전산유체역학을 이용한 스프링클러헤드의 형상 개선 (An improvement of sprinkler head design using computational fluid dynamics)

  • 초기 화재 진압을 위해 사용되는 스프링클러(sprinkler) 설비는 스프링클러헤드의 형태에 따라 살수 분포가 달라진다. 화점의 발생 위치는 특정하기 어려우므로 스프링클러의 살수범위(spray coverage)가 넓게 퍼지는 형태가 되는 것이 확률적으로 가장 큰 효율성을 가진다. 본 연구에서는 EDISON_전산열유체 시스템의 다상유동 해석자를 활용하여 스프링클러헤드의 형태에 따라 살수각과 국부 유동장을 분석하였다. 3차원 형상을 가지는 스프링클러헤드 형상을 2차원 단면으로 나누어 해석하였으며 프레임(frame)과 반사판(deflector)의 형상에 따른 유동장의 변화를 살펴보았고 살수각(spray angle)을 정량적으로 나타내었다. 최종적으로 최대 최소의 살수각을 갖는 2차원 스프링클러헤드를 형상화하였고 이를 중첩하여 살수 범위를 넓게 갖는 스프링클러헤드를 3차원 모델링하였다.

  • Experimental studies of laser micromachining on Mo metal using piezo Q-switched Nd:YAG laser have been performed. Miniaturized microcolumn electron gun arrays as a potential electron beam lithography or portable mini-scanning electron microscope application have recently extensively examined. For these purpose, the electro-static electron lens and deflector system called microcolumn has to be assembled. The conventional microcolumn fabrication technique would gave a limitation on the minimization of aberration. The current technique of a 1 $\mu$m misalignment would lead to ~1.3 nm coma. In order to reduce aberration, assembling the microcolumn component followed by laser drilling should be very beneficial. In this report, we will address the preliminary report of laser micromachining on Mo substrate using piezo Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The geometrical figures, such as the diameter and the depth of the frilled aperture are dependent upon the total energy of the laser pulse train, laser pulsewidth, and the diameter of laser beam in addition to the materials-dependent parameters.

Broadband Phase-change Metagrating Design for Efficient Active Reflection Steering

  • In this paper, I introduce a novel design method of a high performance nanophotonic beam deflector providing broadband operation, large active tunability, and signal efficiency, simultaneously. By combining thermo-optically tunable vanadium dioxide nano-ridges and a metallic mirror, reconfigurable local optical phase of reflected diffraction beams can be engineered in a desired manner over broad bandwidth. The active metagrating deflectors are systematically designed for tunable deflection of reflection beams according to the thermal phase-change of vanadium dioxide nano-ridges. Moreover, by multiplexing the phase-change supercells, a robust design of actively tunable beam splitter is also verified numerically. It is expected that the proposed intuitive and simple design method would contribute to development of next-generation optical interconnects and spatial light modulators with high performances. The author also envisions that this study would be fruitful for modern holographic displays and three-dimensional depth sensing technologies.

전자계산기 홀로그램을 이용한 레이저 주사장치 (Laser Scanner Using a Computer-Generated Hologram)

  • A laser scanner utilizing a computer-generated hologram(CGH) as beam deflector is reported. The CGH optical element has been used mainly for under-filled scanning. Here, a CGH optical element for overfilled scanning is proposed. It can achieve, under the same limitation of fabrication accuracy, better resolution and longer scan length than those for under-filled scanning. Measured scanning characteristics of the laser scanner show the scan length of 40 cm and the beam diameter of 100\ulcorner, where the designed minimum distance between the lines of CGH is 8\ulcorner.

The Double Asteroid Redirection Test: NASA's First Planetary Defense Test Mission

  • The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is NASA's first planetary defense test mission, designed to test the kinetic deflector technique by crashing into an asteroid and changing its orbit. DART's launch window opens in November, 2021, with arrival at its target less than a year later in late September or early October 2022. The target of the DART spacecraft is the moonlet Dimorphos, a 150-m moonlet orbiting the 780-m asteroid Dimorphos. By changing the orbit of Dimorphos around Didymos, the results can be detected much more easily than changing the orbit of an asteroid around the Sun. I will discuss what we know about Didymos and Dimorphos, the plans for the DART mission, the expected results, and how DART is important for planetary defense in general.

