Four hundreds and eighty-seven dental hygiene students were selected and a questionnaire survey was carried out to find out how emotional intelligence and ego resiliency affect interpersonal skills so that this can be the basis to enhance their interpersonal skills. PASW statistics 18.0 was used for analysis, results are as follows: It was statistically significant that students with higher emotional intelligence and ego resiliency and good interpersonal skills answered that they had high economic standard of living (p<0.001, p<0.05). Students raised by parents showed high emotional intelligence and ego resiliency (p<0.05), same result was shown among religious students too (p<0.05). Students with high ego resiliency showed better interpersonal skills (p<0.001), and ego resiliency influenced more on interpersonal skills than emotional intelligence. Therefore, curriculum to develop emotional intelligence and ego resiliency of dental hygiene students to improve their interpersonal skills which is one of the core competences of dental hygienist needs to be planned in the course.
Background: The purpose of this study is to identify the gender sensitivity and gender role stereotypes of students in dental hygiene and to provide basic data to expand social awareness of equal gender sensitivity and gender role in dental hygiene and students by identifying the degree of correlation. Methods: The purpose of this study was to study dental hygiene students at colleges in Gyeonggi and Chungcheong areas. The survey was conducted from April 1 to April 30, 2021. The final sample was analyzed on 157 subjects. T-test and ANOVA analysis were performed to compare gender sensitivity and gender role stereotypes according to general characteristics. Equal variances were tested using the Levene statistic, and significant differences between groups were identified through Scheffe's post hoc analysis. Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to confirm the correlation between gender sensitivity and gender role stereotypes. Results: Gender sensitivity was 2.69 and gender role stereotypes were 1.83. Among the sub-areas of gender sensitivity, gender role openness was the highest at 2.86, and non-violence was the lowest at 2.50. As for gender role stereotypes, social stereotypes were the highest among sub-areas at 1.71. Among the general characteristics, there was a statistically significant difference in gender sensitivity according to the presence or absence of opposite sex friends (p=0.011). The gender identity openness of gender sensitivity and the physical sub-areas of gender role stereotypes showed the highest positive correlation(r=0.955). Among the sub-areas of gender sensitivity, gender role openness and domestic stereotypes showed the lowest negative correlation (r=-0.404) among the sub-areas of gender role stereotypes. Conclusion: Dental hygiene students should be able to critically analyze and solve problems of not only sexual violence but also gender discrimination and imbalance in social life. For this, environmental factors such as school education and professor guidance must be strengthened.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to provide a counseling program basis for the department satisfaction in dental hygiene department according to the subjective factors of happiness in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 197 dental hygiene students in Gwangju from April 10 to 30, 2017. From collected data, general characteristics, happiness index and department satisfaction of the subjects were investigated. Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The happiness index according to general characteristics showed a significant difference in grade, character, friendship, academic achievement, pocket money satisfaction and health condition. The department satisfaction according to general characteristics showed a significant difference in grade, age, character, motivation for further study, friendship, academic achievement, pocket money satisfaction, health condition, sleep time. Happiness index showed a significant correlation with department satisfaction. The happiness index was higher as the department satisfaction was higher. Factors that affect happiness index are friendship, health condition, relationship satisfaction, perception satisfaction, school satisfaction, curriculum satisfaction and department satisfaction. Conclusions: The happiness index was higher as the department satisfaction was higher. Therefore, it is necessary to develop various programs to increase the happiness.
