The purpose of this study was to examine dental hygienist's emotional labor, burnout and turnover intention. Data were collected from 215 dental hygienists working at hospitals and dental clinics through self-administered questionnaire, and analyzed by statistical analysis using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The main findings of the study are as follows: the higher the educational level of dental hygienists, and the bigger the size of dental institutions they work, and the lower the monthly income of dental hygienists, the higher the level of emotional labor of dental hygienists. Burnout was influenced on emotional labor and turnover intention. Emotion labor and turnover intention were influenced on burnout. Tenure under 5 years, five-day workweek (non), emotional burnout were found to have significant effects on the turnover intention. Dental hygienists were doing relatively high emotional labor, and it influences his burnout experience and turnover intention. It is needed to make the workplace better environment which can secure appropriate work load and rewards, and education programs etc.
The purpose of this study to find out factors that affect intention of career discontinuity among dental hygienists. The data was collected from 300 dental hygienists working at dental clinics. The total of 281 copies were used for analysis. Statistical analysis was performed using PASW Statistics 18.0 at the 5% significance level. T-test, ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analyses were applied in this analysis. The results were as follows: 1. As for intention of career discontinuity by general characteristics, there were statistically significant difference according to age, duration of employment, children, children age and monthly income (p<0.05). 2. As for intention of career discontinuity by job awareness, there were statistically significant difference according to turnover, work-life, retirement age of dental hygienist, duration of job maintenance and re-employment of dental hygienist (p<0.05). 3. As for hierarchical regression analysis of the factors affecting the intention of career discontinuity, the support from employer had most significant influence on intention of career discontinuity (p<0.05). In order to decrease the career discontinuity among dental hygienists, plans that can increase the work-environment should be implemented by improving support from employer.
This study was purposed to evaluate the level of occupational stress and the work-related factors of occupational stress in dental hygienists. The study was conducted during the period from May to October 2010 with study population consisted of 316 dental hygienists. The occupational stress was estimated with questionnaire of the Korean Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS) and the work-related factors were consisted with 9 work characteristics. Data analysis was performed with t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis using SPSS(win ver 18.0) program. The level of occupational stress was $52.42{\pm}4.95$ in dental hygienists. The levels of sub-scales for occupational stress were $64.56{\pm}12.17$ in interpersonal conflict, $59.85{\pm}13.59$ in physical environment, $54.60{\pm}13.51$ in organizational system, $52.37{\pm}11.47$ in job demand, $51.71{\pm}10.58$ in lack of reward, $48.14{\pm}12.97$ in insufficient job control, $46.68{\pm}9.25$ in job insecurity, $41.46{\pm}15.98$ in occupational climate, respectively. According to multiple regression analysis, physical burden and daily repetitive working hour were work-related factors of occupational stress in dental hygienists. To conclude, the occupational stress in dental hygienists was higher than mean score of reference values of occupational stress in Korean workers and methods for reducing work load and work hours considering work characteristics of dental hygienist are needed to prevent occupational stress in dental hygienists.

Dentists are known to be highly exposed to the musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). The present study investigated the prevalence of MSD among Korean dentists and association between their MSD and physical workload. In addition, detailed causes related to the physical workloads were identified in dental operation, and needs for improvement of dental instrument and environment were collected from Korean dentists. The standardized Nordic questionnaire was used to survey body troubles and three types of questionnaires were made to investigate the physical workloads, causes of the physical workloads and improvement priority of dental equipments, respectively. A total of 104 Korean dentists were participated in the survey. Neck trouble (82%) was the most prevalent in Korean dentists, and shoulder (68%) and low back trouble (56%) followed, while low back trouble was reported to be most frequent in previous studies. The body troubles were related to the physical workload of the corresponding body parts, although they were not associated with personal characteristics. Most Korean dentists selected 'to keep direct view inside patient's mouth' and 'no support of the hand with dental instruments' as the causes of awkward and strenuous work postures. They wanted design improvement for some equipment in their operating room such as operating light and arrangement of workplace.
This study describes the clinical steps taken in the treatment of a patient who had an avulsed right upper central incisor that presented with incomplete root development and chronic apical periodontitis. A 7-year-old boy was referred from a private dentist to a dental office specializing in endodontics. The tooth had remained in a dry environment for 20 minutes, and tooth replantation was performed at an emergency appointment. After clinical and radiographic examinations, root canal decontamination was performed, followed by several changes in intracanal calcium hydroxide medication. Blood clot formation was attempted, but bleeding within the root canal was insufficient; therefore, we opted for an intracanal medication change to stimulate mineralized tissue formation in the apical region. Root obturation was performed 45 days after the last change of intracanal medication, and clinical, radiographic, and tomographic follow-up examinations were performed at 3, 6, 18, and 40 months after the endodontic intervention. The increase in thickness and length of the root structure and the absence of root resorption were verified through follow-up examinations. Therefore, it was concluded that the procedures used were successful for tooth replantation.
Objectives: This study aimed to understand the effect of factors, possibilities, and desires on oral examination experience behavior of the elderly using raw data from the 2017 Community Health Survey. Methods: Hierarchical logistic regression analysis, an analysis method that controls the input order of a series of independent variables, was performed for 67,835 senior citizens aged 65 and older. Results: In terms of predisposing factors-in women, the higher the level of education, the higher the oral examination practice rate, and the lower the oral examination practice rate in divorce and bereavement among those aged 75 years or older. Regarding enabling factors, the lower the income rating, the higher the oral examination experience rate in religious and social participants as well as, leisure and charity participants, and the lower the oral examination experience rate in the natural environment. Regarding the need factors, the oral examination practice rate was high when the subjective oral health level was recognized as good. Conclusions: As a result, Anderson's model confirmed that various factors affect oral examination experience behavior, and institutional support for policy consensus is needed to promote oral examination experience behavior in older people in various directions.
