A Study on the DR program operation method based on the pattern analysis (사용량 패턴분석을 통한 패턴분석 DR 프로그램 운영방안에 대한 연구)

  • Recently the stable electric power supply is threaten by the rapid development of all the industries consuming a lot of electric power, thus KEPCO is trying to establish the countermeasures to cope with this circumstance of uprising power consumption by running the efficient and flexible 12-month s price policy for the base price and raisin the electric power price remarkably in peak power consumption period to suppress the maximal power demand of consumers. To resolve these problems, this study propose the method calculating hourly CBL based on the hourly amount at non-event using the pattern of the amount of power consumption and propose the operation method of DR Program.

Estimation of Freight Trip Generation Rates based on Commodity Flow Survey in Korea

  • In Korea, almost 700 industrial parks are under operation. Generally, industrial parks consist of national industrial parks and local industrial parks which are managed by a central government and by local governments respectively. The developing countries such as Korea, China and Vietnam etc. have constructed many industrial parks, which result in the change of land use pattern and also affect future trip demands. Therefore, in estimating traffic demands, it is very important to consider the industrial park development. This study aims to improve the methodology in estimating a freight trip generation rate with the data based on a nationwide commodity freight survey. The result showed that it is desirable to apply freight trip generation rate by the industry sector in estimating freight trip generations and using the production area of firm as an indicator. Specially, the reliability of the rates through a survey could be made sure because a sample rate based on firms in industrial parks was over 25% and the response rate was over 67%. The sample rate and response rate are very superior as compared to surveys conducted in many other countries. Because industrial parks have significant effects on forecasting transportation demand in pre-feasibility studies of transport and logistics projects, it is expected that the accuracy of freight trip demands would be improved through the results of this study.

  • 본 연구에서는 신 수요관리 기법인 DR(Demand Response)시스템의 개발 및 운영현황을 알아 보았다. 특히 DR 시스템의 구성 방안과 각 모듈들의 설계시 검토 및 요구 사항을 분석하였다. 그리고 공급자와 수요자를 잇는 네트워크는 국가전력 IT과제에서 Portal의 개념을 도입하여 CP(Consumer Portal) 및 DP(Device Portal)에 의한 채널의 표준화를 시도하고 있다. DR의 개념은 수요관리와 가격 응답으로 공급자의 관리 기능과 가격 또는 인센티브 등이 제공되는 수요자가 참여하는 서비스의 양면을 가지고 있다. 이와 같은 시스템이 개발될 경우에는 전력사와 소비자 사이의 양방향 통신 채널이 형성되고 따라서 실시간 수요의 측정이 가능해진다. 또한 이를 토대로 DR 시스템을 사전 검토 및 계획상의 문제점을 분석하여 한국형 DR 시스템의 개발에 대한 기반을 조성하고자 하였다.

DP Formulation of Microgrid Operation with Heat and Electricity Constraints

  • Microgrids (MGs) are typically comprised of distributed generators (DGs) including renewable energy sources (RESs), storage devices and controllable loads, which can operate in either interconnected or isolated mode from the main distribution grid. This paper introduces a novel dynamic programming (DP) approach to MG optimization which takes into consideration the coordination of energy supply in terms of heat and electricity. The DP method has been applied successfully to several cases in power system operations. In this paper, a special emphasis is placed on the uncontrollability of RESs, the constraints of DGs, and the application of demand response (DR) programs such as directed load control (DLC), interruptible/curtaillable (I/C) service, and/or demand-side bidding (DSB) in the deregulated market. Finally, in order to illustrate the optimization results, this approach is applied to a couple of examples of MGs in a certain configuration. The results also show the maximum profit that can be achieved.

On-Line Monitoring of Low Biochemical Oxygen Demand Through Continuous Operation of a Mediator-Less Microbial Fuel Cell

  • Abstract Oligotrophic microbial fuel cells (MFCs) were tested for the continuous monitoring of low biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) by using artificial wastewater, containing glucose and glutamate, as check solution. Ten times diluted trace mineral solution was used to minimize the background current level, which is generated from the oxidation of nitrilotriacetate used as a chelating agent. The feeding rate of 0.53 ml/min could increase the sensitivity from 0.16 to 0.43 ${\mu}$A/(mg BOD/l) at 0.15 ml/min. The dynamic linear range of the calibration curve was between 2.0 and 10.0 mg BOD/l, and the response time to the change of 2 mg BOD/l was about 60 min. The current signal from an oligotroph-type MFCs increased with the increase in salts concentration, and the salt effect could be eliminated by 50 mM phosphate buffer.

  • The concept known as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) is to provide power to help balance loads by charging at night when demand is low and sending power to the grid when demand is high. Therefore, it is important to model the cost-benefit characteristics of Electric vehicle(EV)'s operation considering the negawatt market in real time. This paper proposes a methodology to formulate the various costs and economic benefits for sending the EV's power back to the grid, including a concept of inconvenience costs caused by operating the EV as a battery. This paper also introduces the general decision-making process based on the cost-benefit analysis in order to simulate the reasonable participation of V2G service. In the case study, it is confirmed by two-case simulations that the proposed approach is useful to help EV owners' decision-making. In the future, it is expected that the proposed methodology can be used as a decision-making guideline to help prepare the EV' power transmission.

  • IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) plants are among the most advanced and effective systems for electric energy generation. From a control perspective, IGCC plants represent a significant challenge: complex reactions, highly integrated control to simultaneously satisfy production, controllability, operability and environmental objectives. While all these requirements seem clearly to demand a multivatiable, model predictive approach, not many applications can be easily found in the literature. This paper describes the IGCC dynamic simulation that is capable of simulating plant startup, shutdown, normal, and abnormal operation and engineering studies. This high fidelity dynamic models contain the detailed process design data to produce realistic responses to process operation and upset. And the simulation is used by engineers to evaluate the transient performance and produce graphical information indicating the response of the process under study conditions.

  • Recently, electricity consumption has rapidly increased along with economic growth. The operating strategy using emergency generator is aimed, to resolve a demand response management. For strategy of peak shedding using emergency generator, it is essential to introduce the fast transfer switching device. One of the most effective solutions is to use a static transfer switch (STS) based on thyristor. However, the characteristic of natural commutated SCR thyristor should anticipate short duration voltage sag. STS system thus requires more than a quarter cycle to successfully complete transfer process. This paper proposes the operation scheme of the STS system using the forced-commutation technique to mitigate instantaneous voltage sag during peak transfer process. Proposed STS system improved turn-off characteristic thus accomplishes the peak load shedding satisfied power quality. Performance of the proposed STS system is evaluated using electromagnetic transient program (EMTP) to confirm the effectiveness.

  • When controling combustion air flow in coal fired power plant the furnace safety must be considered first prior to plant efficiency. therefore it is very important to set air flow demand exactly for safe operation and maintenance. This paper analyze air flow control loop in power plant and introduce the method to improve dynamic response time. Simulation result shows this scheme is adoptable and provide better performance.

  • The demand of LNG in Korea has dramatically increased since it was first imported in 1986. Thus, more LNG storage tanks are required to meet the growing consumption of LNG. However the design, construction, and analysis of LNG storage facility need highly advanced technology compared to the general structures due to the fluid-structure interaction and the low temperature of LNG. Recently Korea Gas Corporation(KOGAS) constructed a pilot LNG storage tank, and it is in operation to develop and accumulate the core technology. As a part of those objects, the fundamental dynamic test for the pilot tank were performed. For this study, dynamic test were carried out and the dynamic characteristics of the pilot tank were verified and analyzed.
