An innovative tone modeling framework based on deep neural networks in tone recognition was proposed in this paper. In the framework, both the prosodic features and the articulatory features were firstly extracted as the raw input data. Then, a 5-layer-deep deep belief network was presented to obtain high-level tone features. Finally, support vector machine was trained to recognize tones. The 863-data corpus had been applied in experiments, and the results show that the proposed method helped improve the recognition accuracy significantly for all tone patterns. Meanwhile, the average tone recognition rate reached 83.03%, which is 8.61% higher than that of the original method.

The purpose of this study is to compare machine learning algorithm and deep learning algorithm in crop classification using multi-temporal remote sensing data. For this, impacts of machine learning and deep learning algorithms on (a) hyper-parameter and (2) training sample size were compared and analyzed for Haenam-gun, Korea and Illinois State, USA. In the comparison experiment, support vector machine (SVM) was applied as machine learning algorithm and convolutional neural network (CNN) was applied as deep learning algorithm. In particular, 2D-CNN considering 2-dimensional spatial information and 3D-CNN with extended time dimension from 2D-CNN were applied as CNN. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the hyper-parameter values of CNN, considering various hyper-parameter, defined in the two study areas were similar compared with SVM. Based on this result, although it takes much time to optimize the model in CNN, it is considered that it is possible to apply transfer learning that can extend optimized CNN model to other regions. Then, in the experiment results with various training sample size, the impact of that on CNN was larger than SVM. In particular, this impact was exaggerated in Illinois State with heterogeneous spatial patterns. In addition, the lowest classification performance of 3D-CNN was presented in Illinois State, which is considered to be due to over-fitting as complexity of the model. That is, the classification performance was relatively degraded due to heterogeneous patterns and noise effect of input data, although the training accuracy of 3D-CNN model was high. This result simply that a proper classification algorithms should be selected considering spatial characteristics of study areas. Also, a large amount of training samples is necessary to guarantee higher classification performance in CNN, particularly in 3D-CNN.

As machines have been automated in the field of industries in recent years, it is a paramount importance to manage and maintain the automation machines. When a fault occurs in sensors attached to the machine, the machine may malfunction and further, a huge damage will be caused in the process line. To prevent the situation, the fault of sensors should be monitored, diagnosed and classified in a proper way. In the paper, we propose a sensor fault detection scheme based on SVM and CNN to detect and classify typical sensor errors such as erratic, drift, hard-over, spike, and stuck faults. Time-domain statistical features are utilized for the learning and testing in the proposed scheme, and the genetic algorithm is utilized to select the subset of optimal features. To classify multiple sensor faults, a multi-layer SVM is utilized, and ensemble technique is used for CNN. As a result, the SVM that utilizes a subset of features selected by the genetic algorithm provides better performance than the SVM that utilizes all the features. However, the performance of CNN is superior to that of the SVM.

Crypto-mining malware (known as crypto-jacking) is a novel cyber-attack that exploits the victim's computing resources such as CPU and GPU to generate illegal cryptocurrency. The attacker get benefit from crypto-jacking by using someone else's mining hardware and their electricity power. This research focused on the possibility of detecting the potential crypto-mining malware in an environment by analyzing both static and dynamic approaches of deep learning. The Program Executable (PE) files were utilized with deep learning methods which are Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The finding revealed that LTSM outperformed both SVM and RF in static and dynamic approaches with percentage of 98% and 96%, respectively. Future studies will focus on detecting the malware using larger dataset to have more accurate and realistic results.

Speech can actively elicit feelings and attitudes by using words. It is important for researchers to identify the emotional content contained in speech signals as well as the sort of emotion that resulted from the speech that was made. In this study, we studied the emotion recognition system using a database in Arabic, especially in the Saudi dialect, the database is from a YouTube channel called Telfaz11, The four emotions that were examined were anger, happiness, sadness, and neutral. In our experiments, we extracted features from audio signals, such as Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) and Zero-Crossing Rate (ZCR), then we classified emotions using many classification algorithms such as machine learning algorithms (Support Vector Machine (SVM) and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN)) and deep learning algorithms such as (Convolution Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)). Our Experiments showed that the MFCC feature extraction method and CNN model obtained the best accuracy result with 95%, proving the effectiveness of this classification system in recognizing Arabic spoken emotions.
Korean semantic role labeling (SRL) is usually performed by a machine learning and requires a lot of corpus. However, the Korean PropBank used in Korean SRL system is less than PropBank. It leads to a low performance. Therefore, we expand the annotated corpus and verb frames for Korean SRL system to expand the Korean PropBank corpus. Most of the SRL system have a domain-dependent performance so, the performance may decrease if domain was changed. In this paper, we use the domain adaptation technique to reduce decreasing performance with the existing corpus and the small size of new domain corpus. We apply the domain adaptation technique to Structural SVM and Deep Neural Network. The experimental result show the effectiveness of the domain adaptation technique.
One of the most important research topics on intelligent transportation systems in recent years is detecting and recognizing a license plate. The license plate has a unique identification data on vehicle information. The existing vehicle traffic control system is based on a stop and uses a loop coil as a method of vehicle entrance/exit recognition. The method has the disadvantage of causing traffic jams and rising maintenance costs. We propose to exploit differential image of camera background instead of loop coil as an entrance/exit recognition method of vehicles. After entrance/exit recognition, we detect the candidate images of license plate using the morphological characteristics. The license plate can finally be detected using SVM(Support Vector Machine). Letter and numbers of the detected license plate are recognized using CNN(Convolutional Neural Network). The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a higher recognition rate than the existing license plate recognition algorithm.

