과열(過熱) 증기(蒸氣)를 이용한 국내 폐기물(廢棄物) 유기성(有機性) 성분의 분해(分解) 특성 연구 (Degradation of Organic Component in MSW by Super-heated Steam)

  • 과열 증기를 이용하여 생활 폐기물내 유기성 성분의 분해를 수행하고 폐기물의 특성 및 반응 시간이 폐기물의 분해율에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 과열 증기를 이용한 분해 후 음식 및 폐지와 같은 생분해성 유기 성분은 쉽게 분해되었고 생분해성 유기 성분중 나무와 석유계 유기성 성분인 플라스틱, 금속과 같은 무기성 성분이 분해되지 않은 상태로 남아 쉽게 분리가 가능한 상태를 형성하였다. 입자의 크기 변화를 살펴본 결과 폐기물 내 생분해성 유기 성분이 적을수록 짧은 반응 시간에도 높은 입자 크기 감소를 보였으며 반응 시간이 60분 이상에서 최대 90% 이상의 입도 감소를 나타내었다.

  • As part of fundamental studies on the degradation of the organic compounds in industrial waste water, the photocatalytic degradation properties of the organic compound by means of the UV/TiO$_2$degradation process have been investigated. The test organic compound of acetic acid was chosen in this study. The testing of photo catalytic degradation were performed under various operation conditions such as TiO$_2$dosages, initial concentration of the organic, the aqueous pH's, etc. The effects of various parameters on the short time activity of the present acetic acid-UV/TiO$_2$system could be demonstrated from this investigation.

  • 본 연구에서는 아데노신3인산의 측정을 통하여 음식물 쓰레기의 발효-소멸반응에서의 미생물이 발생 및 활성정도를 총괄할 수 있는 인자를 도출할 수 있었다. 목질바이오칩을 이용한 음식물 쓰레기의 발효-소멸에서 무게감량 및 유기물 분해율이 높아질수록 아데노신3인산의 농도가 증가하였다. 아데노신3인산은 목질바이오칩의 종류별 유기물 분해 및 무게 감량에 대한 성능 선택성 설정에 유용한 인자로 활용 기대된다.

개량된 이탄과 유기성 슬러지를 이용한 유류오염토양 분해제 개발 (Development of Degradation Agent for Oil Contaminated Soil using Modified Peat Moss and Organic Sludge)

  • Oil degradation agent was developed with organic sludge and modified peat moss (MPM) to recover oil contaminated soil. Waste sludge discharged from wastewater treatment plant of chemical plant in Ulsan National Industrial Park was used as organic sludge, and MPM was purchased. Organic sludge was adequate to use as growth medium for microorganism, the surface of MPM had porous structure which could enhance the cultivation condition of oil degradation microorganisms. Water contents and TPH variation with time were observed to investigate the degradation capacity of developed degradation agent. Water contents were rapidly decreased with higher contents of MPM, however, in case of TPH, high MPM content decreased the degradation capacity. Therefore, it was recommended that the content of MPM was controlled to below 10% in degradation agent as mixing organic sludge with MPM.

사후관리단계 매립지의 생화학적 안정성 평가 연구 (Estimation of Biochemical Degradation in Landfill Waste)

  • 사후관리단계에 있는 폐기물매립지에서는 매립쓰레기의 안정화 정도를 실측조사하여 파악하기 어려운데 굴착조사를 하면 최종복토층이 손상되기 때문이다. 이러한 문제를 해결하고자 본 연구에서는 침출수 및 매립가스를 이용하여 매립쓰레기의 분해정도를 평가하는 방법을 개발하고 난지도매립지를 대상으로 적용해 보았다. 그 결과 난지도매립지의 매립쓰레기는 2000년까지 분해가능폐기물 기준 54%, 이분해성물질 기준 70%가 분해되었으며, 대부분이 가스상태로 전환된 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 결과는 생화학적 안정화지수로 활용하고, 매립지의 생물학적 분해조건이 변화되었을 때 반영하는 방법도 제시하였다.

