was found that a higher degree of satisfaction in clinical practice depends on a higher degree of family support. Therefore it is required to program development to improve satisfaction level of clinical practice by family support.

치위생(학)과 학생이 임상실습과정에서 경험하는 무례함과 전공만족도의 연관성 (Relationship between incivility through clinical experience and major satisfaction in dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the level and relationship of incivility through clinical experience and major satisfaction in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 357 dental hygiene students in six universities from November 1 to December 1, 2015. The questionnaire by five point Likert scale consisted of general characteristics of the subjects (6 items), incivility (20 items), and major satisfaction (6 items). Incivility was divided into three factors of staff, doctors, and patients & visitors. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics of variables, multiple response cross analysis, independent t-test, one way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis. Results: The mean of incivility and major satisfaction was 2.23 and 3.29, respectively. The incivility of staff, doctors, and patients & visitors showed negative correlations with major satisfaction. Conclusions: The incivility through clinical experience is associated with major satisfaction negative. These results suggest that we need to develop remedy such as positive attitude dealing with incivility and implementing similar environment education during clinical training at school and dealing with stress.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore and analyze experiences with home-visiting oral health education in vulnerable populations and to provide foundational data necessary for the development of preventive strategies for oral health promotion among these patients. Methods: Using a phenomenological research, in-depth interviews were conducted between August 29 and October 31, 2023 with 20 vulnerable individuals participating in the Home Visit Oral Health Education Program under the Gwangju+ Gwangsan Integrated Care Service project spearheaded by the Gwangju Medical Welfare Cooperative. Results: After analyzing the contents of the participants' experiences, 130 meaningful words and 14 subcategories were identified and categorized into five major themes. Participants expressed discomfort when chewing or swallowing food and felt burdened by visits to the dentist. Although they experienced considerable loneliness because they spent a significant amount of time alone, they enjoyed communicating through visitation care and expressed gratitude for receiving oral health education. Conclusions: Oral health education through home visits cam increase awareness of oral health management among vulnerable populations and serve as an important means of improving their quality of life.

성인의 치과건강보험 인식과 영향 요인 연구 (Factors influencing awareness of dental health insurance among adults)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to identify methods that help medical consumers to be aware of relevant information regarding changes in dental health insurance policy. Methods: The following results were obtained from a survey regarding awareness and satisfaction with dental health insurance policy among the general public aged 20 years or older in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and other areas from August 1, 2017 to August 23, 2017. Results: The correlation between adults' awareness of and satisfaction with dental health insurance was 0.471, where satisfaction with dental health insurance was enhanced with increasing awareness of dental health insurance (p<0.001). Factors that significantly affected awareness of dental health insurance were marriage (married p<0.05), medical service (dental university hospital, p<0.01), and satisfaction with dental health insurance (p<0.001); these factors explained 29.2% of the variance. Factors that significantly affected satisfaction with dental health insurance were final education (high school graduation, p<0.05), medical service (dental hospital, p<0.05), and awareness of dental health insurance (p<0.001); these factors explained 27.8% of the variance. Conclusions: Importantly, awareness of the government's operation of dental health insurance and the benefits of such dental health insurance were low, suggesting that the government and national health insurance agency should improve the level of transparency in dental health insurance operations and continuously promote dental health insurance benefits to the public.

교정치료가 사회생활과 자아 존중감에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A study on the effects of orthodontic treatment on the patient's social life and self esteem)

  • Objectives: A study investigated the effect that a dental orthodontics treatment has on the social life and self-worth perceived by the patient. The study was conducted to collect information on patients worried about dental orthodontics in later life. Methods: A survey was conducted on patients with dental orthodontics living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, from December, 2016. Of the collected 200 aquatic samples, 182 were used for the analysis, corresponding to 91% of the collected data, while excluding 18 insufficient responses. Results: The difference in self-worth and perceived social life before and after dental orthodontic treatment were investigated. Self-worth increased by 0.53 points after dental orthodontics treatment. Perceived social life increased by 0.81 points after dental orthodontics treatment. Conclusions: The relationship between self-worth and perceived social life after dental orthodontics treatment was found to be closely correlated. The study provides information on people hoping for treatment in accordance with the insurance benefits that should be offered.
