This study aimed to investigate recognition of dental scaling and recognition of and satisfaction with health insurance coverage of dental scaling and make an efficient healthcare policy for dental health insurance; to do this, a survey was conducted in 389 residents in North Jeolla Province, drawing the following conclusion: First, the respondents were most likely to suggest that it was desirable to get dental scaling 'twice a year' and to start it 'in their twenties'. Second, those who were female and who were more concerned about periodontal health were more likely to recognize coverage of dental scaling. Third, those who were female and who were more concerned about periodontal health were also more satisfied with the coverage. It is therefore necessary to make PRs by using teaching media positively as well as by giving correct information with the objective of improving recognition of dental scaling on a continuous basis.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the recognition and satisfaction of dental care customers after 1 year national health insurance coverage of dental scaling. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 477 dental care customers in Gyeongbuk, Busan, Yangsan, and Gyeonggido from July 18 to September 30, 2014 after receiving informed consents. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(5 items), subjective awareness of oral health(4 items), recognition of scaling(5 items), and recognition and satisfaction of scaling health insurance(5 items). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 program. Results: Those who recognized the national health insurance coverage of dental scaling accounted for 80.1 percent and 47.2 percent of them got the health insurance coverage via media advertisements. Those who received the scaling service by health insurance coverage accounted for 73.8% and 66.2% of them were very satisfied with the service. Among the customers, 91.8% were satisfied with scaling health allotment. There was a statistical significance between scaling health insurance and subjective oral condition recognition(p<0.01). Through the health insurance coverage scaling service, the oral health in Korea will improve much. Conclusions: The expansion of health insurance coverage of scaling service will provide the universal oral health care for all people. Owing to low cost service, people will actively try to come in contact with public health service in the future.

This study investigated factors affecting care for elderly patients, management of systemic disease, infection management, improvement of medical care quality, and educational requirements, and provide basic data for quality care for elderly patients with systemic diseases. An online survey was conducted among dental hygienists working at dental institutions and data of 172 individuals were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Descriptive statistics was performed for general characteristics. For factor analysis by general characteristics, t-test and ANOVA were performed. For differences between groups Scheffe verification was performed. A correlation analysis between factors was performed using Pearson's correlation analysis, and a factor analysis affecting the improvement of healthcare quality was performed using multiple linear regression analysis. Care for elderly patients was 52.33/75, management of systemic disease was 12.65/17, and infection management was 96.92/130. Improvement of medical quality (institutional effort) was 22.87/35, and improvement of medical quality (personal effort) was 22.72/35. The most common educational needs were "necessary". Analysis revealed a positive correlation between factors.. Factors affecting improvement of medical quality (personal effort) were age, final academic background, place of work, and the presence or absence of annual medical examinations. The findings of this study indicate that there is a significant correlation between factors. For the qualitative care of elderly patients, education programs related to elderly characteristics, systemic diseases, and infection management should be actively conducted by dental hygienists, and interest and research on geriatric dental hygiene is needed, centering on associations and educational institutions.
Objectives : This study was to investigate the level of emotional labor and stress on job satisfaction and the significant factors influencing job satisfaction in oral health professional. Methods : Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 297 oral health professional(mean age=$29.95{\pm}8.10$). Participants in the study were recruited when they attended the dental health form in Gwangju. Emotional labor was classified into two factors: external, inner. Stress consisted of four factors: sleep disorder&anxiety, self-confidence, health&vital, social role work. job satisfaction included growth development, stability chase. The data was analysed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression. Results : The mean score of emotional labor and score was 3.13 out of a maximum 7 points. job satisfaction was negatively correlated with emotional labor and stress. job satisfaction explained 32.0%. Conclusions : Based on the findings, The emotional labor and stress was correlated with job satisfaction. These results suggest that further development should be continued to develop the effective emotional labor and stress to improve the job satisfaction of oral healthcare professional.
This study purported to evaluate the performance of the appointment system for outpatients in primary care dental clinic. The data of patients' time flow for 1,245 patients in Y Dental Clinic were collected for one month in 2002 and then analyzed. Specifically, the time periods of treatment and patients' waiting as well as rates of appointment and it's failure are estimated. The accuracy of expected treatment time period was also evaluated. The results showed that 72% of patients visited the clinic with appointments, and only 56% kept their appointments. The patient's waiting time period turned out to be 11 minutes in Y clinic. The expected treatment time period is turned out to be very important because they influence significantly on patient's waiting time period. Practically, the expected treatment time period should be overestimated about 9 minutes in general, and the characteristics of dentist, each patient's diagnosis and age need to be especially considered. Hospitals and clinics also need to make the systematic and detailed critical pathways for a variety of patient cases by analyzing the patients' treatment pattern. With the improved appointment systems, healthcare institutions will approach the goal of effective and efficient management of the institution and also satisfy their customers.
