This study presents the relationship between the height of the chair and the force of deltoid muscle for pianist. The subject simulated playing the piano on the three different heights of the chairs. Digital camera was used to determine the angle of the joint of shoulder and elbow for 2-dimensional static link segment modeling in the sagittal plane. The deltoid, biceps and triceps muscles were considered to determine the muscle load. The results, compared to the force of deltoid muscle, are that the downward position of the higher chair produces significantly large force than the other two lower chairs. It can be caused by hunched shoulder with decreasing deltoid angle. In case of the upward position caused by the lower chair, even though the smallest force of deltoid presented, it was increased the force of elbow.

This study aimed to analyze the coordination of muscle and muscle fatigue between biceps, lateral deltoid, and anterior deltoid during dumbbell side lateral raise using bio-signal. One male subject performed dumbbell side lateral raise with 3% of 1RM dumbbell at the rate of 30bpm until failure (8 minutes). While performing, ECG were recorded to observe the participant's performance. EMG were recorded from biceps, lateral deltoid, and anterior deltoid for observing coordination and fatigue. ECG were analyzed in time and frequency domain to observe Heart rate, normLF, normHF. Changes in heart rate, normLF, and normHF indicate that the sympathetic nervous system is activated, while changes in median frequency (MDF) indicate the occurrence of muscle fatigue. Moreover, the coordination relationship of muscle changed. The correlation of MDF between each muscles indicated that lateral deltoid is associated with biceps and anterior deltoid. These results showed that our study can contribute to improving understanding of muscle fatigue and muscle coordination relationships.
J. R. PARK. The Analysis of Electrimyography and Kinematic of Kumdo Player's Head Hitting. Korean Journal of Sport Biomechanics, Vol. 15, No. 1, pp. 63-74, 2005. The purpose of this study were to describe and compare the selected electromyographical muscle activities of arm and kinematic data of kumdo player's head hitting. Using surface electrode electromyography, we evaluated muscle activity in 6 male players during head hitting motion. Surface electrodes were used to record the level of muscle activity in the carpi radialis, deltoid, triceps, biceps muscles during the player's head hitting. These signals were compared with %RVC(Reference voluntary contraction) which was normalized by IEMG(Integrated EMG). The kumdo head hitting motion was divided into two phases: back swing, down swing. we observed patterns of arm muscle activity throughout two phases of the kumdo head hiting The results can be summarized as follows: right elbow angle had decreased and left deltoid muscle's activation had higher than right deltoid muscle's activation, right carpi radialis muscle's activation had higher than left carpi radialis muscle's activation in back swing phase, knee angle had decreased and left triceps muscle's activation had higher than right triceps muscle's activation, right deltoid muscle's activation had higher than left deltoid muscle's activation, right carpi radialis muscle's activation had higher than left carpi radialis muscle's activation in down swing phase

Background: Based on the understanding of the muscle activation relationship between the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid muscles to according to the angle of motion during external rotation on glenohumeral joint, effective shoulder joint strengthening exercise for the prevention and rehabilitation of shoulder injury due to muscle strength imbalance can be performed by achieving the ideal muscle activity ratio during exercise. Objectives: To compare and analyze the muscle activation changes and activity ratio of the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid muscles according to the glenohumeral external rotation angle. Design: Quasi-randomized trial. Methods: The study included 48 healthy male and female adults who provided informed consent for participation in the study. All the subjects performed isometric glenohumeral external rotation by setting the angle of motion to 30°, 45°, and 60° using a 5 kg resistance weight pulley. On surface electromyography, the differences in muscle activation and activity ratio between the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid muscles were investigated. Results: A significant difference in muscle activation was found in the comparison between the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid muscles according to the glenohumeral external rotation angle (P<.05). The muscle activation levels of the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid muscles were highest at the external rotation angles of 30° and 60°, respectively. The muscle activity ratio between the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid muscles also showed a significant difference (P<.05) and was highest at the shoulder external rotation angle of 30°. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that muscle activity is the highest at the shoulder external rotation angle of 30° in healthy individuals.

PURPOSE: This study was to investigate the effect of applying neck flexion during elbow flexion exercise on muscle activity of the biceps brachii, the anterior deltoid and the sternocleidomastoid (SCM). METHODS: Twenty healthy adults participated in this study. The subjects measured %MVIC (Maximal volumetric control) and collected the maximum electromyography (EMG) values in the biceps brachii, anterior deltoid, SCM. The first action was to sit in a sitting position with the eyes facing front and maintained the weight of each section by performing elbow flexion using a tension gauge. The second action was to sit in a sitting position with the head down and maintained the weight of each section by performing elbow flexion using a tension gauge. Paired T-test was used for comparison of the before-and-after neck flexion to analyze the muscle activity of the Biceps brachii of next flexion and extension, the SCM, and the Anterior deltoid during elbow flexion exercise. The Repeated measured ANOVA was used for comparing %MVIC in each muscle. The significance level (?) was set at .05. RESULTS: Neck flexion during elbow flexion increased the muscle activity of the Biceps brachii and Anterior Deltoid muscle in the maximal muscle strength 50 ~ 60%, 70 ~ 80% and decreased the muscle activity of the SCM (p < .05). CONCLUSION: The applic has been confirmed to reduce the mobilization of the SCM and increase the mobilization of the Biceps brachii and Anterior Deltoid to increase the mobilization. Therefore, it seems effective to apply neck flexion when elbow flexion exercise.

