With successful extraction of growth factors and bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs) from mammalian teeth, many researchers have supported development of a bone substitute using tooth-derived substances. Some studies have also expanded the potential use of teeth as a carrier for growth factors and stem cells. A broad overview of the published findings with regard to tooth-derived regenerative tissue engineering technique is outlined. Considering more than 100 published papers, our team has developed the protocols and techniques for processing of bone graft material using extracted teeth. Based on current studies and studies that will be needed in the future, we can anticipate development of scaffolds, homogenous and xenogenous tooth bone grafts, and dental restorative materials using extracted teeth.

Electrochemical characteristics of welded stainless steels containing Ti have been studied by using the electrochemical techniques in 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$+0.01 M KSCN solutions at $25^{\circ}C$. Stainless steels with 12 mm thick-ness containing $0.2{\~}0.9 wt\%$ Ti were fabricated with vacuum melting and following rolling process. The stainless steels were solutionized for 1hr at $1050^{\circ}C$ and welded by MIG method. Samples were individually prepared with welded zone, heat affected zone, and matrix for intergranular corrosion and pitting test. Optical microscope, XRD and SEM are used for analysing microstructure, surface and corrosion morphology of the stainless steels. The welded zone of the stainless steel with lower Ti content have shown dendrite structure mixed with $\gamma$ and $\delta$ phase. The Cr-carbides were precipitated at twin and grain boundary in heat affected zone of the steel and also the matrix had the typical solutionized structure. The result of electrochemical measurements showed that the corrosion potential of welded stainless steel were Increased with higher Ti content. On the other hand, reactivation($I_r$), passivation and active current($I_a$) density were decreased with higher Ti content. In the case of lower Ti content, the corrosion attack of welded stainless steel was remarkably occurred along intergranular boundary and ${\gamma}/{\delta}$ phase boundary in heat affected zone.

Effects of Al and Cr alloying elements on the corrosion behavior of Fe-Al-Cr alloy system was investigated using potentiodynamic and cyclic potentiodynamic polarization tests(CPPT) in the $H_2SO_4$ and HCI solutions. The corrosion morphologies in Fe-Al-Cr alloy were analysed by utilizing scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and EDX. It was found that the corrosion potential of Fe-20Cr-20Al was highest whereas the critical anodic current density and passive current density were lower than that of the other alloys in 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ solution. The second anodic peak at 1000 mV disappeared in the case of alloys containing high Al and low Cr contents. Pitting potential increased with increasing Cr content and repassivation potential decreased with decreasing Al content in 0.1 M HCI solution. Fe-Al-Cr alloy containing high Al and Cr contents showed remarkably improved pitting resistance against $Cl^-$ attack from pit morphologies.

The aim of the 3D medical imaging is to facilitate the creation of clinically usable image-based algorithm. Clinically usable imaging algorithm for image analysis requires a high degree of interaction to verify and correct results from registration algorithms, such as the Insight Toolkit (ITK) and the Visualization Toolkit (VTK) which are the class libraries. ITK provides segmentation algorithms and VTK has powerful 3D visualization. However, to apply those libraries to the medical images such as Computerized Tomography (CT), the algorithm based on the interactive construction and modification of data objects are necessary. In this paper we showed the 3D registration about mandibular premolar of human teeth acquired by micro-CT scanner. Also, we used the ITK to find the contour of pulp layer of premolar, furthermore, the 3D imaging was visualized with VTK designed to create one kind of view on the data of 3D visualization. Finally, we evaluated that the volume model of pulp layer would be useful for the tooth morphology in dental medicine.

Nowadays the open-type lead-acid battery for vehicle use is being replaced with the sealed-type because it needs no maintenance and has a longer cycle life. Thus researches on this battery are being conducted very actively by many advanced battery companies. There is, however, a serious problem with the maintenance free(MF) battery that its cathode electrode has a limited cycle life due to a corrosion of grid. In this study, it was aimed to improve a corrosion resistance of the cathode grid which is commonly made of Pb-Ca alloy for a mechanical strength. For this purpose, various amounts of alloying elements such as Sn, Ag and Ba were added singly or together to the Pb-Ca alloys and investigated their corrosion behaviors. Batteries fabricated by using these alloys as cathode grids were subjected to life cycle test and their corrosion layers appeared at the interface between the grids and the active materials were carefully observed in order to clarify effects of alloying elements.