The modern era of microbial genome analysis began in earnest in the 2000s with the generalization of metagenomics and gene sequencing techniques. Studying complex microbial community such as oral cavity and colon by a pure culture is considerably ineffective in terms of cost and time. Therefore, various techniques for genomic analysis have been developed to overcome the limitation of the culture method and to explore microbial communities existing in the natural environment at the gene level. Among these, DNA fingerprinting analysis and microarray chip have been used extensively; however, the most recent method of analysis is metagenomics. The study summarily examined the overview of metagenomics analysis techniques, as well as domestic and foreign studies on disease genomics and cluster analysis related to oral metagenome. The composition of oral bacteria also varies across different individuals, and it would become possible to analyze what change occurs in the human body depending on the activity of bacteria living in the oral cavity and what causality it has with diseases. Identification, isolation, metabolism, and presence of functional genes of microorganisms are being identified for correlation analysis based on oral microbial genome sequencing. For precise diagnosis and treatment of diseases based on microbiome, greater effort is needed for finding not only the causative microorganisms, but also indicators at gene level. Up to now, oral microbial studies have mostly involved metagenomics, but if metatranscriptomic, metaproteomic, and metabolomic approaches can be taken together for assessment of microbial genes and proteins that are expressed under specific conditions, then doing so can be more helpful for gaining comprehensive understanding.

Objectives: This study was conducted at a request for cooperation through an analysis of the effect of toothbrushing facilities at a public health center in Seongdong-gu. Also, with the aim of furnishing basic data to the proposal of a program for improving the ability of school aged children in managing oral cavities and developing a correct toothbrushing habit, the study conducted an investigation of how toothbrushing facilities affect change in the oral environment management ability and behavior of oral health care. Methods: From among elementary schools located in Seongdong-gu, Seoul the study selected A Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities were established and have been operated since 2008, B Elementary School in an adjacent region within the jurisdiction of Seongdong-gu where the demographic environment was similar among schools where toothbrushing facilities were newly established in 2012, and C Elementary School without toothbrushing facilities. Then the study was aimed at first grade students of the schools and an investigation was carried out from April to December 2012. Through a dental checkup, the study evaluated the teeth and periodontal health conditions, and a test of the oral environment management ability was undertaken three times. Regarding change of oral health care behavior, the study carried out a self-recording survey. Results: 1. Concerning decayed and filled tooth(dft) and decayed and filled surface (dfs), A Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities have been established and operated from the past showed a relatively lower decayed, missing, and filled teeth index than B Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities were established in 2012 or C Elementary School without toothbrushing facilities; however, there was no significant difference (p>0.05). For CPI, there was no significant difference by school; however, in looking into the difference between boy students and girl students, Code (0) was discovered higher in boy students whereas Code (1) was shown higher in girl students. 2. In the PHP index test in accordance with the existence of toothbrushing facilities before the installation of toothbrushing facilities, for A Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities have been established and operated from the past, the school recorded 4.28 points whereas B Elementary School where the facilities were established in 2012 recorded 3.51 points. Meanwhile C Elementary School without the facilities posted 4.30 points. Therefore there was a statistically significant difference according to the existence of toothbrushing facilities (p<0.05). 3. In a comparison of teeth health care behavior according to the existence of toothbrushing facilities, the number of answers that the respondent did not brush their teeth after lunch over the past one week was higher in B Elementary School and C Elementary School where there were no toothbrushing facilities. Regarding the average number of brushing after lunch for one week, it was discovered higher in A Elementary School (p<0.01). 4. In change of teeth health care behavior before and after the establishment of toothbrushing facilities, the case of answering that the respondents did not brush their teeth after lunch for one week increased more after establishment than before establishment. Also the average number of teeth brushings after lunch for one week decreased further after the establishment of toothbrushing facilities; however, it did not show a significant difference (p>0.05). One of the reasons that they do not brush their teeth, "the lack of a place", decreased significantly after establishment than before establishment (p<0.05), whereas the answer, "because their friends do not brush their tooth" increased greatly after establishment than before establishment; however, there was no significant difference (p>0.05). 5. In the comparison of the degree of knowledge about dental health according to the existence of toothbrushing facilities, the degree of knowledge about dental health was shown significantly higher in A Elementary School with toothbrushing facilities than in B Elementary School and C Elementary School where there were no toothbrushing facilities (p<0.01). Conclusions: Given the above results, it is difficult to attract change in behavior only with an environmental improvement; therefore, it is deemed necessary to develop an educational program that will help children to make a habit of oral health care not only through a school but also through a related policy and financial support of government organizations as well as the construction of the basis of a systematic and consistent cooperative system with relevant organizations.
The purpose of this study was to examine about correlation among dental hygienists' work environment, recognition on preventive education of musculoskeletal disease, the work-related musculoskeletal disease, and the work characteristics. The aim is to suggest a management plan for reducing symptom of musculoskeletal disease. The self-administered questionnaire was surveyed and collected from August 1-12 of 2011 targeting 210 dental hygienists Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daegu, Pohang. Except 5 people whose responses are not clear and who suffered accident, the analysis was made on 205 people. The collected data was analyzed by using SPSS WIN 15.0 program. As a result, dental hygienists, the average was the highest with 3.07 in 'between shoulder and neck(right side).' Seeing the pain frequency by body region, the average was the highest with 1.47 in 'ankle/calf(left side).' Seeing the appearance of having trouble in work ability related to pain experience of musculoskeletal disease by body region, the average was indicated to be the highest with 1.84 in 'knee(right side). Therefore, the agencies have to pay more attentions and efforts to ensure safety of musculoskeletal disorders in dental hygienist.
