Objectives : The purpose of this study was to correlation between the index of dental caries in primary teeth and the habits of diet and snack which are expected to influence on the index. The subjects of this study were 165 parents of the children who visited a pediatric dental hospital located in Gyeong-gi do from Jun. 15th to Sep. 26th, 2009, and the self-report questionnaire survey was performed. Methods : A questionnaire used in a previous study was revised and completed for this study and it consisted of 15 items on general characteristic, nine items on dietary habit, and five items on snack intake habit. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS program and findings are as follows Results : 1. The index of dental caries in primary teeth by ages was that children of four years old has 4~5 with 27.5%, children of five years old has 2~3 and 4~5 with 33.3% and children of six years old has 1 and 8~9 with 25.6%, showing a statistically significant(${\chi}^2$=37.72, p<.01). 2. The frequency of brushing teeth was found to have statistically significant negative correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=61.20, p<.001). 3. The frequency of taking snack was found to have statistically significant positive correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=51.42, p<.001). 4. The desirability of dietary habit was found to have statistically significant negative correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=36.51, p<.001). 5. The frequency of taking biscuit was found to have statistically significant positive correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=67.74, p<.001). 6. The frequency of taking bread was found to have statistically significant positive correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=29.63, p<.01). 7. The frequency of taking caramel and candy was found to have statistically significant positive correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=38.85, p<.001). 8. The frequency of taking soft drinks was found to have statistically significant positive correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=52.92, p<.001). 9. The frequency of taking ice-creams was found to have statistically significant positive correlation with the number of primary teeth with dental caries (${\chi}^2$=75.07, p<.001). Conclusions : Those findings show that the children with undesirable dietary habit and higher frequency of taking snack have higher index of dental caries in primary teeth, therefore, it is considered that the regular brushing teeth and establishment of desirable dietary habit are very important for keeping health oral cavity. It is recommended that the continuous concern and repeated learning are needed in house and group of rearing infants so that the children take foods of fruits which have function of self-purification than the food of carbohydrates which has high adhesion and level of sweetness.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health promotion behavior in dental hygiene students and other major students Methods : Questionnaire survey was carried out targeting 222 dental hygiene students and other major students. The collected data was performed frequency & percentage, chi-square test and multiple regression analysis. Results : The oral health awareness is male and female all 'unhealthy' 39.3%, 39.4%. dental hygiene students and other major students 41.9%, 38.5%(p<0.05). Oral health promotion behavior results, dental hygiene student who is higher than the other major students certificate in oral health education 66.2%, regular dental check-up 81.1%, use of oral hygiene supplies 54.1%, brushing three times a day 79.1% (p<0.05). The affecting factors on the oral health promotion behavior of dental hygiene students were use of oral hygiene supplies, explained 20.8%(p<0.001). The affecting factors on the oral health promotion behavior the other major students were regular dental check-ups, explained 20.1%(p<0.001). Conclusions : To promote the oral health of university students oral health education should be provided. Importance of dental check-up, recommendation for the use of oral hygiene supplies, etc. The findings of this study were oral health education should be strengthened for them.

Objectives: Receiving proper dental care plays a significant role in maintaining good oral health. We investigated the relationship between regional deprivation and dental care utilization. Methods: Multilevel logistic regression was used to identify the relationship between the regional deprivation level and dental care utilization purpose, adjusting for individual-level variables, in adults aged 19+ in the 2008 Korean Community Health Survey (n=220 258). Results: Among Korean adults, 12.8% used dental care to undergo examination and 21.0% visited a dentist for other reasons. In the final model, regional deprivation level was associated with significant variations in dental care utilization for examination (p<0.001). However, this relationship was not shown with dental care utilization for other reasons in the final model. Conclusions: This study's findings suggest that policy interventions should be considered to reduce regional variations in rates of dental care utilization for examination.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the factors affecting patient satisfaction, repeat-use intention, and inducement intention for providing the suggestion for patient-oriented management of dental services organizations. For this study, the patient satisfaction model including 14 facets of satisfaction factors such as distance(time/location), human services(dentist-hygienist), treatment results, and facilities(convenient facilities/parking lot) was examined. Data were collected from 196 patients who visiting the same dental services organization more than two times of ten dental clinics at Kyeongsangnam-do area using self-administered questionnaire. Major results of the empirical analysis are as follows: First, patient satisfaction, repeat-use intention, and inducement intention were significantly correlated with gender, age, economic conditions among patients of dental clinics. Second, kindness of hygienist, treatment results, kindness of receptionist, waiting time, emergency medical services, and right-fee for services were found to have significant influence on dental services organizations. These research findings suggest that improvement of service quality in dental care and advancement in treatment ability of dentist and hygienist are very important to improve patient satisfaction and patient-oriented service system in dental services organizations.
