  • ISO6954:2000 (Mechanical vibration - Guidelines for the measurement, reporting and evaluation of vibration with regard to habitability on passenger and merchant ships) has taken effect as the governing body for vibration regarding habitability due to ship vibration. However, ISO6954:2000, when compared ISO6954:1984 (the first draft of ISO6954), needs to clear some deficiencies concerning convenience and reliability during field applications. In this paper, ISO6954:1984 and 2000 are evaluated on their suggested assessment method of ship's vibration in the future.

  • The purposes of this study were to review current status and problems of national qualification sys tem in the field of industrial hygiene, focusing on the deficiencies in the regulatory system and the quality of individual professionals including the Industrial Hygiene Management Professional Engineer and the Industrial Hygiene Management Engineer, and to suggest new directions for the industrial hygiene qualification system. In addition, comparable systems adopted in other countires were reviewed.

  • This study of small & Medium-Sized construction sites construction disaster prevention technology conduction-site visits from the map results report by the inspector on-site advice and technical guidance for the analysis of deficiencies and potential construction of disaster revealed the potential factors causing an accident as follows. As a results, Should not be a once a month visits. Therefore should be changed at least twice a month to help prevent accidents of this system is to be judged.

  • The flame structure and soot formation in the counterflow Ethylene-Air nonpremixed flame are numerically analyzed. The present soot reaction mechanism involves nucleation, surface growth, particle coagulation, and oxidation steps. The gas phase chemistry and the soot nucleation, surface growth reactions are coupled by assuming that the nucleation and soot mass growth has the certain relationship with the concentration of benzene and acetylene. In terms of the centerline velocity and the soot volume fraction, the predicted results are compared with the experimental data. The detailed discussion has been made for the sensitivity of model constants and the deficiencies of the present model. Numerical results indicated that the acetylene addition to the soot surface plays the dominant role in the soot mass growth for the counterflow nonpremixed flame.

  • In order to analyze the effect of a cover layer or radome for an antenna, the moment method is applied to the analysis of the circular microstrip patch antenna with dielectric superstrate fed by coaxial probe. The probe feed is modeled as a attachment mode method which can solve more exact analysis. In case of a ideal probe feed modeling, the probe self-impedance as well as the rapidly-varying patch current at the vicinity of the feed point was neglected. But a rigorous probe feed model which overcomes these deficiencies are developed, and used in the analysis of isolated circular patches. Measurements were performed to validate the numerical results. These are good agreement with each other.

Humeral Hemimelia in a Holstein Calf (유우 송아지의 선천성 상완골 형성 부전)

  • Humeral hemimelia is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by deficiency of the humerus with relatively intact scapular. The holstein calf was healthy expecting the deformity of forelimb humerus. The examination of PCR and serum neutralizing test was carried about BVD, akabane virus, Ibaraki virus and Kasba virus in cattle. The results were all negative. Affected calf showed forelimb deformation. Other abnormalitis was not observed in brain, spinal cord, liver, kidney and other visceral organs. Amelia are very rare limb anomalies. We report on a Holstein calf with forelimb deficiencies. This case appears humeral anomalies with ulnar and radius aplasia in calf. The condition in these calves was considered the result of a recurrence of a genetic mutation affecting a putative hemimelia locus.

Strengthening of deficient RC frames with high strength concrete panels: an experimental study

  • An economic, structurally effective and practically applicable strengthening technique was developed for reinforced concrete (RC) framed buildings. The idea of the technique is to convert the existing hollow brick infill wall into a load carrying system acting as a cast-in-place RC infill wall by bonding relatively thin high strength precast concrete PC panels to the plastered hollow brick infill. For this purpose, a total of eight one-third scale, one bay, one story frames were tested under reversed-cyclic lateral loads. Test frames were designed and constructed with common deficiencies observed in practice. Four different panel types were used for strengthening. Test results showed that both strength and stiffness of the frames were significantly improved by the introduction of PC panels. Experimental results were compared with the analytical approaches suggested by the authors.

  • Structural defects such as cracks are the source of local flexibilities and cause deficiencies in structural resistance. In the engineering constructions, structural elements sometimes are subjected to axial loading. Therefore, besides crack ratios and locations, influence of applied load on the stability and dynamical characteristics should also be explored. This study offers a numerical technique for the vibration and stability analysis of axially loaded cracked beams. The model merges finite element and component mode synthesis methods. Initially, stability analysis is completed and then dynamical characteristics of beams are found. Very good conformities between outcomes of the current study and those in literature, give the confidence that proposed method is reliable and effective.

  • This paper presents the results of the TEXAS-V computer code simulations of FARO L-14, L-28, and L-33. The old break-up model and new break-up model are tested to compare the respective simulations of each. As these experimental data sets cover a wide range of ambient pressures, sub-cooling of the water pool, and the melt jet diameters, the results of the simulations will be beneficial in assessing the TEXAS-V code's capability to predict the steam explosion phenomena in a prototypical reactor case. The current model was found to have some deficiencies, and the modules for the fragmentation, the equation of state, and the interfacial area for each flow regime in TEXAS-V were improved for the simulation of FARO L28 and FARO L-33.

  • More than half of all incidents in large complex technological systems, particularly in nuclear power or aviation industries, were attributable in some way to human erroneous actions. These incidents were largely due to the human engineering deficiencies of man-machine interface (MMI). In nuclear industry, advanced computer-based MMI designs are emerging as part of new reactor designs. The impact of advanced MMI technology on the operator performance, and as a result, on plant safety should be thoroughly evaluated before such technology is actually adopted in nuclear power plants. This paper discusses the applicability of human reliability analysis (HRA) to support the design review process. Both the first-generation and the second-generation HRA methods are considered focusing on a couple of promising HRA methods, i.e., ATHEANA and CREAM, with the potential to assist the design review process.