커피 찌꺼기의 카페인 용출 및 산화분해 특성 (Extraction of Caffeine from Spent Coffee Grounds and Oxidative Degradation of Caffeine)

  • During the past few decades, significant increase in the consumption of coffee has led to rapid increase in the production of coffee waste in South Korea. Spent coffee waste is often treated as a general waste and is directly disposed without the necessary treatment. Spent Coffee Grounds (SCGs) can release several organic contaminants, including caffeine. In this study, leaching tests were conducted for SCGs and oxidative degradation of caffeine were also conducted. The tested SCGs contained approximately 4.4 mg caffeine per gram of coffee waste. Results from the leaching tests show that approximately 90% of the caffeine can be extracted at each step during sequential extraction. Advanced oxidation methods for the degradation of caffeine, such as $UV/H_2O_2$, photo-Fenton reaction, and $UV/O_3$, were tested. UV radiation has a limited effect on the degradation of caffeine. In particular, UV-A and UV-B radiations present in sunlight cause marginal degradation, thereby indicating that natural degradation of caffeine is minimal. However, $O_3$ can cause rapid degradation of caffeine, and the values of pseudo-first order rate constants were found to be ranging from $0.817min^{-1}$ to $1.506min^{-1}$ when the ozone generation rate was $37.1g/m^3$. Additionally, the degradation rate of caffeine is dependent on the wavelength of irradiation.

음식물쓰레기 탈수액의 혐기성 생분해 특성 (Characteristics of Anaerobic Degradation on Dewatered Liquid of Household Food Waste.)

  • Anaerobic degradation characteristics of dewatered liquid of household food waste including methane conversion efficiency and degradation kinetics were studied in an anaerobic batch reactor of 5 L volume. The ultimate methane production for dewatered liquid of household food waste tested was over 0.31L $CH_4/L{\cdot}dewatered$ liquid of household food waste. The kinetic constant of dewatered liquid of household food waste tested was $0.223d^{-1}/L$. The kinetic behavior of anaerobic degradation was described as a first order series reaction. The determinant of rate-limiting step(DR) that is balanced out from the rates of reaction steps was defined by the logarithmic difference of the maximum acidification rate and the maximum methanation rate. Anaerobic degradation characteristics of organic materials were evaluated by the value of DR. The DR of dewatered liquid of household food waste tested was 1.17.

Application of a Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion Process to Industrial Waste Activated Sludge Treatment

  • Thermophilic aerobic bacteria were applied in the degradation of industrial waste activated sludge (WAS) on a laboratory scale expreiment. The performance of digestion was estimated by measuring the reduction of total suspended solids (TSS), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and total organic carbon (TOC). Among three strains of Bacillus stearothermophilus and three strains of Thermus species, B. stearothemophilus ATCC 31197 showed the best overall efficiency level for the degradation of industrial WAS, which was collected from a wastewater treatment plant in an oil refinery factory. Industrial WAS coul be successfully detraded in a batch digestion with ATCC 31197. The stability of the digestion process with ATCC 31197 was successfully verified by semi-continuous (fill-and-draw) digestion experiment. From the results of this study, it was shown that the thermophilic aerobic digestion process with ATCC 31197 could efficiently be applied to the degradation of industrial WAS.

  • Sources of organic waste materials for aerobic and/or anaerobic degradation, or for composting of solid wastes in Germany were estimated. The basic microbiology and the energetics of these processes were compared with special emphasis on anaerobic degradation, for which a general degradation scheme of carbohydrates is presented. Advantages of anaerobic over aerobic treatment processes are pointed out and conditions for maintaining a highly stable anaerobic process as well as producing a sanitized, hygienic product are discussed. Reactor systems suitable for efficient treatment of wastes with a high or low proportion of suspended solids are principally compared and results of laboratory studies on the degradation of several wastes and animal manures summarized. Finally, a piggery slurry treatment factory for an ultimate slurry processing to obtain a dry fertilizer and a harmless, disposable liquid, as it is in operation in Helmond/Holland, is presented and preliminary process data are presented.

지렁이로부터 분리한 Bacillus pumilus JS-01 균주의 유기물 분해능 및 응집능 (Degrading and Flocculating Property of A Bacterium Isolated from the Extract of Earthworm)

  • 음식물류폐기물의 친환경적 처리를 위한 소재를 개발하기 위하여 지렁이로부터 유기물 분해 및 응집능을 갖는 기능성 미생물을 분리하였다. 분리된 균주 중 음식물류폐기물을 처리하는데 적합한 것으로 판단되는 균주를 최종 선별하여 JS-01균주로 명명하였으며 16s rDNA 염기서열분석에 의한 최종결과, Bacillus pumilus로 동정되었다. 0.5% Kaolin clay을 대상으로 JS-01균주의 응집능을 조사한 결과 응집을 위한 최적 생장조건은 MRS 액체배지에서 온도 $37^{\circ}C$ 및 pH 7.0으로 나타났다. 유기물분해능 중에서는 특히, 음식물류폐기물의 대표적 성분인 섬유소에 대한 분해능을 확인하였다. 따라서 JS-01균주는 음식물류폐기물의 친환경적 처리 및 재활용을 위한 미생물 소재 및 음식물 침출수의 효과적인 응집 처리를 위한 생체량 생성에 이용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
