Fast Intra Mode Decision Algorithm for Depth Map Coding using Texture Information in 3D-AVC (3D-AVC에서 색상 영상 정보를 이용한 깊이 영상의 빠른 화면 내 예측 모드 결정 기법)

  • The 3D-AVC standard aims at improving coding efficiency by applying new techniques for utilizing intra, inter and view predictions. 3D video scenes are rendered with existing texture video and additional depth map. The depth map comes at the expense of increased computational complexity of the encoding process. For real-time applications, reducing the complexity of 3D-AVC is very important. In this paper, we present a fast intra mode decision algorithm to reduce the complexity burden in the 3D video system. The proposed algorithm uses similarity between texture video and depth map. The best intra prediction mode of the depth map is similar to that of the corresponding texture video. The early decision algorithm can be made on the intra prediction of depth map coding by using the coded intra mode of texture video. Adaptive threshold for early termination is also proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm saves the encoding time on average 29.7% without any significant loss in terms of the bit rate or PSNR value.

Improved MOG Algorithm for Periodic Background (주기성 배경을 위한 개선된 MOG 알고리즘)

  • In a conventional MOG algorithm, a small threshold for background decision causes the background recognition delay in a periodic background and a large threshold makes it recognize passing objects as background in a stationary background. This paper proposes the improved MOG algorithm using adaptive threshold. The proposed algorithm estimates changes of weight in the dominant model of the MOG algorithm both in the short and long terms, classifies backgrounds into the stationary and periodic ones, and assigns proper thresholds to them. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm decreases the maximum number of frame in background recognition delay from 137 to 4 in the periodic background keeping the equal performance with the conventional algorithm in the stationary background.

  • The Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) networks are being adopted as backbones over various parts of Internet. Also, TCP is one of the most widespread transport protocols, nowadays. It can be used with ATM. But, TCP shows poor end-to-end performance on ATM networks. Effective throughput of TCP over ATM can be quite low when cells are dropped at the congested ATM switch. The low throughput is due to wasted bandwidth as congested link transmits cells from corrupted packets. This paper examines the behavior of TCP over ATM-UBR using EPD switch in a broadband environment. With a threshold close to the buffer size, the buffer can be used more efficiently, but more drops and retransmission occurs. If the threshold is much less than buffer size, efficient is not good, but few drops can happen. Therefore, decision of the threshold is important.

  • This study deals with an on-line software fault detection, localization, and system reconfiguration method for electrical system drives composed of three-phase AC/DC/AC converters and three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drives. Current sensor failure (outage), speed/position sensor loss (disconnection), and damaged DC-link voltage sensor are considered faults. The occurrence of these faults in PMSM drive systems degrades system performance and affects the safety, maintenance, and service continuity of the electrical system drives. The proposed method is based on the monitoring signals of "abc" currents, DC-link voltage, and rotor speed/position using a measurement chain. The listed signals are analyzed and evaluated with the generated residuals and threshold values obtained from a Sliding Mode Current-Speed-DC-link Voltage Observer (SMCSVO) to acquire an on-line fault decision. The novelty of the method is the faults diagnosis algorithm that combines the use of SMCSVO and adaptive thresholds; thus, the number of false alarms is reduced, and the reliability and robustness of the fault detection system are guaranteed. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm's performance is experimentally analyzed and tested in real time using a dSPACE DS 1104 digital signal processor board.

  • 일반적으로 의사결정의 대상이 되는 현실 시스템은 매우 가변적 (variable)이며 때로는 많은 불확실성(uncertainty)이 포함된 상황에 놓일 수 있다. 이러한 문제의 처리를 위한 통계적 방법으로 유의수준이나 확신도, 민감도 분석 등이 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 근접관계 행렬에서 근접도를 구하는 방법으로 상대적 해밍거리와 max-min방법을 이용한 다음, 다중임계치를 사용하여 최적구간분할을 하는 방법을 제안한다. 결과적으로 max-min방법을 이용하여 다중임계치을 적용한 근접관계의 분류가 상대적 해밍거리로 근접도를 구하여 다중임계치를 구하는 방법보다 계산과정이 더 간단하고 명확하며 분할과정을 줄일 수 있고 최적의 의사결정에 효율적이라는 것을 알 수 있다.

NDynamic Framework for Secure VM Migration over Cloud Computing

  • In the centralized cloud controlled environment, the decision-making and monitoring play crucial role where in the host controller (HC) manages the resources across hosts in data center (DC). HC does virtual machine (VM) and physical hosts management. The VM management includes VM creation, monitoring, and migration. If HC down, the services hosted by various hosts in DC can't be accessed outside the DC. Decentralized VM management avoids centralized failure by considering one of the hosts from DC as HC that helps in maintaining DC in running state. Each host in DC has many VM's with the threshold limit beyond which it can't provide service. To maintain threshold, the host's in DC does VM migration across various hosts. The data in migration is in the form of plaintext, the intruder can analyze packet movement and can control hosts traffic. The incorporation of security mechanism on hosts in DC helps protecting data in migration. This paper discusses an approach for dynamic HC selection, VM selection and secure VM migration over cloud environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the critical flood discharge and flash flood trigger rainfall for alarm system providing for a flash flood in mountainous. This study was effectively estimated a topographic characteristic factor of basin using the GIS. Especially, decided stream order using GIS at stream order decision that is important for input variable of GCIUH. Result that calculate threshold discharge to use GCIUH, at the Mureung valley basin, flash flood trigger rainfall was 16.34mm in the first 20 minutes when the threshold discharge was $14.54\;m^3/sec$.

  • In this study, we propose the unsupervised image segmentation algorithm to estimate dental plaque accumulations on digital imaging with methylene blue disclosed plaque. With this aim, RGB color plane is mapped into HSI coordinates and the circular histogram of Hue is reconstructed by applying Otsu's threshold level. The histogram distribution on Saturation features is also analyzed by maximizing the variance between a plaque candidate and non-plaque one. The dental plaque regions are resolved by applying the composite decision logics based on the threshold level of Hue and Saturation.

Cooperative Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio Networks with Limited Reporting

  • Cooperative spectrum sensing increases the detection performance in a cognitive radio network, based on the number of sensing nodes. However, as the number of sensing nodes increases, the reporting overhead linearly increases. This paper proposes two kinds of cooperative spectrum sensing with limited reporting in a centralized cognitive radio network, a soft combination with threshold-based reporting (SC-TR) and a soft combination with contention-based reporting (SC-CR). In the proposed SC-TR scheme, each sensing node reports its sensing result to the fusion center through its own reporting channel only if the observed energy value is higher than a decision threshold. In the proposed SC-CR scheme, sensing nodes compete to report their sensing results via shared reporting channels. The simulation results show that the proposed schemes significantly reduce the reporting overhead without sacrificing the detection performance too much.

  • In this paper a characteristics of image which can be segmented based on the thresholding technique using a histogram was investigated employing 3 parameters: the variance of pixel value, the average mean difference between target and background and the target size. The threshold value for the histogram segmentation was determined by applying the hypothesis testing theory. The performance of the selected threshold was evaluated by computing a probability of error. Since a priori probability can be easily obtained from the histogram, it was found that the Bayes decision rule which theoretically guarantees the minimum probability of error works better than the minimax criterion rule.
