In order to improve automotive fuel economy, vehicle weight should be reduced. Achieving significant weight reductions will normally require reducing the panel thickness or using alternative materials such as aluminum alloy sheet. These changes will affect the dent resistance of the panel. In this study, the correlation between panel size, curvature, thickness, material properties and dent resistance is investigated. A parametric approach is adopted, utilizing a "design software" tool incorporating empirical equations to predict denting and panel stiffness for simplified panels. The most effective period to optimize an automotive body panel is early in its development. The developed design program can be used to minimize panel thickness or compare different materials, while maintaining adequate panel performance.

Recently, there has been a rapid increase in demand for lightweight walls for their use as interior partitions, as types of structure have gradually changed from shear wall structures to column structures or flat plate column wall systems. The lack of resisting force in lightweight walls is found by measuring the depth of dents in impact resistance tests, but it is not a direct factor of impact resistance. However, in the user's position, dents of over a certain size are clearly a factor that visually reminds the need for repair. In this study, we reviewed relative methods of assessment of the need for repair based on the visual means of determination (sensory test) on the dents on lightweight walls. Dents were found to stand out starting from depths of about 4mm, and the depth of roughly 5mm was found to be the criterion for determining the necessity of repair for men, while it was 4mm for women.
Nematode infections compromise human health and reduce agricultural productivtiy. Experiments that exploit the powerful molecular genetics of the free-living nematode Caenorhabdl - elegans have contributed to our understanding of how the major classes of anthelmintic nema-tocides kill worms and how worms might evolve resistance to these drugs In C. elegans, as in parasites, benzimidixoles interfere with microtubule polyumerization the imidazothiazoles/tetra-hydropyrimidines activate nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, and the macrocyclic la ctones activate qlutamate-gate chloride chanels. Mutant alleles of genes that encode drug targes often confer resistance in C. elegans. Preliminary evidence suggests that alleles of homologous genes in parasites will, in many cases, also play a role in resistance. Thus information acquired from C. elegans can be usefully applied to understand the mechanisms of drug sensitivity and the genetics of resis-tance in parasites.
PURPOSES : In this study, a fracture-based finite element (FE) model is proposed to evaluate the fracture behavior of fiber-reinforced asphalt (FRA) concrete under various interface conditions. METHODS : A fracture-based FE model was developed to simulate a double-edge notched tension (DENT) test. A cohesive zone model (CZM) and linear viscoelastic model were implemented to model the fracture behavior and viscous behavior of the FRA concrete, respectively. Three models were developed to characterize the behavior of interfacial bonding between the fiber reinforcement and surrounding materials. In the first model, the fracture property of the asphalt concrete was modified to study the effect of fiber reinforcement. In the second model, spring elements were used to simulated the fiber reinforcement. In the third method, bar and spring elements, based on a nonlinear bond-slip model, were used to simulate the fiber reinforcement and interfacial bonding conditions. The performance of the FRA in resisting crack development under various interfacial conditions was evaluated. RESULTS : The elastic modulus of the fibers was not sensitive to the behavior of the FRA in the DENT test before crack initiation. After crack development, the fracture resistance of the FRA was found to have enhanced considerably as the elastic modulus of the fibers increased from 450 MPa to 900 MPa. When the adhesion between the fibers and asphalt concrete was sufficiently high, the fiber reinforcement was effective. It means that the interfacial bonding conditions affect the fracture resistance of the FRA significantly. CONCLUSIONS : The bar/spring element models were more effective in representing the local behavior of the fibers and interfacial bonding than the fracture energy approach. The reinforcement effect is more significant after crack initiation, as the fibers can be pulled out sufficiently. Both the elastic modulus of the fiber reinforcement and the interfacial bonding were significant in controlling crack development in the FRA.
Feathering spindle is one of the critical parts of the rotor system in the Smart Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(SUAV) that it was manufactured with special material, Maraging C300. During the initial ground and tie-down flight tests of the SUAV, surface of the feathering spindle contacting to the needle-roller bearings showed excessive wear and dent due to high vibrating loads transferred from the rotating blades. Gas nitriding process was applied to the bearing contact surface of the feathering spindle to increase surface hardness so as to improve the surface defects. This paper briefly presents the gas nitriding process adopted and the spindle quality improvements including wear and corrosion resistance.
In an effort to improve the dent resistance of exterior body panels at a reduced steel thickness, the bake hardenable steels added Ti or Nb with tensile strength of 35Kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ were investigated. The bake hardenability increased with the annealing temperature and solute carbon content. Bake hardening of 3 to 5Kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ was obtained in steels with a controlled solute carbon concentration range from 6 to 10ppm. The galvannealing temperature and time had little influence on the bake hardenability. The Fe-Zn alloying reaction of 35Kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ BH steel was remarkably retarded due to a 0.07%P addition. The optimum galvannealing temperatures of 35Kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ BH steel were ranged from 520 to 56$0^{\circ}C$ in view of the Fe content and powdering resistance. The cross-section and planar views of the galvannealed coatings to characterize morphology development were discussed.

The objective of this study was to assess the wear resistance of tooth-colored materials used in crown restoration for primary molars with a chewing simulator. In this study, four groups-three experimental groups and one control group-were included. They consisted of three-dimensional (3D) printed resin crowns (NextDent and Graphy), milled nano-hybrid ceramic crowns (MAZIC Duro), and prefabricated zirconia crowns (NuSmile). Twelve mandibular second molar specimens were prepared from each group. In the wear experiment, 6.0 × 105 cycles were conducted with a force of 50 N, and a 6 mm-diameter steatite ball was used as an antagonist. The amount of wear was calculated by comparing the scan files before and after the chewing simulation using 3D metrology software, and the worn cross-section was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The resin and ceramic groups did not exhibit any statistically significant differences. However, compared to other crown groups, the zirconia crown group demonstrated notably reduced levels of wear (p < 0.05). In SEM images, layers and cracks were observed in the 3D-printed resin crown groups, which differed from those in the other groups.

Telematics services include automatic location tracking for emergency rescue, which is available for use in case of a car accident due to falling off roadways. This paper presents a simulation study on how far a car will fall before it hits the ground if it drops off of a roadway due to an accident or a natural disaster. The greatest horizontal distance the falling car can travel is presented in this paper, based on the assumption that air resistance as well as the direction and degree of acceleration due to gravity is negligible. This paper also presents the depth of the dent caused by the car sinking into the ground, the time it took for the car to fall free, and the velocity at which it travelled and horizontal distance it traveled. In this paper, the damage done to cars that crash into the ground and the dangers thereof are graphically represented.
