Decision of Optimum Cycle of Traffic Junction Vehicle Signal Control using Fuzzy Identification Algorithm (퍼지 동정 알고리즘을 이용한 교차로 교통 신호등 제어의 최적 주기 결정)

  • In this paper, noticing the point of human's ability which appropriately cope with vague conditions, we design fuzzy traffic signal light controller similar to human's distinction ability and decide the optimum cycle most suited to any traffic junction using fuzzy identification algorithm. In this study, for the control output decision process we design fuzzy controller better than electronic vehicle actuated controller in performance. We propose the cycle decision method which is not limited by the variance of traffic junction vehicle number through overcoming the limit of Webster's method which is adopted by the fixed cycle controller. Simulated experimental results show that fuzzy controller and fuzzy identification algorithm are better than the existing electronic vehicle actuated controller and fixed cycle controller in delay time per vehicle.

  • Ultra-wideband (UWB) ranging poses a set of time delay estimation problems for designers. The possibility of a large error can be a challenging problem for accurate ranging and positioning. An approximate analysis of large error performance of UWB ranging in multipath and multiuser environments is posed. Both analytical and experimental approaches are taken to evaluate the large error variance in a correlation-based serial search scenario.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy adaptive controller is proposed for the process with large delay time and unmodelled dynamics. The fuzzy adaptive controller consists of self tuning controller and fuzzy tuning part. The self tuning controller is designed with the continuous time GMV (generalized minimum variance) using emulator and weighted least square method. It is realized by the hybrid method. The controller has robust characteristics by adapting the inference rule in design parameters. The inference processing is tuned according to the operating point of the process having the nonlinear characteristics considering the practical application. We review the characteristics of the fuzzy adaptive controller through the simulation. The controller is applied to practical electric furnace. As a result, the fuzzy adaptive controller shows the better characteristics than the simple numeric self tuning controller and the PI controller.

  • We propose a new frequency offset estimation technique for multiband orthogonal frequency modulation (MB-OFDM) based ultra wideband (UWB) systems. The proposed frequency offset estimation technique is related to the scheme of Schmidl for channel model 1 (4-1Om NLOS, rms. delay =14.3ns.) using more than two symbols and with alternate symbols. Variance of frequency offset estimate obtained from the proposed frequency offset estimation technique approaches very nearing to Cramer Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) in an AWGN channel. BER performance of the proposed technique is also presented.

  • Ultrasonic thickness measurement is a non-destructive method to measure the local thickness of a solid element, based on the time taken for an ultrasound wave to return to the surface. When an element is very thin, it is difficult to measure thickness with the conventional ultrasonic thickness method. This is because the method measures the time delay by using the peak of a pulse, and the pulses overlap. To solve this problem, we propose a method for measuring thickness by using the power cepstrum and the minimum variance cepstrum. Because the cepstrums processing can divides the ultrasound into an impulse train and transfer function, where the period of the impulse train is the traversal time, the thickness can be measured exactly. To verify the proposed method, we performed experiments with steel and, acrylic plates of variable thickness. The conventional method is not able to estimate the thickness, because of the overlapping pulses. However, the cepstrum ultrasonic signal processing that divides a pulse into an impulse and a transfer function can measure the thickness exactly.

Scanning Worm Detection Algorithm Using Network Traffic Analysis (네트워크 트래픽 특성 분석을 통한 스캐닝 웜 탐지 기법)

  • Scanning worm increases network traffic load and result in severe network congestion because it is a self-replicating worm and send copies of itself to a number of hosts through the Internet. So an early detection system which can automatically detect scanning worms is needed to protect network from those attacks. Although many studies are conducted to detect scanning worms, most of them are focusing on the method using packet header information. The method using packet header information has long detection delay since it must examine the header information of all packets entering or leaving the network. Therefore we propose an algorithm to detect scanning worms using network traffic characteristics such as variance of traffic volume, differentiated traffic volume, mean of differentiated traffic volume, and product of mean traffic volume and mean of differentiated traffic volume. We verified the proposed algorithm by analyzing the normal traffic captured in the real network and the worm traffic generated by simulator. The proposed algorithm can detect CodeRed and Slammer which are not detected by existing algorithm. In addition, all worms were detected in early stage: Slammer was detected in 4 seconds and CodeRed and Witty were detected in 11 seconds.

  • IEEE 802.11e proposed by IEEE 802.11 working group to guarantee QoS has contention based EDCA and contention free based HCCA. HCCA, a centralized polling based mechanism of 802.11e, needs a scheduling algorithm to allocate the network resource efficiently. The existing standard scheduler, however, is inefficient to support for QoS guarantee for real-time service having VBR traffic. To improve these limit, in this paper, we First, we propose priority polling algorithm which additionally considers the size of MSI and TXOP based on EDD algorithm to increase number of QSTAs. We also propose a dual token bucket TXOP allocation algorithm to reduce congestion caused by stations which enters network with considerable delay variance. TSPEC parameters, Maximum Burst Size (MBS) and Peak Data Rate (PR), are applied to design depth and token generation rate of two buckets. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has much higher performance compared with reference and SETT-EDD scheduler in terms of throughput and delay.

