MoJMJD6, a Nuclear Protein, Regulates Conidial Germination and Appressorium Formation at the Early Stage of Pathogenesis in Magnaporthe oryzae

  • In plant-pathogen interactions, Magnaporthe oryzae causes blast disease on more than 50 species of 14 monocot plants, including important crops such as rice, millet, and most 15 recently wheat. M. oryzae is a model fungus for studying plant-microbe interaction, and the main source for fungal pathogenesis in the field. Here we report that MoJMJD6 is required for conidium germination and appressorium formation in M. oryzae. We obtained MoJMJD6 mutants (ΔMojmjd6) using a target gene replacement strategy. The MoJMD6 deletion mutants were delayed for conidium germination, glycogen, and lipid droplets utilization and consequently had decreased virulence. In the ΔMojmjd6 null mutants, global histone methyltransferase modifications (H3K4me3, H3K9me3, H3K27me3, and H3K36me2/3) of the genome were unaffected. Taken together, our results indicated that MoJMJD6 function as a nuclear protein which plays an important role in conidium germination and appressorium formation in the M. oryzae. Our work provides insights into MoJMJD6-mediated regulation in the early stage of pathogenesis in plant fungi.

  • The 10t/d pyrolysis demonstration plant have been developed for waste tire recycling treatment and value added commercialization. The initial plant model had been started under 2.4t/d capacity with continuous operation, and the commercial plant has been achieved to the 120t/d based on demonstration plant having the tube reactor with chain conveyer attached disk. The next generation pyrolysis plant for waste tire is reviewed and the assignment for plant development is presented briefly.

  • HANJUNG has developed demonstration plant treating combustion flue gas such as dioxide($SO_2$) and nitrogen oxides(NOx). Before operating this system, we tested the inner airflow characteristic of demonstration plant in the front of plasma reactor field 1 and field 2. The experimental results of $25,000Nm^3/hr$ airflow are compared with the computational results using FLUENT code. It is found that the velocity distribution trends are matched the experimental results with the calculation results. To improve the eccentric airflow in the inlet hood, it is necessary to install the vertical guide vane as well as the horizontal guide vane.

  • The 10t/d pyrolysis demonstration plant for waste tire recycling have been constructed and operated for commissioning of the plant. The plant have the tube reactor with chain conveyer attached disk. The reactor temperature is 500$\sim$600deg.C and pressure is -80$\sim$-100mmHg. Non-condensable gas is used as fuel for pyrolysis heat source.

  • 본 논문에서는 국내 원자력발전소 초음파검사자 기량검증시험 결과를 검토하였다. 원자력발전소 안전관련 설비에 대한 초음파검사 기량검증 요건은 ASME B&PV Code Section XI 1989 겨울 부록에서 최초로 언급되었다. 한국수력원자력(주)은 ASME Code Section XI, Appendix VIII의 요건 적용을 위해 국내 원자력발전소에 적합한 한국형 초음파검사 기량검증(KPD) 시스템을 개발, 규제기관의 승인을 받아 2004년 7월부터 운영하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 2004년부터 2013년까지 수행한 초음파검사자 기량검증시험 결과의 검토 내용으로 초음파검사 결함 검출 향상 및 기량훈련시스템 연구 개발에 도움을 줄 것으로 기대한다.

The effects of plant extracts on lipid metabolism of chickens - A review

  • The fat deposition is an important factor affecting chicken meat quality, which is closely related to lipid metabolism of chickens. Therefore, it is important to regulate the lipid metabolism of chickens to improve the chicken meat quality. Plant extracts have special regulatory effects on animal's growth and health and have been widely used in chicken breeding. Some plant extracts have been reported to have functions of changing the fatty acid composition, reducing abdominal fat percentage, and enhancing the intramuscular fat content of chickens by improving the antioxidant capacity, regulating the expression of genes, enzymes, and signaling pathways related to lipid metabolism, modulating intestinal microbiota, affecting hormones level, and regulating DNA methylation. This paper reviewed the application and mechanism of plant extracts on regulating lipid metabolism of chickens to provide a reference for the further application of plant extracts in chicken breeding.