드렌처 헤드의 형상에 따른 수막특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Effects of the Shape of a Drencher Head on the Characteristics of a Water Curtain)

  • 드렌처 헤드의 형상이 화재확산 차단을 위한 수막의 유동특성 및 복사 감쇠에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구가 수행되었다. 헤드의 형상인자로서 오리피스 출구와 반사판의 거리(h) 그리고 반사판의 직경(D)이 변화되었으며, 오리피스의 직경(d)은 고정되었다. 주요 결과로서, h의 증가는 방수량과 분사각의 증가를 가져오지만, D의 증가에 따라 분사각의 변화는 감소한다. D의 증가는 방수량 증가에 매우 작은 영향을 미치며, 분사각의 큰 감소를 초래한다. 또한 D의 증가는 보다 편평한 수막 패턴을 생성시킬 수 있지만, 분사각 내의 더 낮은 액적 균일도를 가져온다. 작동압력의 증가에 따라 평균 액적직경은 크게 감소하지만, 일정한 압력 조건 하에서 헤드 형상변화는 액적직경 변화에 큰 영향을 주지 않는다. 마지막으로 일정한 작동압력의 조건에서 드렌처 헤드의 복사 감쇠효과는 h 및 D의 변화에 따른 방수량과 액적 균일도에 의해 각각 영향을 받는 것으로 확인되었다.

Ce-SBN:60결정에서 광굴절 부피격자를 이용한 광편향 (Beam deflection using photorefractive volume grating in Ce-SBN:60 crystal)

  • 광편향은 광굴절결정내의 두 기록빔 간섭에 의해 유도된 동적 광굴절 부피격자를 이용한다. 본 논문에서는 외부 전기장을 인가할 필요가 없으며, 낮은 광세기에서도 쉽게 광굴절 부피격자가 유도되는 CeO$_{2}$가 0.05Wt.% 도핑된 Sr$_{0.6}$Ba$_{0.4}$Nb$_{2}$O$_{6}$(Ce-SBN:60)결정의 동적 특성을 이용하여 광편향기를 구현하고 해석하였다. 그리고, Ce-SBN:60결정의 광파결합특성을 조사하기 위해 2광파 혼합을 통해 결정의 최대결합계수, 유효전하밀도, 기록빔의 세기비에 따른 회절효율 및 회절효율의 시간응답특성을 측정하고 해석하였다.

  • Carbon fiber-reinforced silicon carbide (Cf-SiC) and SiC / SiC composites have high thermal conductivity, and excellent corrosion and wear resistance, a low coefficient for thermal expansion and are lightweight. This is why they are commonly used in parts of the aerospace industry to develop an aircraft thrust deflector, jet vane, combustion chamber, elevens, body flap, and a shingle. So, understanding how this state-of-the-art Cf-SiC affects both internal and external crack detection and determining issues during the manufacturing process of composite materials, should be evaluated according to valuation techniques in the external environment. In this paper, we apply a non-contact air ultrasonic technique of non-destructive testing techniques to perform a study on internal defect detection identification and assessment of carbon-fiber reinforced silicon carbide composites to perform basic research and applied research.

가솔린엔진의 냉각계 유로 변경을 통한 금속면 온도 및 전열에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Metal Surface Temperature and Heat Transfer by Improving Gasoline Engine Cooling Passages)

  • Metal surface temperatures around the combustion chamber in a gasoline engine directly affect thermal durability and performance of the engine. Metal surface temperatures are influenced by many cooling factors such as drilled water passage, deflector, combustion chamber wall thickness, pillar, and coolant flow pattern. The object of this study is to learn how the coolant passages and coolant flow pattern in an engine influence to the engine metal surface temperature at engine full load and speed. From the test result, it is suggested a plan to reinforce the engine stiffness and to reduce the thermal stress simultaneously. Also, approaches are introduced to reduce the thermal load on the engine by adjusting the discharging direction from the water pump and by optimizing the water transfer holes in the cylinder head gasket. These methods and the optimized engine cooling system, which were suggested in this paper, were adapted for an engine in progress to eliminate the exhaust valve seat wear.

CFD모사 기법을 이용한 Pump Diffusion Mixer내의 응집체 확산분포에 대한 평가 (Evaluation of Coagulants Dispersion in Pump Diffusion Mixer for Water Treatment)

  • The objectives of this research were to evaluate the pressurized/the main inlet water flowrate ratio which have been used as the most important parameter for operating the pump diffusion mixer until now, to suggest the alternative operating parameter and the relating criteria if the flowrate ratio was not inadequate. For the objectives of this research, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was conducted for 21 cases of flowrate ratio in full-scaled pump diffusion mixer. From the results of CFD simulation, the local velocity gradient values were calculated in each case in order to analyze the simulation results in more detail. For verifying CFD simulation, wet test was conducted. The wet test was to measure the factual coagulant dispersion distribution at a distance of 5.4m from deflector. From both results of CFD simulation and wet test, flowrate ratio was inadequate as operating parameter or criteria, on the other hand the pressurized/the main inlet velocity ratio(dimensionless) was useful in predicting the performance of pump diffusion mixer. Also, the injected coagulant could be dispersed evenly in overall cross section on the condition that pressurized/the main inlet velocity ratio(dimensionless) is over at least 20.