Effects of alloying elements on the corrosion layer formation of Pb-grid/active materials interface has been researched for improvement of corrosion resistance of Pb-Ca alloy. For this research, various amounts of alloying elements such as Sn, Ag and Ba were added to the Pb-Ca alloys and investigated their corrosion behaviors. Batteries fabricated by using these alloys as cathode grids were subjected to life cycle test. Overcharge life cycle test was carried out at $75^{\circ}C$, 4.5 A, for 110 hrs. with KS standard (KSC 8504). And then, after keeping the battery with open circuit state for 48 hr, discharge was carried out at 300A for 30 sec. Corrosion morphology and interface between Pb-grid and active materials were investigated by using ICP, SEM, WDX, and LPM. Corrosion layer of Pb-Ca alloy got thicken with increasing Ca content. For Pb-Ca-Sn alloy, thickness of corrosion layer decreased as Sn and Ag content increased gradually. In case of Pb-Ca-Sn-Ba alloy, thickness of corrosion layer decreased up to 0.02 wt% Ba addition, whereas, it was not changed in case of above 0.02 wt% Ba addition.

In this paper, we propose the automatic detection method for individual region separation using panorama image. Finding areas that contain individual teeth is one of the most important tasks in automating 3D models through individual tooth separation. In the conventional method, the maxillary and mandibular teeth regions are separated using a straight line or a specific CT slide, and the tooth regions are separated using a straight line in the vertical direction. In the conventional method, since the teeth are arranged in a curved shape, there is a problem that each tooth region is incorrectly detected in order to generate an accurate tooth region. This is a major obstacle to automating the creation of individual tooth models. In this study, we propose a method to find the correct tooth curve by using the jawbone curve which is very similar to the tooth curve in order to overcome the problem of finding the area containing the existing tooth. We have proposed a new method to accurately set individual tooth regions using the feature that individual teeth are arranged in a direction similar to the normal direction of the tooth alignment curve. In the proposed method, the maxillary and mandibular teeth can be more precisely separated than the conventional method, and the area including the individual teeth can be accurately set. Experiments using real dental CT images demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.
Hardening behavior and metal-mold reaction of phosphate bonded investments for titanium and titanium alloys were investigated. Alumina and $Y_2O_3-stabilized$ zirconia, which are thermodynamically more stable than Titania, were used as major filler materials. $NH_4H_2PO_4$ was used as binder, and MgO was used as hardening acceleration material. A different composition ratio of binder and hardening acceleration material had effected on general hardening behavior and castings. And adding $YO_3-stabilized$ zirconia to alumina, metal-mold reaction characteristics for castings was evaluated. Considering working conditions and effects on castings, the best composition ratio conditions were both 10:10 and 12:8($NH_4H_2PO_4vs.\;MgO$). On the other hand, increasing the contents of $Y_2O_3-stabilized$ zirconia for filler material, metal-mold reaction layer of titanium castings was greatly decreased.
In this study, $Hydroxyapatite+TiO_2(HAp+TiO_2)$ composite sol coatings on Cp-Ti substrates were deposited by using a sol-gel derived precursor. Prior to hydroxyapatite coating, the samples were micropolished and divided into three sets. The first set was coated with hydroxyapatite (HAp) directly on Cp-Ti. The second set was first coated with intermediate titania layer and then coated with HAp. The third set samples were coated with $HAp+TiO_2$ (50:50) composite sol. Each samples were predried at $200^{\circ}C$, and heat treated at $600^{\circ}C$. The formation of hydroxyapatite has been confirmed by XRD analyses and the substrate material was found to be oxidized with negligible amount of CaO in the coating. The NaOH treated samples showed the presence of rutile crystal. The SEM studies revealed surface morphologies of each samples. $HAp+TiO_2$ composite sol coating layer was found to be smooth. The bonding strength of each samples were calculated using pull out tests. The bonding strength of the $HAp+TiO_2$ composite sol coating on substrate was 29.35MPa.