Background: The present study aimed to determine whether laypeople and professionals rate the facial appearance of individuals with repaired complete unilateral or bilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP, BCLP) similarly based on viewing full facial images. Methods: The study followed a cross-sectional analytical design where five young patients aged 10 to 14 years, who had completed all stages of their unilateral or bilateral cleft lip and palate treatment (bilateral: three, unilateral: two), were evaluated by two groups. The assessment was done by laypeople and 97 qualified professionals (33 orthodontists, 32 plastic surgeons, and 32 oral and maxillofacial surgeons). Professionals were not involved in any stage of the patients' treatment. Results: The facial appearance assessment of the professional groups on different facial aesthetics was significantly lower than that of laypeople, and they had higher perceived need for further treatment. On the other hand, laypeople had higher aesthetic ratings and lower perceived need for further treatment. Differences were also observed between the assessments of the professional groups. Participants who had lower aesthetic assessments of the repair tended to report a higher influence of cleft lip and palate on social activities and professional life. Conclusion: Differences in perception exist between healthcare professionals and laypeople. The discrepancies between the professional groups could be attributed to different treatment modalities and protocols.

Purpose: Once the decision has been made to adopt an integrated medical information system (IMIS), there are a number of issues to overcome. Users need to be aware of the impact the change will make on end users and be prepared to address issues that arise before they become problems. The purpose of this study is to investigate the benefits and unexpected problems encountered in the implementation of IMIS and to determine a useful framework for IMIS. Materials and Methods: The Yonsei University Dental Hospital is steadily constructing an IMIS. The vendor's PACS software, Piview STAR, supports transactions between workstations that are approved to integrating the healthcare enterprise (IHE) with security function. It is necessary to develop an excellent framework that is good for the patient, healthcare provider and information system vendors, in an expert, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Results : The problems encountered with IMIS implementation were high initial investments, delay of EMR enforcement, underdevelopment of digital radiographic appliances and software and insufficient educational training for users. Conclusions: The clinical environments of dental IMIS is some different from the medical situation. The best way to overcome these differences is to establish a gold standard of dental IMIS integration, which estimates the cost payback. The IHE and its technical framework are good for the patient, the health care provider and all information systems vendors.
Objectives : This study was conducted during the period from August 30 to September 9, 2011 in order to survey difference in the general perception of medical market opening and factors related to the choice of foreign hospitals among dental hygiene and nursing students at universities in Seoul. Methods : For this purpose, 438 students were surveyed using a questionnaire and collected data were analyzed using SPSSWIN 18.0. Conclusions drawn from this study are as follows. Results : 1. With regard to dental hygiene and nursing students' perception of medical market opening according to general characteristics, significant difference was not observed according to gender, experience in working at a hospital, medical institution used, and the frequency of using medical institutions, but significant difference was observed according to department, and interest in healthcare-related news. 2. There was significant difference in dental hygiene and nursing students'pro/con attitude toward medical market opening, but not in gender, experience in working at a hospital, medical institution used, and the frequency of using medical institutions. 3. With regard to intention to visit and revisit foreign hospitals, there was significant difference between dental hygiene and nursing students in intention to visit but not in intention to revisit. Conclusions : The results of this study suggest that more research on the medical market opening portion dental hygiene and nursing students' perception and attitude did not differ significantly, so the more accurate and open markets for a variety of medical education and school education and a variety of materials through hands-on experience be grasped should allow. Furthermore, students' acquisition of accurate prior knowledge about medical market opening is expected to be helpful to activate their employment in overseas.
Purpose: This study investigates dental health and chewing ability of patients hospitalized in geriatric hospital, and compares the chewing ability for each factor that can be used as data for dental healthcare of senior citizens and basic data for denture insurance for the elderly. Methods: The 101 subjects of this study were selected from 178 patients hospitalized in a geriatric hospital located in Daegu Metropolitan City, excluding 77 patients who were being treated in the intensive care unit and who were unable to communicate. The chewing ability of the patients were measured using an evaluation scale based on foods consisting of 10 different hardnesses. Results: Patients with less than 21 teeth, those with dentures and patients who were less than satisfied with their dental conditions had difficulties in chewing hard food such as dried squid and radish kimchi, and the Chewing ability increased proportionally to the number of remaining teeth(p<0.001), appropriateness of the maxillary and mandibular dentures(p<0.005) and the level of dental satisfaction(p<0.001). Conclusion: This study is limited as the subjects were selected from a single hospital and the authors estimate that various studies will be necessary to investigate the Chewing ability of patients hospitalized in long-term hospitals. The subjects of this study did not receive any dental treatment while staying in the hospital and many of the subjects had bad fit denture or didn't have dentures or did not use dentures, although they have dentures, which calls for denture construction and prosthetics through dental treatment.
Objectives: This study confirms the current status of visiting oral health-care services for the elderly to draw policy implications for revitalization of the visiting oral health care services in the future. Methods: First, a survey was conducted on health centers about the current status of the elderly visiting oral health-care service and how to revitalize it. Next, the number of oral hygiene services provided to the elderly was checked in the long-term care insurance system. Results: Oral health education (100%) was the most common practice in visiting oral health-care service for the elderly, and the most difficult thing in providing services was the lack of dental hygienists (38.9%). The status of oral health-care services in the long-term care insurance system for elderly revealed that the total number of service claims has been confirmed to be zero since the introduction of the system. Conclusions: Despite the existence of a system that provides elderly visiting oral healthcare services, to revitalize it, the law must be amended to secure a dental hygienist as the main agent of the activity and to further take responsibility for autonomous authority and performance.
