Traditional approaches for structural health monitoring (SHM) seldom take ambient uncertainty (temperature, humidity, ambient vibration) into consideration, while their impacts on structural responses are substantial, leading to a possibility of raising false alarms. A few predictors model-based approaches deal with these uncertainties through complex numerical models running online, rendering the SHM approach to be compute-intensive, slow, and sometimes not practical. Also, with model-based approaches, the imperative need for a precise understanding of the structure often poses a problem for not so well understood complex systems. The present study employs a data-based approach coupled with Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to correlate recorded response time histories under varying temperature conditions to corresponding damage scenarios. EMD decomposes the response signal into a finite set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). A two-dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (2DCNN) is further trained to associate these IMFs to the respective damage cases. The use of IMFs in place of raw signals helps to reduce the impact of sensor noise while preserving the essential spatio-temporal information less-sensitive to thermal effects and thereby stands as a better damage-sensitive feature than the raw signal itself. The proposed algorithm is numerically tested on a single span bridge under varying temperature conditions for different damage severities. The dynamic strain is recorded as the response since they are frame-invariant and cheaper to install. The proposed algorithm has been observed to be damage sensitive as well as sufficiently robust against measurement noise.
Convolution neural networks (CNNs) show notable performance in image processing and are used as representative core models. CNNs extract and learn features from large amounts of train dataset. In general, it has a structure in which a convolution layer and a fully connected layer are stacked. The core of CNN is the convolution layer. The size of the kernel used for feature extraction and the number that affect the depth of the feature map determine the amount of weight parameters of the CNN that can be learned. These parameters are the main causes of increasing the computational complexity and memory usage of the entire neural network. The most computationally expensive components in CNNs are fully connected and spatial convolution computations. In this paper, we propose a Fourier Convolution Neural Network that performs the operation of the convolution layer in the Fourier domain. We work on modifying and improving the amount of computation by applying the fast fourier transform method. Using the MNIST dataset, the performance was similar to that of the general CNN in terms of accuracy. In terms of operation speed, 7.2% faster operation speed was achieved. An average of 19% faster speed was achieved in experiments using 1024x1024 images and various sizes of kernels.

In this work, we have presented ATSA, a hierarchical attention deep learning model for Arabic sentiment analysis. ATSA was proposed by addressing several challenges and limitations that arise when applying the classical models to perform opinion mining in Arabic. Arabic-specific challenges including the morphological complexity and language sparsity were addressed by modeling semantic composition at the Arabic morphological analysis after performing tokenization. ATSA proposed to perform phrase-chunks sentiment embedding to provide a broader set of features that cover syntactic, semantic, and sentiment information. We used phrase structure parser to generate syntactic parse trees that are used as a reference for ATSA. This allowed modeling semantic and sentiment composition following the natural order in which words and phrase-chunks are combined in a sentence. The proposed model was evaluated on three Arabic corpora that correspond to different genres (newswire, online comments, and tweets) and different writing styles (MSA and dialectal Arabic). Experiments showed that each of the proposed contributions in ATSA was able to achieve significant improvement. The combination of all contributions, which makes up for the complete ATSA model, was able to improve the classification accuracy by 3% and 2% on Tweets and Hotel reviews datasets, respectively, compared to the existing models.
It is essential to investigate the structure and the main characteristic of Home USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technologies in built ubiquitous environment while designing future residential space. For this study, three different housing types have been selected to implement ubiquitous technologies for residential space; those are regular, elderly, and single residence units. It is certain that efficiency of ubiquitous home design is improved if main components of each specific housing type are analyzed precisely in digital way and design models are prepared accordingly. Ubiquitous technology, in conclusion, has to be applied not on)r with systematical mechanism or electronic setting but in human-centered atmosphere as well, keeping with deep consideration for bio-housing service factors in eco-friendly surrounding; we call this Ubiquitous Humanism.

Faced with the increasing demand for image recognition on mobile devices, how to run convolutional neural network (CNN) models on mobile devices with limited computing power and limited storage resources encourages people to study efficient model design. In recent years, many effective architectures have been proposed, such as mobilenet_v1, mobilenet_v2 and PeleeNet. However, in the process of feature selection, all these models neglect some information of shallow features, which reduces the capture of shallow feature location and semantics. In this study, we propose an effective framework based on Feature Pyramid Networks to improve the recognition accuracy of deep and shallow images while guaranteeing the recognition speed of PeleeNet structured images. Compared with PeleeNet, the accuracy of structure recognition on CIFA-10 data set increased by 4.0%.

