  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyse and review deep learning convolutional neural networks for detecting and diagnosing early-stage dental caries on periapical radiographs. Materials and Methods: In order to conduct this review, the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA) guidelines were followed. Studies published from 2015 to 2021 under the keywords(deep convolutional neural network) AND (caries), (deep learning caries) AND (convolutional neural network) AND (caries) were systematically reviewed. Results: When dental caries is improperly diagnosed, the lesion may eventually invade the enamel, dentin, and pulp tissue, leading to loss of tooth function. Rapid and precise detection and diagnosis are vital for implementing appropriate prevention and treatment of dental caries. Radiography and intraoral images are considered to play a vital role in detecting dental caries; nevertheless, studies have shown that 20% of suspicious areas are mistakenly diagnosed as dental caries using this technique; hence, diagnosis via radiography alone without an objective assessment is inaccurate. Identifying caries with a deep convolutional neural network-based detector enables the operator to distinguish changes in the location and morphological features of dental caries lesions. Deep learning algorithms have broader and more profound layers and are continually being developed, remarkably enhancing their precision in detecting and segmenting objects. Conclusion: Clinical applications of deep learning convolutional neural networks in the dental field have shown significant accuracy in detecting and diagnosing dental caries, and these models hold promise in supporting dental practitioners to improve patient outcomes.

  • Recently deep learning techniques such as convolutional neural networks (CNN) have been introduced to classify high-resolution remote sensing data. In this paper, we investigated the possibility of applying CNN to crop classification of farmland images captured by drones. The farming area was divided into seven classes: rice field, sweet potato, red pepper, corn, sesame leaf, fruit tree, and vinyl greenhouse. We performed image pre-processing and normalization to apply CNN, and the accuracy of image classification was more than 98%. With the output of this study, it is expected that the transition from the existing image classification methods to the deep learning based image classification methods will be facilitated in a fast manner, and the possibility of success can be confirmed.

  • Network Intrusion detection is a rapidly growing field of information security due to its importance for modern IT infrastructure. Many supervised and unsupervised learning techniques have been devised by researchers from discipline of machine learning and data mining to achieve reliable detection of anomalies. In this paper, a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) based intrusion detection system (IDS) is proposed, implemented and analyzed. Deep CNN core of proposed IDS is fine-tuned using Randomized search over configuration space. Proposed system is trained and tested on NSLKDD training and testing datasets using GPU. Performance comparisons of proposed DCNN model are provided with other classifiers using well-known metrics including Receiver operating characteristics (RoC) curve, Area under RoC curve (AuC), accuracy, precision-recall curve and mean average precision (mAP). The experimental results of proposed DCNN based IDS shows promising results for real world application in anomaly detection systems.

  • Image compression plays an important role in encoding and improving various forms of images in the digital era. Recent researches have focused on the principle of deep learning as one of the most exciting machine learning methods to show that it is good scheme to analyze, classify and compress images. Various neural networks are able to adapt for image compressions, such as deep neural networks, artificial neural networks, recurrent neural networks and convolution neural networks. In this review paper, we discussed how to apply the rule of deep learning to obtain better image compression with high accuracy, low loss-ness and high visibility of the image. For those results in performance, deep learning methods are required on justified manner with distinct analysis.

  • Deep Learning is one of the machine learning methods to find features from a huge data using non-linear transformation. It is now commonly used for supervised learning in many fields. In particular, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is the best technique for the image classification since 2012. For users who consider deep learning models for real-world applications, Keras is a popular API for neural networks written in Python and also can be used in R. We try examine the parameter estimation procedures of Deep Neural Network and structures of CNN models from basics to advanced techniques. We also try to figure out some crucial steps in CNN that can improve image classification performance in the CIFAR10 dataset using Keras. We found that several stacks of convolutional layers and batch normalization could improve prediction performance. We also compared image classification performances with other machine learning methods, including K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN), Random Forest, and XGBoost, in both MNIST and CIFAR10 dataset.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to enhance the accuracy score of personal credit scoring using the convolutional neural networks and secure the transparency of the deep learning model using eXplainalbe Artifical Inteligence(XAI) technique. Design/methodology/approach This study built a classification model by using the convolutional neural networks(CNN) and applied a methodology that is transformation of numerical data to imaged data to apply CNN on personal credit data. Then layer-wise relevance propagation(LRP) was applied to model we constructed to find what variables are more influenced to the output value. Findings According to the empirical analysis result, this study confirmed that accuracy score by model using CNN is highest among other models using logistic regression, neural networks, and support vector machines. In addition, With the LRP that is one of the technique of XAI, variables that have a great influence on calculating the output value for each observation could be found.

  • This paper proposes a method of recognition abandoned objects using convolutional neural networks. The method first detects an area for an abandoned object in image and, if there is a detected area, applies convolutional neural networks to that area to recognize which object is represented. Experiments were conducted through an application system that detects illegal trash dumping. The experiments result showed the area of abandoned object was detected efficiently. The detected areas enter the input of convolutional neural networks and are classified into whether it is a trash or not. To do this, I trained convolutional neural networks with my own trash dataset and open database. As a training result, I achieved high accuracy for the test set not included in the training set.

  • At present, deep convolutional neural networks have made a very important contribution in single-image super-resolution. Through the learning of the neural networks, the features of input images are transformed and combined to establish a nonlinear mapping of low-resolution images to high-resolution images. Some previous methods are difficult to train and take up a lot of memory. In this paper, we proposed a simple and compact deep recursive residual network learning the features for single image super resolution. Global residual learning and local residual learning are used to reduce the problems of training deep neural networks. And the recursive structure controls the number of parameters to save memory. Experimental results show that the proposed method improved image qualities that occur in previous methods.

  • In this paper, a vehicle recognition algorithm based on deep convolutional neural network and compression dictionary is proposed. Firstly, the network structure of fine vehicle recognition based on convolutional neural network is introduced. Then, a vehicle recognition system based on multi-scale pyramid convolutional neural network is constructed. The contribution of different networks to the recognition results is adjusted by the adaptive fusion method that adjusts the network according to the recognition accuracy of a single network. The proportion of output in the network output of the entire multiscale network. Then, the compressed dictionary learning and the data dimension reduction are carried out using the effective block structure method combined with very sparse random projection matrix, which solves the computational complexity caused by high-dimensional features and shortens the dictionary learning time. Finally, the sparse representation classification method is used to realize vehicle type recognition. The experimental results show that the detection effect of the proposed algorithm is stable in sunny, cloudy and rainy weather, and it has strong adaptability to typical application scenarios such as occlusion and blurring, with an average recognition rate of more than 95%.

  • In this paper, we propose a revised Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) model to extract Protein-Protein Interaction (PPIs) from the scientific literature. The proposed method has the merit of improving performance by applying various global features in addition to the simple lexical features used in conventional relation extraction approaches. In the experiments using AIMed, which is the most famous collection used for PPI extraction, the proposed model shows state-of-the art scores (78.0 F-score) revealing the best performance so far in this domain. Also, the paper shows that, without conducting feature engineering using complicated language processing, convolutional neural networks with embedding can achieve superior PPIE performance.
