  • We carried out the kinetic model calculations in order to estimate the nucleation rates for two kinds of half-loop dislocations in highly strained hetero-epitaxial growths; $60^{\circ}$dislocations and twinning dislocations. The surface defects and the stress concentration effects were considered in this model, and the remaining elastic strain of the epilayers with increasing film thickness was taken into account by using the modified Matthews' relation. The calculations showed that the stress concentration effect at surface imperfections is very important for describing the defect generation in highly mismatched epitaxial growth. This work also showed that the stress concentration effect determined the type of dislocation nucleating dominantly at early growth stages in accordance with our XTEM (cross-section transmission electron microscopy) defect observation.

  • To evaluate rock bolt integrity, destructive test such as pull-out test has been commonly carried out. This method is known as time consuming, expensive, and inaccurate procedure. To improve destructive method, non-destructive techniques using transmitted guided ultrasonic waves were suggested. Note for the transmission method, the source for the generation of ultrasonic waves should be installed during the rock bolt construction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the reflection method using reflected guided ultrasonic waves to evaluate the integrity of the rock bolt grouted, and to compare the results evaluated by the reflection and transmission methods. The guided waves are generated by PZT element and received by AE sensor. The measured signals are analyzed by the wavelet transform. The results show that the energy velocities of guided ultrasonic waves increase with the defect ratio in both transmission and reflection method. The reflection method produces the lower velocity in all defect ratio. This research demonstrates that the reflection method may be suitable and easer method for the field tests.

  • According to the variation of hydrostatic pressure on the central axis of deformable material, the V-shaped central bursting defect may be created in extrusion or drawing processes. The process factors which affect the generation of defects are semi-angle of die, reduction ratio of cross-sectional area, friction factor, material properties and so on. The combination of these factors can determine the possibility of defect creation and the shape of various round holes which have been created inside already. By the rigid plastic finite element method, this paper describes the observations of change in shape of round holes with process conditions such as semi-angle of die, reduction ratio of cross-sectional area and friction factor at the non-steady state of axisymmetrical extrusion process when the round hole is already existed inside the original billet. Also, the effects of process factors are investigated to prevent the possible defects.

  • In this study, we quantitatively measure the ion ranges of arsenic with energies ranging from 10 KeV to 100 KeV, implanted at $3^{\circ}$, $9^{\circ}$ $15^{\circ}$ the (100) plane, and the damage created during ion implantation. To obtain detailed information of ion range and damage distributions in low energy region where elastic collisions dominate the slowing down process, molecular dynamics computer simulation was performed and compared to the existing results. The effects of implant energy and degree on damage generation are present. The number of vacancy were calculated from the deposited energy using Kinchin-Pease equation. In the energy range 10 keV-100 keV, simulations show that the number of Frenckel pairs produced by As-ion bimbardment is 9 and incident angle dependence of the vacancy was the same but defects were distributed at different depth.

  • Due to the importance of the SiGe/Si heterostructure in the fields of thermoelectric and electronic applications, SiGe/Si heterostructures have been extensively investigated. For practical applications, thermal stability of the heterostructure during the thermoelectric power generation or fabrication process of electronic devices is of great concern. In this work, we focused on the effect of thermal annealing on the defect configuration in the SiGe/Si heterostructure. The formation mechanism of planar defects in an annealed SiGe/Si heterostructure was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Due to the interdiffusion of Si and Ge, interface migration phenomena were observed in annealed heterostructures. Because of the strain gradient in the migrated region between the original interface and the migrated interface, the glide of misfit dislocation was observed in the region and planar defects were produced by the interaction of the gliding misfit dislocations. The planar defects were confined to the migrated region, and dislocation pileup by strain gradient was the origin of the confinement of the planar defect.

  • In this paper, performance improved hole-filling algorithm which includes the boundary noise removing pre-process that can be used for an arbitrary virtual view synthesis has been proposed. Boundary noise occurs due to the boundary mismatch between depth and texture images during the 3D warping process and it usually causes unusual defects in a generated virtual view. Common-hole is impossible to recover by using only a given original view as a reference and most of the conventional algorithms generate unnatural views that include constrained parts of the texture. To remove the boundary noise, we first find occlusion regions and expand these regions to the common-hole region in the synthesized view. Then, we fill the common-hole using the spiral weighted average algorithm and the gradient searching algorithm. The spiral weighted average algorithm keeps the boundary of each object well by using depth information and the gradient searching algorithm preserves the details. We tried to combine strong points of both the spiral weighted average algorithm and the gradient searching algorithm. We also tried to reduce the flickering defect that exists around the filled common-hole region by using a probability mask. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than the conventional algorithms.

  • The techniques in order to measure the depth of defect in weldment and structure accurately have been developed. Many researches have made efforts to develop the methods for the accurate depth sizing of defect. TOFD is known as the most accurate method of various methods for measuring depth sizing. However, there is a possibility to miss defects because of the limitation of beam coverage for the ultrasound incident angle. In this study, the results for detectability and depth sizing using phased array ultrasonic technique for thick body were compared with those of conventional TOFD technique. It was experimentally confirmed that the phased array ultrasonic TOFD technique gives good detectability and accurate depth measurement for the various types of defects. The phased array ultrasonic TOFD technique developed in this study will contribute to increase the inspection reliability in thick component such as the pressure vessel of power generation industry.

  • The industrial 4.0 era has been opened with the development of artificial intelligence technology, and the realization of smart farms incorporating ICT technology is receiving great attention in the livestock industry. Among them, the quality management technology of livestock products and livestock operations incorporating computer vision-based artificial intelligence technology represent key technologies. However, the insufficient number of livestock image data for artificial intelligence model training and the severely unbalanced ratio of labels for recognizing a specific defective state are major obstacles to the related research and technology development. To overcome these problems, in this study, combining oversampling and adversarial case generation techniques is proposed as a method necessary to effectively utilizing small data labels for successful defect detection. In addition, experiments comparing performance and time cost of the applicable techniques were conducted. Through experiments, we confirm the validity of the proposed methods and draw utilization strategies from the study results.

  • Korean military is propelling the M&S on new warfare concept, such as NCW(Network Centric Warfare) which is the aspect of future war. IPv6 is the essential element of next generation defense network which is supporting the future battlefield. There have been many studies on allocating the IPv6 address for next generation defense network. However, they assigned the address by level on the basis of the military organization or assigned it from the service network, so it had the defect, the big size routing table. This study reviews the topology of next generation defense network and adjusts the position of service network ID on the basis of the network topology. Finally, it improved the efficiency of route aggregation and minimized the routing table size in comparison with the previous studies and it was proved by OPNET simulator.