Purpose: This study was performed to provide basic educational data for improvement of satisfaction in clinical practice by investigating the relationship of clinical practice satisfaction with self-efficacy, fatigue and communication skill in dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted among 205 second- and third-year students enrolled in an dental hygiene program at three colleges located in A and B province from March 10 to April 10, 2018. Results: Satisfaction level of clinical practice was significantly higher in the group more satisfied with their majors, with more healthy subjective health status, more satisfied with their interpersonal relationships, with a higher self-efficacy, with a lower fatigue, and with better communication skill. Clinical practice satisfaction had a significantly positive correlation with self-efficacy and communication skill and a significantly negative correlation with fatigue. Factors affecting clinical practice satisfaction in the subjects were communication skill, self-efficacy and fatigue. The total variance explained by all three variables was 20%. Conclusion: Further studies and development of education programs including a broad range of strategies for clinical training are warranted by reflecting those related variables to improve clinical practice satisfaction in dental hygiene students.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the self-esteem and job-seeking efficacy of dental hygiene students in an attempt to provide some information on career guidance, counseling and the development of employment programs by colleges, as self-esteem seemed to be one of integral variables to affect job-seeking efficacy. Methods : The subjects in this study were the dental hygiene students in three different colleges in South and North Jeolla Provinces. After a self-administered survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 562 respondents were analyzed by the SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science) WIN 12.0. Results : 1. The students investigated got a mean of 2.43 in self-esteem, which was not a high score. The sophomores had a better self-esteem than the freshmen and juniors, and the gaps among the respondents in each subfactor of self-esteem were significant($p^*$ <0.01, $p^{**}$ <0.05). 2. The students got a mean of 3.12 in overall job-seeking efficacy, and there were significant differences among them in each subfactor of job-seeking efficacy($p^*$ <0.01). 3. The freshmen were ahead of the sophomores and juniors in job-seeking efficacy, and the gaps between the former and the latter were significant($p^*$ <0.01). 4. There was a significant relationship between the self-perceived self-esteem and job-seeking efficacy of the students. A higher self-esteem led to a better job-seeking efficacy(p<0.01). Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings illustrated that a higher self-esteem had a more positive effect on job-seeking efficacy. Therefore the development of programs geared toward boosting the self-esteem of dental hygiene students is required, and educational institutions should provide quality self-esteem programs for students to plan and prepare for their future, to make the right career choice, to improve their vocational adjustment, to keep pursuing self-development and to build the right values.
Objectives : The purpose of the study is to gain some basic material for the improvement of dental clinics' homepages through a survey investigation, in which college students of Dental Hygiene Departments and Dental Hygienists in Kwangju and Cheollanamdo Province Methods : It conducted the self-reported questionnaire survey on the Recognition Degrees of the Dental Clinics' Homepages from May 26, 2010 to October 19 targeting 240 dental hygienists who are working for dental offices and 638 college students of Dental Hygiene Departments. Results : 1. It was asked whether they have visited dental homepages for the recent one year; 'yes' answers occupied 68.1%, double than 'no' answers. 2. It was asked how much they know services provided in dental homepages; The more respondents correctly answered that there exist all these services like general information service, visitor's book and bulletin board service, reservation service, dental information service, counseling service, and visual service. 3. All the respondents answered that the homepage of each dental clinic is closely related with the image of the clinic : freshmen showed 3.84, sophomore showed 4.03, juniors showed 4.03, and dental hygienists showed 3.88. 4. It was asked how much they know services provided in dental homepages; Are there the homepages for dental hygienists? Many of them answered that IT experts or businesses are managing the homepages in the technical respect(38.4%) and their use and general administration mainly belongs to dental hygienists(46.2%). Conclusions : It is necessary that through the studies of dental hygienists' interest and understanding on dental homepages we have to seek the development orientation of the technical management and the way of using them, and furthermore we have to know the thoughts of patients on dental homepages, who are users of the dental informations, and find the ways of improving medical services which the patients want.
