  • TFLIM(Transverse Flux Linear Induction Motor), making its closed magnetic path with the direction of the traveling field orthogonal, had been developed to decrease an edge effect of the general induction motor. To control the levitation force and the thrust force on the secondary part of TFLIM independently, the various methodologies have been presented. When we try to achieve the independent control using only the multi-phase inputs assigned in the stator coils as an approach, in which condition we can minimize the coupling effect between two forces\ulcorner In this paper, we show the qualitative influence of a slip frequency, an ac magnitude, a dc offset superposed in the ac power, and a major parameter of TFLIM on the couple through the computer simulation. And to realize the independent motions between levitation and thrust motion without any auxiliary means fur isolation of the secondary part of TFLIM, the decouple compensator is suggested, including the experimental results.

  • This paper reports a Surge Protective Device (SPD) that is used to protect an automatic metering interface (AMI) power supplies of communication equipment on a low-voltage distribution system from a lightning current. The surge protective device (SPD) can be classified as one-port SPDs and two-port SPDs with decoupling elements depending on the connection type. The protection of internal systems against the lightning current may require a systematic approach consisting of coordinated SPDs. To deal with this, the definition of a lightning protection zone (LPZ) was studied and interpreted through a theoretical review. Because the lightning current resulting from a lightning surge is considerably high, there is limited protection from one SPD; therefore, coordinated cascaded MOV-based SPDs are installed to solve this problem. Regarding the power grid mentioned in this paper, a class II SPD for the low-voltage distribution system installed on the border of LPZ1 and LPZ2, which establish a protection coordination with the Arrester (LA, SA) that corresponds to the LPZO installed on the MOF stage connected to one system were designed to protect various communication (control) equipment, including the automatic meter reading system inside the branch-type electric supply panel of a building, not the incoming side of one system. In addition, performance-related tests were done by a comparison with the existing method through testing, and the optimal design was achieved for the 1-port SPD that uses a series connection and can bleed load current without any decoupling element.

  • This paper presents a novel method of slip-compensation for rotor time constant variation in indirect field orientation control of induction motor drives. In field oriented control due to variation of rotor time constant, decoupling between the flux and torque components of stator current is lost and hence, the performance of operation of the machine deteriorates. To solve the problem, the q-axis is aligned to reference frame without phase difference by comparing the real flux component with the reference flux component. Then to compensate the slip, PI controller is used. The proposed method keeps a constant slip by compensating the gain of direct slip frequency when the rotor resistance of induction motor varies. To prove the validations of the proposed algorithm in the paper, computer simulations and experiments are executed.

  • This paper presents a vector control implementation for SPMSM(Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) using dSPACE 1104 system and MATLAB/SIMULINK. SPMSM can be treated as a DC motor provided that currents of flux and torque component are controlled independently using vector control. Therefore various control algorithms for conventional DC motor control can be adopted to SPMSM. The system is designed to improve set-point tracking capability, fast response, and accuracy In This paper, d-q equivalent modeling of PMSM is derived based on vector control theory. PI controller is used for speed control and decoupling PI controller is used for current control. For the implementation of high performance vector control system, dSPACE 1104 system is used. Experiments were carried out to examine validity of the proposed vector control implementation.

  • Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have been receiving extensive research interest in high/medium-voltage applications due to its modularity, scalability, reliability, high-voltage capability, and excellent harmonic performance. Submodule capacitors are usually rather bulky because they have to withstand fundamental frequency voltage fluctuations. To reduce the capacitance of these capacitors, this study proposes a modified MMC with an active power decoupling circuit within each submodule. The modified submodule contains an auxiliary half bridge, with its capacitor split in two. Also, the midpoints of the half bridge and the split capacitors are connected by an inductor. With this modified submodule, the fundamental frequency voltage fluctuation can be suppressed to a great extent. The second-order voltage fluctuation, which is the second most significant component in submodule voltage fluctuations, is removed by the proper control of the second-order circulating current. Consequently, the submodule capacitance is significantly reduced. The viability and effectiveness of the proposed new MMC are confirmed by the simulation and experimental results. The proposed MMC is best suited for medium-voltage applications where power density is given a high priority.

  • Interest in the integrated capacitors, which make it possible to reduce the size of and to obtain improved electrical performance of an electronic system, is expanding. In this study, $Ta_2$O\ulcorner thin film capacitors for MCM integrated capacitors were fabricated on a Upilex-S polymer film by DC magnetron reactive sputtering and the effects of low temperature annealing at various atmospheres and substrate surface morphology on the capacitor characteristics were discussed. The low temperature($150^{\circ}C$) annealing produced improved capacitor yield irrespective of the annealing at mosphere. But the leakage current of the $O_2$-annealed film was larger than that of any other films. This is presumably mosphere. But the leakage current of the $O_2$-annealed film was larger than that of any other films. This is presumably due to the change of the $Ta_2$O\ulcorner film surface by oxygen, which was explained by conduction mechanism study. Leakage current and breakdown field strength of the capacitors fabricated on the Upilex-S film were 7.27$\times$10\ulcornerA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 1.0 MV/cm respectively. These capacitor characteristics were inferior to those of the capacitors fabricated on the Si substrate but enough to be used for decoupling capacitors in multilayer package. Roughness Analysis of each layer by AFM demonstrated that the properties of the capacitors fabricated on the polymer film were affected by the surface morphology of the substrate. This substrate effect could be classified into two factors. One is the surface morphology of the polymer film and the other is the surface morphology of the metal bottom electrode determined by the deposition process. Therefore, the control of the two factors is important to obtain improved electrical of capacitors deposited on a polymer film.

  • The arc welding processes are substantially nonlinear, in addition to being highly coupled multivariable systems, Frequently, not all the variables affecting the welding quality are known, nor may they be easily quantified. From this point of view, decoupling between the welding parameters from the welding quality is very difficult, which makes it also difficult to control the welding parameters for obtaining the desired welding quality. In this study, a neural network based on the backpropagation algorithm was implemented and adopted for the selection of gas metal arc welding parameters of the fillet joint, that is, welding current, arc voltage and welding speed. The performance of the neural network for modeling the relationship between the welding quality and welding parameters was presented and evaluated by using the actual welding data. To obtain the optimal neural network structure, various types of the neural network structures were tested with the experimental data. It was revealed that the neural network can be effectively adopted to select the appropriate gas metal arc welding parameter of fillet joints for a given weld quality.

  • This paper proposes a method taking advantage of Fog computing and SDN in the connected vehicle environment which is having an unstable communication channel and a dynamic topology. For this purpose, the controller should understand the current state of the overall network by maintaining recent network topology, especially, the mobility information of mobile nodes. These are managed by the controller, and are important in unstable conditions in the mobile environment. The mobility levels are divided into 3 categories. We can efficiently exploit that information. By utilizing network state information, we suggest two outcomes. First, we reduce the control message overhead by adjusting the period of beacon messages. Second, we propose a recovery process to prepare the communication failure. We can efficiently recover connection failure through mobility information. Furthermore, we suggest a path recovery by decoupling the cloud level and the fog level in accordance with application data types. The simulation results show that the control message overhead and the connection failure time are decreased by approximately 55% and 5%, respectively in comparison to the existing method.