The aim of this study was to make dental technicians recognize the importance of their professional self-concept, and to provide basic data to devise the educational programs and policies of establishing their positive professional self-concept. In addition, the investigator tried to present some improvement measures for dental technicians' actual services by examining their job satisfaction. Study findings are as follows: First, the score of study subjects' self-concept is 3.41($\pm$.58) (perfect score=5), middle or high in rank. As for the mean score of professional self-concept by realms, the self-concept of communication is 3.59($\pm$.67), the highest; the self-concept of leadership in the realm of professional service is 3.54($\pm$.75); the self-concept of skills is 3.50($\pm$.75); the self-concept of adaptability is 3.47($\pm$.69); and the recognizant level of satisfactory self-concept is 2.95($\pm$.81), below the normal. Second, as for the difference of professional self-concept according to general characteristics, such variables as age, marital states, and the length of one's service have a significant influence upon the recognition of self-concept. First, the self-concept of those whose age is between 31 and 35 is the highest (3.64$\pm$.49), and it is followed by that of those whose age is 36 and above (3.57$\pm$.77) and then that of those whose age is between 26 and 30 (3.31$\pm$.56)). And that of those whose age is below 25 is the lowest. The obove results show us that the professional self-concept of older study subjects is higher than that of younger ones in general(p<.01). As for marital states, that of married persons(3.54$\pm$.64) is higher than that of unmarried ones(3.35$\pm$.55)(p<.05). As for the length of one's service, that of longtime employees is higher than that of short-period workers(p<.01). In relation to positions, a manager's professional self-concept is the highest(3.89$\pm$.55) and that of an assistant technician is the lowest(3.17$\pm$.58). Study findings show that the professional self-concept of higher ranking technicians is higher than that of lower ones in general (p<.001). Based on the study findings, the investigator suggests followings: First, studies on the professional self-concept that is appropriate to the characteristics of dental technicians must be carried out with a new point of view. Second, a tool must be researched and developed in order for the professional self-concept of dental technicians to be measured. Third, if a new professional self-concept is established and a measuring tool is developed, a study on the relationship between dental technicians' professional self-concept and practice performance can be carried out again.
The purpose of this study was to examine customer relationship management service provided for customers of dental clinics and their relationship commitment in an effort to offer some information on customer relationship management by dental clinics. The subjects in this study were 206 adult residents in North Jeolla Province, on whom a self-administered survey was conducted. Customer relationship management service, satisfaction with customer relationship management service and relationship commitment were linked to one another, and the variables that affected relationship commitment were differentiated management and satisfaction with relationship management. Given the findings of the study, more research efforts should be directed into the customer relationship management of dental clinics to improve the effectiveness of it.
The authors observed a case of Burkitt's lymphoma, occurred in the mandible, of 6-year-old female patient who admitted to the Department of Oral Radiology, Kyung Hee University Medical Center. The serial radiograms, clinical findings, and microscopid findings had been taken and obtained following results: 1. In serial radiograms, invasive and infiltrative bone destruction in the both mandibular body region was observed. Perforation and erosion of cortical plate of the mandibular angle area and loss of alveolar lamina dura in involved teeth were also noticed. 2. In microscopic findings, a monotous overgrowth of undifferentiated monomorphic lymphoreticular cells found. Macrophages with and abundant clear cytoplasm are usually found scattered uniformly throughout the tumor, producing the very characteristic 'starry-sky' appearance.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which dental laboratories use proper materials, procedures, devices, and equipments to fabricate crown & bridge, PFM(Porcelain Fused to Metal) crown & bridge, partial denture, complete denture, and other prosteses. 100 laboratories in Seoul were selected for this investigation. Questionnaires were constructed focusing on five topocs:crown & bridge, PFM crown & bridge, partial denture, complete denture, and other prostheses. The results from this survey were as follows : 1. Most dental laboratories used old, inexpensive, and familiar materials rather than newly developed ones. 2. Most of the dental technicians did not stick to the standard procedures of handling materials, but to their own experiences. 3. Newly developed equipments to fabricate dental prostheses were possessed by nearly 30% dental laboratories. 4. About 80% of dental laboratories were using the procedures they had learned in the school : die trimming for accurate crown margin and softening heat treatment after RPD gold casting. But less than 30% of laboratories were shown to follow the boxing procedure to produce master cast and laboratory remounting in the process of complete denture. The findings show that dental laboratory procedures to fabricate dental prostheses are incomplete and inaccurate in some instances. So, further studies are neededs to clarify the causes of some inaccurate procedures, the better and more equipments should be supplied to produce the more accurate dental posthesis, and more efforts at enancing the appropriate use of dental materials and procedures should be made.

The purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting the professional identity of dental hygienists in an attempt to raise awareness of the necessity of professional identity building for dental hygienists, to spread awareness of dental hygienist as one of professions, and to boost the pride of dental hygienists. The subjects in this study were 268 dental hygienists in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The dental hygienists investigated got a mean of 3.44, 3.81 and 3.46 on professional identity, professional attitude and job satisfaction respectively. 2. In regard to the relationship of the general characteristics to professional identity, those who were older, whose career was longer, who worked in public dental clinics and who were married were statistically significantly ahead of their counterparts in that aspect. 3. Concerning connections between the general characteristics and professional attitude, age, career and marital status made statistically significant differences to that. As to links between the general characteristics and job satisfaction, there were statistically significant intergroup gaps according to age, career, service area, martial status and the field of job. 4. As for the correlation of the variables, better professional identity led to better professional attitude and higher job satisfaction. 5. In relation to factors affecting professional identity, better professional attitude, longer career and higher job satisfaction had a better impact on professional identity. Those factors made a 55% prediction of that.
