A Study on the Living Environment of the Residents of the Dementia Care Village

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the needs for environmental improvement and dementia patients' activity of daily living (ADL) and behavior and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) in dementia patients living in urban type dementia care villages. The subjects of this study were 70 households with cognitive impairment and dementia among residents of dementia care village in Gunsan City. The survey was conducted with the permission of their family. Frequency analysis and descriptive statistical analysis were performed on the main variables to analyze the characteristics of the subjects. Bivariate correlation analysis was performed to verify the relationship between the two variables. According to the analysis results, the order of environment improvement was in the order of entrance (51.4%), toilet and stairs (48.6%), kitchen (11.4%), bedroom and laundry room (10.0%). In the relationship between the variables, The ADL was correlated with age (r=.315, p <.01), BPSD (r=.322, p<.01) and living environment inconvenience (r=.640, p<.01) while, living environment inconvenience correlated with environment improvement need (r=.669, p<.01). This study suggests that improvement of the residential environment of dwellers in dementia care villages, especially the stairway and entrance hall is necessary.

치매안심센터 기능에 대한 작업치료 전공 학생들의 인식 수준 조사 (Research for Recognition Levels of Students in Occupational Therapy on the Function of the Dementia Care Center)

  • 본 연구는 치매안심센터 기능에 대한 작업치료 전공 학생들의 인식 수준과 일반적 특성에 따른 인식 수준의 차이에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 2019년 9월부터 12월까지 작업치료 전공 학생들을 대상으로 치매안심센터의 7개 사업유형별 기능에 대한 인식 수준에 대해 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 치매안심센터의 7개 사업유형 중 상담 및 등록관리사업에 대한 인식 수준이 가장 높았다. 작업치료 전공 학생들의 일반적 특성 중 연령에 따라 7개의 치매안심센터 사업유형 모두 인식 수준의 유의한 차이를 보였으며, 학년의 경우, 방문형 모델을 제외한 6개의 치매안심센터 사업유형에 대한 인식 수준에서 유의한 차이를 보였다. 지역은 치매환자 쉼터 운영사업과 치매가족 지원사업에 대한 인식 수준에서 유의한 차이를 보였다. 또한, 치매안심센터 이용경험 유무에 따라 치매안심마을 운영에 대한 인식 수준의 유의한 차이가 나타났으며, 치매안심센터 임상실습 경험 여부에 따라 상담 및 등록관리사업, 치매가족 지원사업, 치매안심마을 운영에 대한 인식 수준에 유의한 차이가 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 지역사회 작업치료 분야의 연구를 위한 기초자료를 제공하고 작업치료 전공 관련 교육기반 마련에 도움이 되었으면 한다.

"우리마을 예쁜치매쉼터" 운영에 관한 사례연구; 일 개도의 지역특화사업 중심 (A Case Study on the Appealing Dementia Rest Area in Our Village for Regional Specialization Province in Gyeongsangbuk-do)

  • Purpose: This study undertook to qualitatively investigate the operation status, support requirements and improvement plans for establishing an appealing dementia rest area in Gyeongsankbuk-do. Methods: Data were collected from May 1 to June 20, 2019, using participation observation and in-depth interview of 8 health professionals, and were subjected to qualitative analysis. Results: Our analysis revealed 4 themes and encompassing 16sub-themes: 1) program operation status (hard to prepare and operate programs, difficulty adjusting the program level, various needs of program participants, lack of mutual understanding among program participants); 2) policy support needs (need for assistants staff and basic education, requirement of extensive training for the main operators, support program aid equipment, incentive payments and performance reflections); 3) project operation's improvement plan (improved the operation of doubles classes, improved of training materials for the main operators, improved program activities and workbooks, Increasing the number of dementia rest areas); 4) positive effects and changes (positive effects of specialized projects, changes in perceptions of dementia, strengthening community awareness through doubles classes, synergy effect on community health care post awareness) Conclusion: We believe the current study results can be applied as basic data for establishing a new model, and will positively impact the national dementia management project.