KIER의 열분해유화 공정 기술과 실증플랜트 소개 (Introduction of KIER Pyrolysis Process and 3,000 ton/yr Demonstration Plant)

  • Since late of 2000, KIER has developed a novel pyrolysis process for production of fuel oils from polymer wastes. It could have been possible due to large-scale funding of the Resource Recycling R&D Center. The target was to develop an uncatalyzed, continuous and automatic process producing oils that can be used as a fuel for small-scale industrial boilers. The process development has proceeded in three stages bench-scale unit, pilot plant and demonstration plant. As a result, the demonstration plant having capacity of 3,000 tons/year has been constructed and is currently under test operation for optimization of operation conditions. The process consisted of four parts ; feeding system, cracking reactor, refining system and others. Raw materials were pretreated via shredding and classifying to remove minerals, water, etc. There were 3 kind of products, oils(80%), gas(15%), carbonic residue(5%). The main products i.e. oils were gasoline and diesel. The calorific value of gas has been found to be about 18,000kcal/$m^3$ which is similar to petroleum gas and shows that it could be used as a process fuel. Key technologies adopted in the process are 1) Recirculation of feed for rapid melting and enhancement of fluidity for automatic control of system, 2) Tubular reactor specially-designed for heavy heat flux and prevention of coking, 3)Recirculation of heavy fraction for prevention of wax formation, and 4) continuous removal & re-reaction of sludge for high yield of main product (oil) and minimization of residue. The advantages of the process are full automation, continuous operation, no requirement of catalyst, minimization of coking and sludge problems, maximizing the product(fuel oil) yield and purity, low initial investment and operation costs and environment- friendly process. In this presentation, background of pyrolysis technology development, the details of KIER pyrolysis process flow, key technologies and the performances of the process will be discussed in detail.

원자력발전소 배관 용접부 위상배열 초음파검사 절차서 개발 및 기량검증 (Procedure Development and Qualification of the Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing for the Nuclear Power Plant Piping Weld)

  • 원자력발전소 배관 용접부에 대한 수동 초음파검사는 KPD(Korean Performance Demonstration)의 일반 절차서를 사용하여 기량 검증을 인정받고 있으나, 자동 초음파검사의 경우에는 일반 절차서가 없으며 해당 자동 검사 장비를 이용하여 절차서 기량 검증을 받아야 한다. 현재까지 국내에서 수행되고 있는 자동 초음파검사에 대한 절차서 기량검증은 대부분 펄스-반사기법을 적용한 절차서이나, 최근에 각광받고 있는 위상배열 초음파검사 기법을 이용한 절차서 기량검증은 국내에서 시행된 사례가 전무하다. 본 연구에서는 원자력발전소 가동중검사에 위상배열 초음파검사 기법을 적용하기 위하여 위상배열 초음파 신호취득 및 평가 소프트웨어를 개발하고 위상배열 초음파 탐촉자 및 웨지를 설계 하였다. 개발된 절차서에 대하여 결함 검출, 길이 및 크기 측정에 대한 기량검증을 수행하였으며, 검증된 위상배열 초음파탐상검사 절차서는 향후 원자력발전소 배관 용접부 검사에 적용할 예정이다.

  • Dimethyl ether (DME) is a new clean fuel as an environmentally-benign energy resource. DME can be manufactured from various energy sources including natural gas, coal, and biomass. In addition to its environmentally friendly properties, DME has similar characteristics to those of LPG. The aim of this article is to represent the development of new DME process with KOGAS's own technologies. KOGAS has investigated and developed new innovative DME synthesis process from synthesis gas in gaseous phase fixed bed reactor. DME has been traditionally produced by the dehydration of methanol which is produced from syngas, a product of natural gas reforming. This traditional process is thus called the two-step method of preparing DME. However, DME can also be manufactured directly from syngas (single-step). The single-step method needs only one reactor for the synthesis of DME, instead of two for the two-step process. It can also alleviate the thermodynamic limitations associated with the synthesis of methanol, by converting the produced methanol into DME, thereby potentially enhancing the overall conversion of syngas into DME. KOGAS had launched the 10 ton/day DME demonstration plant project in 2004 at Incheon KOGAS LNG terminal. In the mid of 2008, KOGAS had finished the construction of this plant and has successively finished the demonstration plant operation. And since 2008, we have established the basic design of commercial plant which can produce 3,000 ton/day DME.

Study of Lower Hybrid Current Drive for the Demonstration Reactor

  • Steady-state operation of a fusion power plant requires external current drive to minimize the power requirements, and a high fraction of bootstrap current is required. One of the external sources for current drive is lower hybrid current drive, which has been widely applied in many tokamaks. Here, using lower hybrid simulation code, we calculate electron distribution function, electron currents and phase velocity changes for two options of demonstration reactor at the launched lower hybrid wave frequency 5 GHz. Two plasma scenarios pertaining to two different demonstration reactor options, known as pulsed (Option 1) and steady-state (Option 2) models, have been analyzed. We perceive that electron currents have major peaks near the edge of plasma for both options but with higher efficiency for Option 1, although we have access to wider, more peripheral regions for Option 2. Regarding the electron distribution function, major perturbations are at positive velocities for both options for flux surface 16 and at negative velocities for both options for flux surface 64.