Educational Levels and Delays in Start of Treatment for Head and Neck Cancers in North-East India

  • Background: There are various patient and professional factors responsible for the delay in start of treatment (SOT) for head and neck cancers (HNC). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on data for HNC patients registered at the hospital cancer registry in North-East India. All cases diagnosed during the period of January 2010 to December 2012 were considered for the present analysis. Educational levels of all patients were clustered into 3 groups; illiterates (unable to read or write), qualified (school or high school level education), and highly qualified (college and above). Results: In the present analysis 1066 (34.6%) patients were illiterates, 1,869 (60.6%) patients were literates and 145 (4.7%) of all patients with HNC were highly qualified. The stage at diagnosis were stage I, seen in 62 (34.6%), stage II in 393 (12.8%), stage III in 1,371 (44.5%) and stage IV in 1,254 (40.7%). The median time (MT) to the SOT from date of attending cancer hospital (DOACH) was, in illiterate group MT was 18 days, whereas in the qualified group of patients it was 15 days and in the highly qualified group was 10 days. Analysis of variance showed there was a significant difference on the mean time for the delay in SOT from DOACH for different educational levels (F=9.923, p=0.000). Conclusions: Educational level is a patient related factor in the delays for the SOT in HNCs in our population.

(N, n)-Preemptive Repeat-Different Priority Queues ((N, n)-선점 재샘플링-반복 우선순위 대기행렬)

  • Priority disciplines are an important scheme for service systems to differentiate their services for different classes of customers. (N, n)-preemptive priority disciplines enable system engineers to fine-tune the performances of different classes of customers arriving to the system. Due to this virtue of controllability, (N, n)-preemptive priority queueing models can be applied to various types of systems in which the service performances of different classes of customers need to be adjusted for a complex objective. In this paper, we extend the existing (N, n)-preemptive resume and (N, n)-preemptive repeat-identical priority queueing models to the (N, n)-preemptive repeat-different priority queueing model. We derive the queue-length distributions in the M/G/1 queueing model with two classes of customers, under the (N, n)-preemptive repeat-different priority discipline. In order to derive the queue-length distributions, we employ an analysis of the effective service time of a low-priority customer, a delay cycle analysis, and a joint transformation method. We then derive the first and second moments of the queue lengths of high- and low-priority customers. We also present a numerical example for the first and second moments of the queue length of high- and low-priority customers. Through doing this, we show that, under the (N, n)-preemptive repeat-different priority discipline, the first and second moments of customers with high priority are bounded by some upper bounds, regardless of the service characteristics of customers with low priority. This property may help system engineers design such service systems that guarantee the mean and variance of delay for primary users under a certain bounds, when preempted services have to be restarted with another service time resampled from the same service time distribution.

Evaluate Utility of Thyroid Incidentaloma Discrimination by $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT Delay Scan Images ($^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT검사에서 지연영상을 이용한 갑상선 우연종 감별의 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the degree of malignancy of incident thyroid lesion found in $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT findings and the usefulness of the method suggested in this study, we applicate the Delay Scan Method that differentiate a false positive benign tumor, inflammation and malignancy, as well as make the criteria of SUV. Materials and Methods: A retrograde study was conducted of 800 patients who were admitted in E hospital to receive $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT examination. One patient who was diagnosed as primary thyroid cancer and received $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT examination was excluded. The number of final patients of this study was 799, the reasons of $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT examination of these patients were follow-up of old cancer or suspicious tumorous lesion in 696 and disease screening in 103. $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT image photographing was taken in Biograph-Duo made by SIEMENS, after taking normal $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT image (1 hr) and then 1 hr later we took the thyroid 1 bed-delayed image for the patients who showed abnormal thyroid $^{18}F$-FDG uptake and above 2.0 SUV for 2 minutes every 1 bed. For the patients who showed abnormal thyroid uptake and above 2.0 SUV, 1 hr later, we took a 1 bed-delayed image and then made a comparative study between measured $SUV_{max}$ of 1 hr-abnormal uptake image and that of 2 hr-delayed image. Results and Conclusion: In this $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT study among the patients who showed incidental $^{18}F$-FDG thyroidal uptake the number of thyroid incidentaloma was 5 (0.63%), all of then showed benign findings. And in the case of incidental $^{18}F$-FDG uptake in thyroid, $SUV_{max}$ variance obtained from 2 hr delayed image can be a indirect criteria in differentiating benign tumor from malignancy and decrease finding error. In the cases found thyroid incidentaloma when 1) $SUV_{max}$ of focal thyroid lesion is above 5.0 and 2) $SUV_{max}$ variance between normal $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT exam and 2 hr delayed is $1.0{\pm}0.5$, they are suspected as malignancy and confirming biopsy is to be followed. Otherwise, I also think that distinct follow-up PET or CT image study is a reasonable diagnostic method.