Shoulder pain, injury and discomfort are public health and economic issues world-wide. The function of these joints and the stresses developed during their movement is a major concern to the orthopedic surgeon to study precisely the injury mechanisms and thereby analyze the post-operative progress of the injury. Shoulder is one of the most critical joints in the human anatomy with maximum degrees of freedom. It mainly consists of the clavicle, scapula and humerus; the articulations linking them; and the muscles that move them. In order to understand the behavior of individual muscle during abduction arm movement, an attempt has been made to analyze the stresses developed in the shoulder muscles during abduction arm movement during the full range of motion by using the 3D FEM model. 3D scanning (ATOS III scanner) is used for the 3D shoulder joint cad model generation in CATIA V5. Muscles are added and then exported to the ANSYS APDL solver for stress analysis. Sensitivity Analysis is done for stress and strain behavior amongst different shoulder muscles; deltoid, supraspinatus, teres minor, infraspinatus, and subscapularies during adduction arm movement. During the individual deltoid muscle analysis, the von Mises stresses induced in deltoid muscle was maximum (4.2175 MPa) and in group muscle analysis it was (2.4127MPa) compared to other individual four rotor cuff muscles. The study confirmed that deltoid muscle is more sensitive muscle for the abduction arm movement during individual and group muscle analysis. The present work provides in depth information to the researchers and orthopedicians for the better understanding about the shoulder mechanism and the most stressed muscle during the abduction arm movement at different ROM. So during rehabilitation, the orthopedicians should focus on strengthening the deltoid muscles at earliest.
Purpose: This study sought to compare the muscle activity of the deltoid muscle according to the range of motion during the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) upper extremity D2 pattern exercise performed with an isokinetic exercise device. The aim was to provide basic data for selecting an exercise for the relevant segment of the range of motion to enhance function in clinical practice. Methods: In this study, the relevant measurements of the anterior and middle trapezius of 25 healthy adults were taken using a surface electromyography system. The upper extremity pattern exercise was performed in three ranges (0% to 50%, 50% to 100%, and 25% to 75%) using the upper extremity isokinetic device. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the muscle activity ratios of the anterior and middle deltoid muscles according to the measurement conditions (p<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the activity ratio of the middle deltoid muscle according to the measurement conditions in the ratio from the start range to the end range (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in the muscle onset time difference according to the measurement conditions (p>0.05). Conclusion: The muscle activity of the anterior and middle deltoid muscles was analyzed according to the range of motion during the PNF upper extremity pattern exercise performed with an isokinetic device. The results could be used as a basis for selecting exercises for the relevant segment of the range of motion according to the function to be emphasized.

In comparison of change of %RVC, Tthere were meaningful differences in anterior deltoid, posterior deltoid and infraspinatus in comparing a change of %RVC within experimental group II (p<0.05)(p<0.01) (p<0.001), and there were meaningful differences in both supraspinatus and infraspinatus in muscle thickness within experimental group II (p<0.001). In comparison of change of %RVC between groups, Tthere was a meaningful difference in only posterior deltoid in comparing a change of %RVC between groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: We found that exercise therapy using grasping has a positive effect on shoulder stability muscles such as supraspinatus muscle and infraspinatus muscle and activity of deltoid muscle.
The purpose of this study was to compare the changes of muscle activities in deltoid with those in supraspinatus using electromyography(EMG) while subjects abducted their shoulder to different angles with different resistance. Methods : 20 volunteers who were comprised of 10 males(mean age: $21.2{\pm}2.0$) and 10 females(mean age: $20.2{\pm}1.6$) were collected. Surface electrodes were attached on deltoid and supraspinatus muscle for recording. Each reference electrode was located 3 cm to the each recording electrode. Muscle action potentials were recorded with changing the angle of shoulder abduction, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$. This procedure was repeated with different resistance 0 pound, 2 pounds, 4.5pounds. The angle of shoulder abduction was determined by clinical goniometer. SPSS(Statistical Program for Social Science)/WIN 10.0 was used for statistics. Analysis included ANOVA, T-test. Results : The following results were obtained in this study. 1. There was significant differences during isometric shoulder abduction $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$ comparing muscle activity in deltoid and supraspinatus muscles at 0 pound, 2pound, 4.5pound resistance(p<0.05). 2. There was no useful significant in the deltoid and supraspinatus muscles activity EMG compared by physical condition. 3. Their was significant in the deltoid EMG compared by gender t=-5.41, P<0.01, but no difference in the supraspinatus EMG(P=0.333 >a=0.05). Conclusions: There are many previous studies on influence of shoulder angles and speeds of muscle activity. However most of them placed the focus on isotonic or isokinetic exercise, or shoulder function. But this study was done during isometric exercise, which is better for early assessment and treatment for injured patients. There is strong relationship between the shoulder angle with resistance in deltoid supraspinatus muscle activity. We conclude that it is important to apply isometric shoulder abduction exercise with correct angle and resistance especially in early stage.
