Comparison of the standards for absorbed dose to water of the IAEA and the KRISS, Korea in accelerator photon beams

  • A bilateral comparison was conducted between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) to measure the absorbed dose to water in accelerator photon beams. KRISS served as a linking laboratory to compare the IAEA standard with the key comparison reference value (KCRV) of the BIPM.RI(I)-K6 program, in which KRISS participated in 2017. Two ionization chambers from the IAEA were used as transfer instruments for the comparison. Both laboratories measured the calibration coefficients of these instruments and calculated the ratios. The ratio of the KRISS standard to the KCRV was applied to obtain the degree of equivalence of the IAEA, along with its uncertainty. The largest deviation of the IAEA measurement from the KCRV was 3.4 mGy/Gy, significantly smaller than the expanded uncertainty of 10.7 mGy/Gy (k = 2, 95% level of confidence). This study demonstrates the equivalence of IAEA's measurement standard for accelerator photon beams to other primary standard dosimetry laboratories. It provides evidence for the satisfactory operation of IAEA's quality management system and enhances the international credibility of the IAEA SSDL network, particularly in high-energy accelerator photon beams from linear accelerators.

Study of The Anisotropy of Electron Energy Distribution of Optical-Field Ionized Oxygen Plasma by Using Polarization Spectroscopy

  • The anisotropy of electron energy distribution in oxygen plasmas produced by a high intensity laser was investigated by using polarization spectroscopy. An ultra-short pulsed laser with a pulse duration of 66.5 fs and a power density of $1 {\times} 10^17/ W/$\textrm{cm}^2$$ was used. At this power density and pulse duration, the plasma was generated predominantly by optical field ionization. The degree of polarization of OVI 1s$^2$2p$^2$p2- 1s$^2$4d$^2$D$^{0}$ (J = 1/2-3/2 and 3/2-5/2) transition line at 129.92 $\AA$ was measured. O VI 1s$^2$2p$^2$P$^2$ -1s$^2$4s$^2$S$^2$ (J = 1/2-1/2 and 3/2-1/2) transition line at 132.26 $\AA$ was used to calibrate the sensitivity of the optical system. The dependencies of the degree of polarization on the initial gas density and on the laser polarization were investigated. When the laser polarization was changed from a linear to a circular polarization, the degree of polarization was decreased. When the initial gas density was increased, the degree of polarization was decreased.

  • A Sputter ion Plating(SIP) system with a r.f. coil electrode and the Facing Target Sputter(FTS) source was designed for high-quality thin film formation. The rf discharge was combined with DC facing target sputtering in order to enhance ionization degree of a sputtered atoms. The energy of ions incident on the substrate depended on the health potential of DC biased substrate. The mean impact ion energy increased with negative bias voltage and rf power. The adhesive force of the TiN film formed was in the range of 30$\sim$50N, and markedly influenced by substrate bias voltage.

Isolation of a Calcium-binding Peptide from Chlorella Protein Hydrolysates

  • To isolate a calcium-binding peptide from chlorella protein hydrolysates, chlorella protein was extracted and hydrolyzed using Flavourzyme, a commercial protease. The degree of hydrolysis and calcium-binding capacity were determined using trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid and orthophenanthroline methods, respectively. The enzymatic hydrolysis of chlorella protein for 6 hr was sufficient for the preparation of chlorella protein hydrolysates. The hydrolysates of chlorella protein were then ultra-filtered under 5 kDa as molecular weight. The membrane-filtered solution was fractionated using ion exchange, reverse phase, normal phase chromatography, and fast protein liquid chromatography to identify a calcium-binding peptide. The purified calcium-binding peptide had a calcium binding activity of 0.166 mM and was determined to be 700.48 Da as molecular weight, and partially identified as a peptide containing Asn-Ser-Gly-Cys based on liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrum.

  • 혼합유기산으로부터 숙신산의 분리를 단극 분리막을 사용한 탈염전기투석장치를 이용하여 행하였다. 전류효율, 회수율, 에너지소요량, 분리비 등의 변화를 pH 값과 초기농도비에 따라 측정하였다. 숙신산의 분리는 숙신산과 아세트산의 이온화율, 분자량, 이온전도도, 전자가 크기 그리고 초기농도비 등으로 해석될 수 있었다.

  • A soy protein hydrolysate was found to inhibit rat platelet aggregation induced by ADP, an aggregating agent. To find out its principal antiplatelet peptide(s), the soy protein hydrolysate was separated successively by gel filtration chromatography, revere-phase HPLC, and cation exchange HPLC. During the course of separation, we observed that most fractions had antiplatelet effects, which suggests that most peptides have some degree of antiplatelet effect. Following the inhibitory fractions, we purified and identified two new peptides, SSGE and DEE, by LC-electrospray ionization MS and peptide equencing. Both peptides were highly hydrophilic. The concentrations to obtain 50% inhibition ($IC_50$) of the aggregation intensity were approximately $\458muM$ and $\485muM$, respectively, for SSGE and DEE.

