  • This study was carried out in order to study the foaming properties of mungbean protein. Mungbean protein isolate was tested for the purpose of finding out the effect of pH, addition of sucrose on foaming properties. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Foam expansion values were generally depen. dent on protein concentration to 3% protein suspension. From 1% to 3% suspension, foam expansion values increased. However over 3% suspension, the values decreased. In 1% mungbean protein suspension, the foam expansion value of suspension at pH 4.5 was greater than that of at pH9. In 3%, 5%, and 10% suspensiona the foam expansion values of suspension at pH 7 was the lowest. Foam expansion value significantly decreased by the addition of sucrose. 2. The foam stability appeared the greatest value as protein concentration increased. It appeared the greatest value at pH 4.5. When sucrose was added, the foam stability increased. The more sucrose was added, the better foam stability was.

  • An entire function $f\;{\in}\;H(\mathbb{C})$ is called universal with respect to translations if for any $g\;{\in}\;H(\mathbb{C}),\;R\;>\;0,\;and\;{\epsilon}\;>\;0$, there is $n\;{\in}\;{\mathbb{N}}$ such that $$\mid$f(z\;+\;n)\;-\;g(z)$\mid$\;<\;{\epsilon}$ whenever $$\mid$z$\mid$\;{\leq}\;R$. Similarly, it is universal with respect to differentiation if for any g, R, and $\epsilon$, there is n such that $$\mid$f^{(n)}(z)\;-\;g(z)$\mid$\;<\;{\epsilon}\;for\;$\mid$z$\mid$\;{\leq}\;R$. In this note, we review G. MacLane's proof of the existence of universal functions with respect to differentiation, and we give a simplified proof of G. D. Birkhoff's theorem showing the existence of universal functions with respect to translation. We also discuss Godefroy and Shapiro's extension of these results to convolution operators as well as some new, related results and problems.

  • Ships and ocean structures are subjected to random loads caused by irregular waves. The irregularity of amplitude from random loading affects on fatigue crack growth and fatigue life. However the effects of irregularity of loading on fatigue including random loading have not been explained exactly. Therefore in this paper crack growth tests on DENT specimens under constant-amplitude loading including a single tensile overload are conducted to investigate the effect of overload on crack growth rate. The size of plastic zone and crack growth rate before and after a single tensile overloading are measured using ESPI system. Crack growth retardation model that is characterized by crack growth length and the size of plastic zone was proposed and compared with test result. From the research, the validity of proposed model is examined on crack growth retardation, and consequently fatigue life.

  • 20-hydroxvecdysone (20-HE) seems to be related in the regulation of vitellogenesis in Drosophifa sp. (robwta species sroup). Although yolk proteins (YPs) synthesis does not occur at a high rate in fat body cells of one daw-old female after eclosion, application of 20-HE to isolated abdomens deprived of anterior endocrine glands stimulated the synthesis and secretion of YPs into the hemolvmph. An injection of 0.3 $\mul$ of a 10-s M 20-HE was sufficient topromote synthesis and secretion of YPs in isolated abdomens. The response of isolated automens to hormones was first detected between 2 hr and 3 hr after treaDent of 10-s M 20-HE. Transcript analysis showed that the effect of 20-HE on yolk protein synthesis was mediated at the level of transcription.

  • One of the latest concepts in bonding are "total etch", in which both enamel and dentin are etched with an acid to remove the smear layers, and "wet dentin" in which the dentin is not dry but left moist before application of the bonding primer Ideally the application of a bonding agent to tooth structure should be insensitive to minor contamination from oral fluids. Clinically, contaminations such as saliva, gingival fluid, blood and handpiece lubricant are often encountered by dentists during cavity preparation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of contamination by hemostatic agents on shear bond strength of compomer restorations. One hundred and ten extracted human maxillary and mandibular molar teeth were collected. The teeth were removed soft tissue remnant and debris and stored in physiologic solution until they were used. Small flat area on dentin of the buccal surface were wet ground serially with 400, 800 and 1200 abrasive papers on automatic polishing machine. The teeth were randomly divided into 11 groups. Each group was conditioned as follows : Group 1: Dentin surface was not etched and not contaminated by hemostatic agents. Group 2: Dentin surface was not etched but was contaminated by Astringedent$^{\circledR}$(Ultradent product Inc., Utah, U.S.A.) Group 3: Dentin surface was not etched but was contaminated by Bosmin$^{\circledR}$(Jeil Pharm, Korea.). Group 4: Dentin surface was not etched but was contaminated by Epri-dent$^{\circledR}$(Epr Industries, NJ, U.S.A.). Group 5: Dentin surface was etched and not contaminated by hemostatic agents. Group 6: Dentin sorface was etched and contaminated by Astringedent$^{\circledR}$. Group 7 : Dentin surface was etched and contaminated by Bosmin$^{\circledR}$. Group 8: Dentin surface was etched and contaminated by Epri-dent$^{\circledR}$. Group 9: Dentin surface was contaminated by Astringedent$^{\circledR}$. The contaminated surface was rinsed by water and dried by compressed air. Group 10: Dentin surface was contaminated by Bosmin$^{\circledR}$. The contaminated surface was rinsed by water and dried by compressed air. Group 11 : Dentin surface was contaminated by Epri-dent$^{\circledR}$. The contaminated surface was rinsed by water and dried by compressed air. After surface conditioning, F2000$^{\circledR}$ was applicated on the conditoned dentin surface The teeth were thermocycled in distilled water at 5$^{\circ}C$ and 55$^{\circ}C$ for 1,000 cycles. The samples were placed on the binder with the bonded compomer-dentin interface parallel to the knife-edge shearing rod of the Universal Testing Machine(Zwick Z020, Zwick Co., Germany) running at a cross head speed or 1.0 mm/min. Group 2 showed significant decrease in shear bond strength compared with group 1 and group 6 showed significant decrease in shear bond strength compared with group 5. There were no significant differences in shear bond strength between group 5 and group 9, 10 and 11.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of various 3D printed denture base resins and the conventional denture base resin to various denture relining materials. Materials and Methods: For denture base materials, a heatcured (Vertex RS) and two types of 3D printed DENTCA Denture base II, NextDentTM Base) were used. And 4 types denture relining materials (Tokuyama Rebase II fast, Kooliner, Denture Liner, Denture Liner, Lang Jet Denture Repair Kit) with different components were used. It was classified into 12 groups. Adhesion was performed between the resin base and the relining materials in accordance with ISO/TS 11405 standard. The shear bonding strength was measured, and then the adhesion interface was observed with a stereoscopic microscope and a scanning electron microscope. The fracture pattern was investigated through the analysis of the fragment. Results: In the 3D printed denture resin group, the shear bonding strength with relining materials was significantly lower than that of the heat-cured resin group (P < 0.05). The group of polymethyl methacrylate -based relining materials, high shear bonding strength was shown regardless of the type of denture. As for the fracture pattern, adhesive fracture appeared in most groups, and cohesive, mixed fracture appeared in some groups. Conclusion: The polymethyl methacrylate -based denture relining materials showed high shear bonding strength values compared to other denture relining materials. But, for direct methods, it is considered advantageous in terms of shear bonding strength to use a isobutyl methacrylate-based denture relining materials.

