In this paper, a decentralized multilevel-adaptive controller for a boiler-turbine system is designed by using multiple model adaptive method. It is applied to the drum type boiler-turbine system which is simplified from Boryung T/P #1,2 model. A linearlized model is decomposed into three subsystems by means of linear transformation. Then the DMC based on such subsystem is designed and a Multiple Model Adaptive Control(MMAC) scheme is applied for the purpose of the good tracking to variable load demands of the thermal power plant. The good performance of the designed controller is shown by simulations in various conditions that have the large step and ramp change of power demamd.

This paper presents a decentralized controller design for formation flying of multiple satellites based on the overlapping decomposition technique. Each satellite is assumed to avail only the information of its own and in front of itself, which restricts the structure of a controller gain matrix to an overlapped form. The concerned large-scale system is expanded using the overlapping decomposition technique. Design condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities with small-scale systems in a decentralized form, based on the expanded system. The resulting controller is contracted to the original overlapped form so as to close the original system. A numerical simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
In this paper, we present a decentralized adaptive neural net(NN) controller for the transient stability and voltage regulation of a multimachine power system. First, an adaptively input-output linearizing controller using NN is designed to eliminate the nonlinearities and interactions between generators. Then, a robust control term which bounds terminal voltage to a neighborhood of the operating point within the desired value is introduced using only local information. In addition, we consider input saturation which exists in the SCR amplifier and prove that the stability of the overall closed-loop system is maintained regardless of the input saturation. The design procedure is tested on a two machine infinite bus power system.
This paper presents a decentralized adaptive controller design for a Magnetically Levitated Fine Manipulator to follow the given trajectory as close as possible in spite of coupling effects between motion axes(degree of freedoms or subsystems). The present controller consists of two parts: the model reference controls based on known subsystems and the local adaptive controls. The former stabilizes the motion of the manipulator so as to follow that of the reference model. The latter reduces tracking errors due to coupling disturbances by adjusting the local gains to such levels that override interactions and assure the stability of the overall system. Through several experimental results, it has been shown that the decentralized adaptive control scheme has better tracking performances comparing to the PID controller case as well as good disturbance(coupling) rejection property.

In this paper, a decentralized fuzzy output feedback controller for the nonlinear networked control system is proposed for wireless sensor network. Especially, it is assumed that the networked control system has the output packet loss and the input transmission failure. For the fuzzy control of the nonlinear subsystem, it presents Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model of each subsystem and it designs the decentralized fuzzy output feedback controller. The stability condition of the closed-loop system with the proposed controller is obtained by Lyapunov functional. The obtained stability condition is represented to the linear matrix inequality (LMI) form, and the control gain is obtained by LMI. An example is given to show the verification discussed throughout the paper.
For large-scale systems which are composed of interconnections of many lower-dimensional subsystems, decentralized control is preferable since it can alleviate the computational burden, avoid communication between different subsystems, and make the control more feasible and simpler. A power system is such a large-scale system where generators are interconnected through transmission lines. Decentralized control is therefore considered for power systems. In this paper, a robust decentralized excitation control scheme for interactions is proposed to enhance the transient stability of multimachine power systems. First we employ a DFL(Direct Feedback Linearization) compensator to rancel most of the nonlinearities; however, the resulting model still contains nonlinear interconnections. Therefore, we design a robust controller in order to deal with Interconnection terms. In this procedure, an upper bound of interconnection terms is estimated by an estimator. The resulting adaptive scheme guarantees the uniform ultimate boundedness of the closed-loop dynamic systems in the presence of the uncertainties.

The paper describes some of the challenges that face the control of nonlinear interconnected power systems. The challenges include the selection of appropriate control and information structures that could range from a completely decentralized to a fully centralized structure. Once a structure is proven to be feasible, the effectiveness of control signals needs to be assessed. Analytical tools are derived for this purpose in the first part of the paper, and they are illustrated with a case study that involves the design of a damping decentralized controller using a Thyristor Controlled Series Compensation device. The second part of the paper deals with the load following and tracking problem through automatic generation control for a system that has been re-structured or deregulated. This problem can be solved using a completely decentralized scheme. It is solved here using fuzzy rules and with an emphasis on compliance with NERC's standards and reduction of wear and tear of the equipment. It is illustrated with a test system that has three interconnected control areas. Finally, comments on the economics of control and the author's vision are presented.

In this paper, an application of a decentralized $H_{\infty}$ controller(DHC) to multiple controlled-permanent magnet(CMAG) magnetic levitation(Maglev) systems is presented. The designed DHC using two Riccati equations iteratively has simpler structure and needs less computational loads than conventional centralized $H_{\infty}$ controller. A target plant is a hybrid-type CMAG system with permanent magnet and coil, and its mathematical model is firstly derived to design the DHC. To implement the designed algorithm, a real Maglev vehicle system including digital controller, chopper, sensor, etc., is manufactured. To compare the performances of the DHC method with an observer-based state feedback control(OSFC), the input tracking and disturbance rejection characteristics are experimentally tested. As performance indices(PI), integral of squared error(ISE), integral of absolute error(IAE), integral of time multiplied by absolute error(ITAE) and integral of time multiplied by squared error(ITSE) are used. From the experimental results, it can be seen that the input tracking and disturbance rejection performances of the DHC are better than those of the conventional controller.

This paper discusses a decentralized sampled-data control problem for large-scale nonlinear systems. The system is represented in Takagi-Sugeno's form. Next, we design a decentralized analog controller based on the overlapping decomposition technique. The final step is to apply the intelligent digital redesign scheme for converting the analog controller into the sampled-data one. Design condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. A simulation result is provided for the effectiveness of the proposed design method.