LC/MS를 이용한 식육중 잔류 벤지미다졸계 구충제 분석법 연구 (Study on analytical method of residual benzimidazole anthelmintics in meat by LC/MS)

  • Recently, mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography (LC/MS) has been a preferred technique for determination of organic compounds in complex matrixes. LC/MS provides a high degree sensitivity and specificity of the compounds of interest. The purpose of this study was to confirm analytical method of residual 6 benzimidazoles (thiabendazole, oxfendazole, mebendazole, albendazole, flubendazole and fenbendazole) in meat by LC/MS. Benzimidazoles were analyzed by LC/MS on XTerra $C_{18}$ column with 0.01% trifluoroacetic acid-acetonitrile (TFA) in a gradient mode as mobile phase, and that were identified by electrospray ionization with selected ion recording mode at 150-350 amu mass range. Residual benzimidazoles were extracted from tissue with ethylacetate, and elute benzimidazoles with $50\%$ acetonitrile. In the LC/MS analysis of benzimidazoles, signal to noise ratio was showed relatively high in the positive mode and special ion in the quality analysis was determined via $[M+H]^+$ and Fragment ions. A spectrum of benzimidazoles was showed from all 6 benzimidazoles

산화촉진제 공존하에서의 트리글리세리드 분자종의 산화특성 (Oxidative Characteristics of Triglyceride Molecular Species in the Presence of Prooxidants)

  • 산화촉진제 존재하에서의 트리글리세리드 분자종의 산화특성을 밝히기 위하여, 규산 컬럼으로 분획한 대두유 트리글리세리드에 $Fe^{2+}$와 heme 화합물인 myoglobin을 첨가하여 이들 산화촉진제가 트리글리세리드 각 분자종의 신화안정성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 대두유 트리글리세리드에 대한 산화촉진효과는 본 실험의 조건에서는 myoglobin이 $Fe^{2+}$보다 켰으나, 트리글리세리드 분자종의 산화안정성에 있어서는 첨가한 산화촉진제의 종류에는 큰 영향을 받지 않았다. 또 산화촉진제의 효과는 분자종의 구성지방산의 불포화도가 낮은 경우는 뚜렷하였으나 불포화도가 높은 경우는 뚜렷하지 않았다. 그리고 산화촉진제를 첨가하였을 때 트리글리세리트 분자종의 산화안정성은 분자종의 이중결합수가 같은 경우는 구성지방산의 불포화도가 낮을수록 높았으나, 구성지방산의 불포화도가 같은 경우 공존하는 포화지방산 acyl기의 사슬길이에는 영향을 받지 않았다.

두경부 질환의 인터벤션 시술 시 시술자의 피폭선량평가를 위한 공간선량측정에 관한 연구 (Measurement of Spatial Dose Distribution for evaluation operator dose during Neuro-interventional Procedures)

  • 두경부 질환의 인터벤션 시술 시 시술자가 받는 피폭선량의 평가 및 감소연구를 위한 선행 연구로써, 이온 전리함을 이용하여 인터벤션 시술 시 시술자의 위치하는 공간선량 분포를 측정하였다. Bi-plane 인터벤션 시술 장비를 대상으로 4개 구역(45, 135, 225 그리고 315도)으로 나누어 가상의 시술자가 있다는 가정아래에 시술자의 결정장기위치에서 거리(80, 100, 120, 그리고 140 cm)에 따라 조사선량을 측정하였으며, 방사선발생장치의 위치를 변화시켜 선량변화를 분석하였다. 시술자의 대부분이 위치하는 225도의 구역의 조사선량은 가장 가까운 거리인 80 cm에서 시술자 눈의 높이에서 114.5 mR/h, 가슴의 높이는 143.1 mR/h, 그리고 생식기위치는 147 mR/h이었다. 그리고 방사선 발생장치의 위치를 시술자 가까이로 변화시켰을 경우, 평균적으로 $18.1{\pm}10.5%$의 선량이 증가하였다. 본 연구에서 인터벤션 시술 동안 시술자가 위치할 수 있는 곳의 공간선량분포를 확인하였으며, 본 연구 결과를 통하여 시술자의 방사선 방어에 대하여 구체적인 계획을 수립할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

  • In today's technological development of human society more and more influence on the lives of biological organisms different electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, the study and analysis of the mechanisms of their effects is an urgent task. The purpose of research - the study of the primary mechanisms of interaction of photons of optical radiation with the structures of biological objects, using the laws of quantum mechanics and biophysics. Photobiological basis of the mechanism of action of EMR optical range is the energy absorption of light quanta (photons) by atoms and molecules of biological structures (law Grotgus-Draper), which resulted in the formation of electronically excited states of these molecules with the transfer of photon energy (internal photoeffect). This is accompanied by electrolytic dissociation and ionization of biological molecules. The degree of manifestation of photobiological effects in the body depends on the intensity of the optical radiation, which is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source to the irradiated surface. Accordingly, in practice, determine not the intensity and irradiation dose at a certain distance from the source of exposure by the exposure time.
