  • The main objectives of this study are to calibrate the RICEWQ model with Korean field data and then analyse the sensitivity of the parameters to identify sensitive parameters. The RICEWQ is widely used to predict pesticide fate in a paddy plot. An experimental paddy plot of 0.2 ha($100{\times}20\;m$) at Seobyeon-dong, Daegu, Korea was selected, and field observations for water and pesticide balance were performed from 4 June to 2 September 2006. The molinate, which is a herbicide widely used for weed control in rice culture, was selected. The RICEWQ model was successfully calibrated both for the water and pesticide mass balance. The calibrated model showed a RMSE of 0.537 cm for ponded water depths and a RMSE of 0.036 mg/L for the molinate concentrations in the ponded water. The most sensitive parameters for molinate concentrations in ponded water were the metabolism degradation rate in water, volatilization coefficient, and release rate for slow release formulation. In contrast, the RICEWQ model was not sensitive to parameters such as hydrolysis degradation rate in water and degradation rate in unsaturated soil.

  • In order to study the relationship between static and cynamic behaviors of silion caride, both quasi-static indentaiton and impact experiments of spherical particle have been conducted. The difference inmaterial behavior when using the two mehtods suggests a loading rate difference in the damate pattrern and fracture strength of silicon carbide. This investigation showed some difference in damage pattern according to particla property, especially inthe case of particle impact. There was no differences in deformation behaviors according to the loading rate when the crater profiles were compared with each other at the same contact radius. From the result of residual strength evaluation, it was found that the strength degradation began at the initiation of ring crack and its behavior was colsely related to morphologies of the damage developed which was also dependent upon the extent of deformation atthe loaidng point. In the case of static indentation, there didnot exist the particle property effects onthe strength degradation behavior.

  • Effects of carbon dioxide partial pressure(PCO2) on bacterial population, methane production rate and matter degradation in anaerobic digestion were investigated by using anaerobic chemostat type reactors at 35$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, at the HRT of 7 days. At PCO2 of 0.5 atm, the specific methane production rate and specific substrate removal rate reached the maximum rates. The methane production rates in the reactors fed by mixed substrate were 26% higher than those obtained under the controlled condition. The number of acetate consuming methanogenic bacteria enumerated by the MPN(most probable number) method, decreased when PCO2 exceeded 0.7 atm. Hydrogen consuming methanogenic bacteria and homoacetogenic bacteria increased as PCO2 increased from 0.1 to 0.6 atm, however, decreased slightly at PCO2 above 0.7 atm. The number of hydrolytic bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria and H2-producing acetogenic bacterial were not much influenced by the change of PCO2. The potential methanogenic activity reached the maximum at PCO2 0.5 atm, however, decreased significantly when PCO2 exceeded 0.7 atm, would depend on free PCO2 concentration in solution.

  • Radiolysis of polyacrylonitrile(PAN) has been studied. Parameters for crosslinking and scission induced by gamma-ray irradiation were obtained by means of sol-gel partitioning method. G-value of crosslinking in PAN ($\bar{M}n=6{\times}10^5$) was 0.038 and the gel dose 21.6 Mrad. The effects of irradiation on the thermal degradation rate in PAN was also studied. No appreciable changes in thermal degradation rate observed up to 81.8 Mrad of irradiation dose.

  • The hydrolysis of phenobarbital is decelerated in alkaline solution by betacyclodextrin. The betacyclodextrin inhibits the degradation of phenobarbital up to 1.5 fold in the system containing 1% betacyclodextrin. The degradation mechanism in systems containing betacyclodextrin is the same that in system without complexing agent, although the rate constants are different. The pH dependence of the hydrolysis rate deceleration is compared with the ionization percent of betacyclodextrin. The results indicate that a direct relationship does not exist between the ionization of betacyclodextrin. It seems reasonable therefore that the phenobarbital undergoes a stable complex with betacyclodextrin and complex formation would provide a better shield for the phenobarbital from hydroxyl ion attack.

  • Biodegradable PLGA microspheres(MS) have been widely studied for delivering antigens because PLGA has the characteristics of various degradation rate. In general. since MS have shown potential for single-dose vaccines. the degradation rate of PLGA is determined by their molecular weight. polymer composition, etc. We studied the influences of molecular weight of PLGA. polymer composition and surfactant on in vitro release and in vivo effects. • The characteristics of photocatalytic degradation of tar colorants such as brilliant blue FCF(BBF) and tartrazine(TTZ) with zinc oxide suspension was studied in a batch reactor under irradiation of ultra-violet ray. Photocatalytic degradation of TTZ with ZnO was more higher than that of BBF, and was Increased with dosage of ZnO below 5g, but was nearly affected with initial pH of two tar colorants aqueous solution. Ammonium persulfate was more effective oxidant than potassium bromate which slightly increased the degradation of BBF, but not increased the degradation of TTZ. The photocatalytic degradation rates of BBF and TTZ were pseudo-first order with rate constants of 0.0066, 0.0092 and $0.015min^{-1}$ for BBF, 0.042, 0.017 and $0.110min^{-1}$ for TTZ at the dosage of 1, 2 and 5g ZnO, respectively.

  • This study proposes the analysis method of time series ultrasonic signal using the chaotic feature extraction for degradation extent evaluation. Features extracted from time series data using the chaotic time series signal analyze quantitatively degradation extent. For this purpose, analysis objective in this study is fractal dimension, lyapunov exponent, strange attractor on hyperspace. The lyapunov exponent is a measure of the rate at which nearby trajectories in phase space diverge. Chaotic trajectories have at least one positive lyapunov exponent. The fractal dimension appears as a metric space such as the phase space trajectory of a dynamical system. In experiment, fractal correlation) dimensions, lyapunov exponents, energy variation showed values of 2.217∼2.411, 0.097∼ 0.146, 1.601∼1.476 voltage according to degardation extent. The proposed chaotic feature extraction in this study can enhances precision ate of degradation extent evaluation from degradation extent results of the degraded materials (SA508 CL.3)

  • Three sets of ZnO ceramic devices (reference samples with Matsuoka\`s composition; added 7o MgO, A1$_2$O$_3$, SiO$_2$) have been prepared by the conventional mixed oxide route. These additives were determined by the factors of valences and ionic radiuses. DC accelerated degradation test was performed for analysis of degradation characteristics versus the various additives. The conditions of DC degradation test were 115${\pm}$2$^{\circ}C$ for 12h. Using XRD and SEM, the Phase and microstructure of samples were analyzed respectively. E-J analysis was used to determine ${\alpha}$. Frequency analysis was accomplished to understand the relationship between R$\sub$g/ and $R_{b}$ with the electric stress at the equivalent circuit.

  • The structural property of phenolic and non-phenolic lignin has an effect on the reaction rate of lignin by oxygen and chlorine dioxide respectively. Moreover, the undesirable degradation of cellulose followed by lignin degradation is influenced by chemical charge and reaction time. In this paper, several lignin model compounds were used to illuminate the interaction of oxygen and chlorine dioxide by varying the position of O and D(OD, DO, ODO and DOD), and gas chromatography method was used to investigate the degradation of lignin by determining the content of methoxyl groups in lignin. It was shown that structural properties of lignin models were more influential on the degradation and demethylation of lignin than the above combination. Combination of oxygen and chlorine dioxide, however, was more effective in degradation of lignin than only one stage, and three stages than two stages.