  • The present study attempts to develop the theoretical model for the damage estimation of offshore tubular members which are subjected to the accidental impact loads due to collision, falling objects and so on. For the reasons of the simplicity of the problem being considered, however, this paper postulates that the accidental load can be approximated to be the quasi-static one, in which dynamic effects are negelcted. Based upon the theoretical and experimental results which are obtained from the present study as well as the existing literature, the load-displacement relations taking the interaction effect between the local denting and the global bending deformation into account are presented in the explicit form when the concentrated lateral load acts on the tubular member whose end condition is supposed to be rotation ally free and axially restrained, in which membrane forces develop. Thus, the practical estimation of damage deformation for the local denting and the global bending damage of tubular members against the accidental loads is possible and also the collision absorption capability of the member can be calculated by performing the integration of the area below the given load-displacement curves, provided that all the energy is dissipated to the deforming the member itself.

  • A 3D-printed resin crown is a novel option for esthetic crown restoration for primary teeth, which are typically bonded with resin cement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding ability of a 3D printing resin and compare it with other indirect resin materials for crown fabrication. The shear bond strengths of two 3D printing resin materials, Graphy (GP) and NextDent (NXT), and two indirect resin materials, VIPI Block (VIPI) and MAZIC Duro (MZ), were compared in the study. For all materials, the shear bond strength at the interface between the surface of the resin material and resin cement was measured. The mean shear bond strength values of GP, NXT, MZ, and VIPI were 23.29 ± 3.88, 26.14 ± 4.67, 25.41 ± 4.03, and 18.79 ± 4.26 MPa, respectively. There was no significant difference among the SBSs of GP, NXT and MZ except for VIPI. The result of this study indicates that the 3D printing resin meets the essential requirement for clinical use by showing clinically adequate bond strength.

  • The shot peening is largely used for a surface treatment of metallic components where small spherical pellets called shots are blasted onto the surface with velocities up to 100 m/s. This treatment leads to improvement of fatigue behavior due to the developed compressive residual stresses, and so it has gained widespread acceptance I the automobile and aerospace industries. The residual stress profile on surface layer depends on the parameters of shot peening, which are, shot velocity, shot diameter, coverage, impact angle, material properties etc. and the method to confirm this profile is the measurement by X-ray diffractometer only. Despite the importance to automobile ad aerospace industries, little attention has been devoted to the accurate modelling of the process. In this paper, the simulation technique is applied to predict the magnitude ad distribution of the residual stress and plastic deformation caused by shot peening with the help of the finite element analysis.

  • Korea Gas Corporation has operated high pressure gas transmission line of about 600 kilometers and, therefore, a series of repair welding processes are required in order to cope with external defects such as dent, gouge, cracking usually due to mechanical attacks. Most of gas pipelines repair processes are performed after completely venting remaining gas. However, in some case, though it is very unusual, repairs require without venting gas. For instance, this case is that damaged pipeline is remedied with split sleeve by welding. In this paper, in an effort to confirm a safe application of the split sleeve welding, residual stress, strain and temperature distributions are evaluated by computer simulation and experiments. The results obtained are as follows : 1) Computer modelling is supposed to be reasonable because microstructure changes due to welding is simulated coincidently as compare to that of real condition. 2) The maximal temperature on inside surface of pipeline is 50$0^{\circ}C$ for the repair welding process. 3) The amount of residual stress is estimated as the stress corresponding to 0.8% strain. 4) The repair process employed is determined to be technically preferable because of its avoiding cracks and fractures in the course of welding.