In this paper, we propose a generative adversarial networks (GAN) based text-to-image generating method. In many natural language processing tasks, which word expressions are determined by their term frequency -inverse document frequency scores. Word2Vec is a type of neural network model that, in the case of an unlabeled corpus, produces a vector that expresses semantics for words in the corpus and an image is generated by GAN training according to the obtained vector. Thanks to the understanding of the word we can generate higher and more realistic images. Our GAN structure is based on deep convolution neural networks and pixel recurrent neural networks. Comparing the generated image with the real image, we get about 88% similarity on the Oxford-102 flowers dataset.
In this paper, we propose a performance improvement of the LwF method using efficient path selection in Continuous Learning Environment. We compare performance and structure with conventional LwF. For comparison, we experiment with performance using MNIST, EMNIST, Fashion MNIST, and CIFAR10 data with different complexity configurations. Experiments show up to 20% improvement in accuracy for each task, which mitigating the Catastrophic Forgetting phenomenon in Continuous Learning environments.

Due to the recent emphasis on carbon neutrality and environmental regulations, the global electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing rapid growth. This surge has raised concerns about the recycling and disposal methods for EV batteries. Unlike traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, EVs require unique and safe methods for the recovery and disposal of their batteries. In this process, predicting the lifespan of the battery is essential. Impedance and State of Charge (SOC) analysis are commonly used methods for this purpose. However, predicting the lifespan of batteries with complex chemical characteristics through electrical measurements presents significant challenges. To enhance the accuracy and precision of existing measurement methods, this paper proposes using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model, a type of deep learning-based recurrent neural network, to diagnose battery performance. The goal is to achieve safe classification through this model. The designed structure was evaluated, yielding results with a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.8451, a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 1.3448, and an accuracy of 0.984, demonstrating excellent performance.

Chloride is one of the most common threats to reinforced concrete (RC) durability. Alkaline environment of concrete makes a passive layer on the surface of reinforcement bars that prevents the bar from corrosion. However, when the chloride concentration amount at the reinforcement bar reaches a certain level, deterioration of the passive protection layer occurs, causing corrosion and ultimately reducing the structure's safety and durability. Therefore, understanding the chloride diffusion and its prediction are important to evaluate the safety and durability of RC structure. In this study, the chloride diffusion coefficient is predicted by machine learning techniques. Various machine learning techniques such as multiple linear regression, decision tree, random forest, support vector machine, artificial neural networks, extreme gradient boosting annd k-nearest neighbor were used and accuracy of there models were compared. In order to evaluate the accuracy, root mean square error (RMSE), mean square error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and coefficient of determination (R2) were used as prediction performance indices. The k-fold cross-validation procedure was used to estimate the performance of machine learning models when making predictions on data not used during training. Grid search was applied to hyperparameter optimization. It has been shown from numerical simulation that ensemble learning methods such as random forest and extreme gradient boosting successfully predicted the chloride diffusion coefficient and artificial neural networks also provided accurate result.

The vibration of microtubule in human cells is the source of electrical field around it and inside cell structure. The induction of electrical field is a direct result of the existence of dipoles on the surface of the microtubules. Measuring the electrical fields could be performed using nano-scale sensors and the data could be transformed to other computers using internet of things (IoT) technology. Processing these data is feasible by artificial intelligence-based methods. However, the first step in analyzing the vibrational behavior is to study the mechanics of microtubules. In this regard, the vibrational behavior of the microtubules is investigated in the present study. A shell model is utilized to represent the microtubules' structure. The displacement field is assumed to obey first order shear deformation theory and classical theory of elasticity for anisotropic homogenous materials is utilized. The governing equations obtained by Hamilton's principle are further solved using analytical method engaging Navier's solution procedure. The results of the analytical solution are used to train, validate and test of the deep neural network. The results of the present study are validated by comparing to other results in the literature. The results indicate that several geometrical and material factors affect the vibrational behavior of microtubules.
