Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the influences of job performance of dental hygienists on emotional labor evaluation. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 203 dental hygienists working at dental hospitals and clinics in Gyeongnam and Busan from May 2014 and March 2015. The study instruments comprised general characteristics of the subjects (9 items), job performance competency (44 items), and emotional labor evaluation (29 items) by Likert 5 point scale. Data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 program and AMOS 18.0 program. Results: Those who had turnover intention showed higher scores in the dental treatment cooperation category and overall job performance than those who had not. Higher job performance was shown in those who had more work experience and higher salary. The scores of emotional labor evaluation were higher in the group of higher salary and team and department leaders. The job performance had a significant impact of the emotional labor evaluation. Conclusions: The job performance of dental hygienists had a significant influence on the emotional labor evaluation. Psychologic stress by work caused the dental hygienists to have depression and lower quality of life.
Objectives: This study analyzes professional identity, resilience, and job satisfaction based on the personality types of dental hygienists, and identifies factors that impact job satisfaction. The aim was to provide basic information for developing customized education programs for each personality type, which consequently contribute toward improvement of job satisfaction in dental hygienists. Methods: A total of 215 dental hygienists working at dental hospitals and clinics in the Seoul and Gyeonggi provinces were ask to fill an online survey from June 20 to 30, 2022; of these, 214 surveys were considered for statistical analysis. Results: The professional identity of dental hygienists was correlated with resilience (r=0.750) and job satisfaction (r=0.452), and resilience was correlated with job satisfaction (r=0.539) (p<0.001). The factor affecting job satisfaction of dental hygienists was resilience (β=0.495) (p<0.001). Conclusions: In order to improve the job satisfaction of dental hygienists, it is necessary to implement a test that can identify individual characteristics. Accordingly, it will be necessary to develop a customized education program to improve professional identity and resilience.
Objectives: This study aimed to provide basic data to establish a foundation for efficient operation of the organization by identifying the factors that affect the job embeddedness of dental hygienists. Methods: A survey was conducted from March to July 2018, targeting dental hygienists working in dental clinics and hospitals. Results: The study of the factors affecting job embeddedness of dental hygienists revealed that along with career, marital status, surface acting of emotional labor, and even emotional hiding and false expression, which are sub-areas of the surface acting, have statistically significant influences on job embeddedness. In other words, in a married dental hygienist with relatively high work experience, the surface acting of emotional labor is found to be high in job embeddedness, and the explanatory power of the model is approximately 53.2%. Conclusions: In order to improve the job embeddedness of clinical dental hygienists, it seems necessary to prepare an effective program to strengthen the surface behavior of emotional labor.
Objectives: This study aimed to provide basic data for the development of clinical practice-related education program by analyzing the effects of grit, job satisfaction, and retention intention on transition shock of new dental hygienists. Methods: From April 19 to July 4, 2022, the data was collected from 200 new dental hygienists working for dental hospitals/clinics. Using the SPSS Statistics ver. 22.0, this study was conducted the t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: There were positive correlations between grit, job satisfaction, and retention intention, a negative correlation between grit and transition shock, a positive correlation between job satisfaction and retention intention, a negative correlation between job satisfaction and transition shock. and a negative correlation between retention intention and transition shock. As the factors affecting transition shock, lower pay and main performance of medical cooperation work increased transition shock. When job satisfaction and retention intention were higher, transition shock decreased. Conclusions: In order to reduce transition shock of new dental hygienists, it would be necessary to operate clinical practice-related training program, and also to establish a training environment similar to the clinical site/context/situation similar to clinical context/situation.
This study investigated the relationship between oral health knowledge, behavior and orthodontic satisfaction in orthodontic patients visiting dental hospitals and clinics and provided suggestions to improve orthodontic patients' satisfaction. This study anayzed structured self-administered questionnaires collected from 245 patients who visited 5 dental clinics in Gwangju Metropolitan City. Regarding oral health knowledge, the highest percentage of correct answers was for the item "Cavities heal themselves over time" (97.1%), and the lowest percentage of correct answers was for the item "Cavity bacteria move from tooth to tooth" (16.7%). Five fluoride items showed a lower percentage of correct answers than those for cavity and gingival diseases. Regarding the survey on oral health behavior, the highest score was found for the item "I brush my teeth with a certain method and order" (3.78 out of 5), and the lowest score was found for the item "I use an electric toothbrush" (1.34 out of 5). Regarding the survey on orthodontic satisfaction, the highest score was found for the item "I would recommend receiving medical treatment at the department of orthodontics" (4.23), and the lowest score was found for the item "Orthodontic cost is reasonable" (3.46). While oral health behavior had on orthodontic satisfaction, oral health knowledge had no effect on it. Oral health behaviors should be improved to enhance orthodontic satisfaction.