Currently, soldiers enlisted in the military (Army) are receiving measurements (automatic, manual) of body parts and trying on sample clothing at boot training centers, and then receiving clothing in the desired size. Due to the low accuracy of the measured size during the measurement process, in the military, which uses a relatively more detailed sizing system than civilian casual clothes, the supplied clothes do not fit properly, so the frequency of changing the clothes is very frequent. In addition, there is a problem in that inventory is managed inefficiently by applying the measurement system based on the old generation body shape data collected more than a decade ago without reflecting the western-changed body type change of the MZ generation. That is, military uniforms of the necessary size are insufficient, and many unnecessary-sized military uniforms are in stock. Therefore, in order to reduce the frequency of clothing replacement and improve the efficiency of stock management, deep learning-based automatic measurement of body size, big data analysis, and machine learning-based "Personalized Combat Uniform Automatic Recommendation System for Enlisted Soldiers" is proposed.
Background: Identification of radioisotopes for plastic scintillation detectors is challenging because their spectra have poor energy resolutions and lack photo peaks. To overcome this weakness, many researchers have conducted radioisotope identification studies using machine learning algorithms; however, the effect of data normalization on radioisotope identification has not been addressed yet. Furthermore, studies on machine learning-based radioisotope identifiers for plastic scintillation detectors are limited. Materials and Methods: In this study, machine learning-based radioisotope identifiers were implemented, and their performances according to data normalization methods were compared. Eight classes of radioisotopes consisting of combinations of 22Na, 60Co, and 137Cs, and the background, were defined. The training set was generated by the random sampling technique based on probabilistic density functions acquired by experiments and simulations, and test set was acquired by experiments. Support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), and convolutional neural network (CNN) were implemented as radioisotope identifiers with six data normalization methods, and trained using the generated training set. Results and Discussion: The implemented identifiers were evaluated by test sets acquired by experiments with and without gain shifts to confirm the robustness of the identifiers against the gain shift effect. Among the three machine learning-based radioisotope identifiers, prediction accuracy followed the order SVM > ANN > CNN, while the training time followed the order SVM > ANN > CNN. Conclusion: The prediction accuracy for the combined test sets was highest with the SVM. The CNN exhibited a minimum variation in prediction accuracy for each class, even though it had the lowest prediction accuracy for the combined test sets among three identifiers. The SVM exhibited the highest prediction accuracy for the combined test sets, and its training time was the shortest among three identifiers.

Recently, high-resolution images can be easily acquired using UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), so that it is possible to produce small area observation and spatial information at low cost. In particular, research on the generation of cover maps in crop production areas is being actively conducted for monitoring the agricultural environment. As a result of comparing classification performance by applying RF(Random Forest), SVM(Support Vector Machine) and CNN(Convolutional Neural Network), deep learning classification method has many advantages in image classification. In particular, land cover classification using satellite images has the advantage of accuracy and time of classification using satellite image data set and pre-trained parameters. However, UAV images have different characteristics such as satellite images and spatial resolution, which makes it difficult to apply them. In order to solve this problem, we conducted a study on the application of deep learning algorithms that can be used for analyzing agricultural lands where UAV data sets and small-scale composite cover exist in Korea. In this study, we applied DeepLab V3 +, FC-DenseNet (Fully Convolutional DenseNets) and FRRN-B (Full-Resolution Residual Networks), the semantic image classification of the state-of-art algorithm, to UAV data set. As a result, DeepLab V3 + and FC-DenseNet have an overall accuracy of 97% and a Kappa coefficient of 0.92, which is higher than the conventional classification. The applicability of the cover classification using UAV images of small areas is shown.