Objectives : The objective of this research was to investigate the smoking state of students in Y university, located in Youngdong-gun, Choungbuk. Methods : This research was conducted toward 311 number of students in the university. The questionnaire basically consists of the status of smoking, the behavior of smoker and non-smoker. Results : 58.2% of the male respondents were current smoker, but 72.4% of the females were non-smoker. 58.2% of the current smokers were 22 to 25 aged group. The highest rate of time to begin with smoking was in 15 to 18 years old and the most of people consumed 11 to 20 pieces of cigarettes per day. 48.9% of the students have an experience to keep no smoking more than one month. There were reverse correlation(r=-.335) between the status of smoking and sex, and positive correlation(r=.264) between the status of smoking and an age. Of the people experiencing non-smoking, 55.3% were smoking 'everyday' and 44.7% were 'sometimes'. The biggest part of the reason why stopped smoking was for 'the advices of other people'(25.5%), and 'Harm to health' and 'Social atmosphere of non-smoking'(21.3%) were following. Conclusions : In the university students, current smokers among male students were still high smoking rate. Therefore Dental Hygiene students in the same University have to provide the quit smoking education and oral health care methods for current smokers.
Objectives: This study aimed to identify the importance of the directivity of reflecting on a realistic task when aiming to reorganize a relevant law for dental hygienists through examining dental hygiene students' perceived need for a relevant law on dental hygiene related work. Methods: A survey was conducted targeting dental hygiene students from March 28 to April 30, 2018. The following findings were obtained. The results were summarized as follows. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 21.0 statistical program. Results: With reference to the influence of the need for a work-related legislation on dental hygienists' awareness of their legal rights, findings revealed that the latter was higher when there was higher involvement in precision impression procedures, higher involvement in occlusal adjustment in the middle stage, and higher perceived need for legislation on a comprehensive dental hygiene course (all p<0.05). Conclusions: Based on these findings, it is considered necessary to pursue a national solution for modifying the relevant legal system to provide institutional support for dental hygienists' work. Additionally, the worry in the whole dentistry in order to establish dental hygienists' task.
For the purpose of strengthening Dental Hygiene students' confidence and motivation in the Dental Hygiene Department and helping construct proper professionalism, survey on Dental Hygiene students' consciousness of attitude to and satisfaction of the course, career plan and occupation mind set was carried out. 530 three year students in 8 Dental Hygiene academies in Seoul and Kyonggi province were questioned. The results of the survery are as follows:. 1. Dental Hygiene students' motives consisted primarily of employment and a desire for professionalism 25% of them entered the course after one failure in the entrance examination and 17% had family members engaging in the dentistry field 84%, the largest portion, were from an academic high school. 24% had some knowledge of Dental Hygiene, which they had acquired from seniors, friends, and teachers. 2. Patient care and treatment assistance related matters were not considered important in the course. The weak points of the course turned out to be education in computers and foreign languages, but the weakest was the ability of patient care during clinical training. 53% had experiences had thought of changing their major while in the course because it didn't match their aptitude and interest. 3. As for a career after graduation, 49% worried about it Most students wanted to work at a dental hospital or general hospital, The most favored duty was coordination or reception or oral disease preventive work. They wanted to work untill they had a stable living. 68% answered they would get a job at an oral clinic and 70% said they would continue studying for self-realization. 4. Satisfaction with the major was high in students whose aptitude and interest matched the course, who had background knowledge of the major, and who. didn't think of changing the major but would continue studying resulting in statistically slight difference(p<0.001). As to satisfaction with the faculties, it was high in the students whose aptitude and interest matched the major and who didn't think about a career after graduation showing a slight difference(p<05, p<0l). As for satisfaction with clinical training, students whose aptitude and interest matched the major and who didn't consider changing the major answered positively showing a statistically slight difference(p<.001, p<.01). As to satisfaction with the course, it was high in the students who entered with aptitude and interest, who had preliminary knowledge, who didn't consider changing the major, and who didn't think about a career after graduation showing a statistically slight difference(p<.001, p<.05). 5. Occupation mind-set was positive for students who entered with interest and aptitude, who had preliminary knowledge, and who had not considered changing the major showing a statistically slight difference(P<.001). The higher the satisfaction with the major, faculty and clinical training was, the more positive the occupation mind-set was(p<.001).
