  • The effects of $\alpha$- and $\beta$-cyclodextrins (CD) on the twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) behavior of p-N,N'-dimethylaminobenzoic acid (DMABA) in buffered aqueous solution have been investigated by examining formation and decay behaviors of the TICT-typical dual fluorescence. The ratio of the TICT emission to the normal emission (I$_a$/I$_b$) increases linearly $\alpha$-CD concentration increases, while in the presence of $\beta$-CD it shows nonlinear dependences on the CD concentration. The analysis of the CD-dependent changes of the I$_a$/I$_b$ and absorption spectra demonstrates formation of 1:1 inclusion complexes between DMABA and CDs. The decay time of the normal emission (ca. 700 ps) is little affected by the formation of $\alpha$-CD inclusion complex, whereas it increases upto ca. 1.6 ns upon formation of $\beta$-CD inclusion complex. The TICT emission for the $\beta$-CD inclusion complex exhibits two decay components while it shows a single component for the $\alpha$-CD inclusion complex, indicating formation of one or two types of inclusion complex in the presence of $\alpha$-CD or $\beta$-CD, respectively. These results are attributed to the CD cavity size dependence on patterns of complexation between CDs and DMABA. The CD size dependences of the TICT fluorescence properties with the orientation of the guest molecule demonstrate that the specific hydrogen bonding between the carboxylic acid group and water plays an important role in the excited-state TICT.

  • A confocal microscope system was used to study the bursts of fluorescence photons from single dye molecules excited at 638 nm by a short-pulsed diode laser with a repetition rate of 17 MHz. A red dye, JA22, in ethylene glycol solution was used as a sample. The fluorescence decay curves of single molecules were acquired using a time-correlated single photon counting and analyzed by a maximum likelihood estimator. It was possible to measure the fluorescence decay times with an error probability of 21% at photon number of more than 40 per dye molecule.

  • The chlorine's residual concentration prevents the regrowth of microorganism in water transport along the pipeline system. Precise prediction of chlorine concentration is important in determining disinfectant injection for the water distribution system. In this study, a pilot scale water distribution system was designed and fabricated to measure the temporal variation of chlorine concentration for three flow conditions (V = 0.88, 1.33, 1.95 m/s). Various kinetic models were applied to identify the relationship between hydraulic condition and chlorine decay. Genetic Algorithm (GA) was integrated into five kinetic models and time series of chlorine were used to calibrate parameters. Model fitness was compared by Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) between measurement and prediction. Limited first order model and Parallel first order showed good fitness for prediction of chlorine concentration.

  • In this paper, spatial decay estimates for the time dependent compressible viscous isentropic flow in a semi-infinite three dimensional pipe are derived. An upper bound for the total energy in terms of the initial boundary data is obtained as well. The results established in this paper may be viewed as a version of Saint-Venant's principle in transient compressible Navier-Stokes flow.

  • As wind farm outputs depend on natural wind resources that vary over space and time, spatial correlation analysis is needed to estimate power outputs of wind generation resources. As a result, geographic information such as latitude and longitude plays a key role to estimate power outputs of spatially distributed wind farms. In this paper, we introduce spatial correlation analysis to estimate the power outputs produced by wind farms that are geographically distributed. We present spatial correlation analysis of empirical power output data for the JEJU Island and ERCOT ISO (Texas) wind farms and propose the Correlation Decay Distance (CoDecDist) model based on geographic correlation analysis to enhance the estimation of wind power outputs.

  • Charge decay, thermally stimulated current (TSC), charging and discharging currents(I) are measured for corona-charged composite insulating materials. In this study, We will make an experiment in charge decay on composite material surface, TSC, polarity effect and the others in order to analysis its mechanism. Especially, Fiber glass Reinforced Plastics(FRP) is the best composite material which has been so far. Therefore, Its worthy of notice to investigate its characteristic. And then some other materials will be focused on. This experiment measured characteristic of charge decay, dependence of discharging-time and other electrostatic characteristics on FRP.

  • This paper deals with the change of surface Potential decay, surface resistivity, contact an91e and XPS of ultraviolet-treated PET films. From the experimental results on the surface Potential decay of UV degraded-samples, it was found that the accumulation of charge is decreased and the surface potential decay time is shortened. Also, from the result of XPS, it was found that the changes affected by the surface degradation of PET film were caused by the generation of carboxyl groups through the chain decomposition and recombination with oxygen molecules in the air.

  • $YAlO_3:Tb{_x}^{3+}$ has been synthesized by a combustion process and the concentration x of Tb was varied from 0.001 and 0.05 mol% per mole of $YAlO_3$. The emission optical properties on the $YAlO_3:Tb{_x}^{3+}$ have been investigated by time-resolved photoluminescence spectra and decay curves of center wavelength. The emission color changes from blue to green with increasing the $Tb^{3+}$ concentration from x= 0.001 to 0.05 mole fraction in $YAlO_3$ host. This emission color change can be explained in terms of cross-relaxation processes. Decay curves of emission intensity indicate that the type of energy transfer is donor-acceptor transition.

  • This paper describes the generation and decay phenomena of gas, vapor and particulate phase components of environmental tobacco smoke in 18 m3 controlled experimental atmosphere chamber. Real time-weighted average concentration ratios of markers were determinated at no ventilation rates and sampling durations of starting to smoking 45 min. Average concentration of major ETS markers was no significant on the mainstream smoke contents of commercial cigarette and decay ratios were dependent on first order kinetic. RSP/nicotine, solanesol and 3-EP were good predictors of ETS concentration in the public indoor field. The concentration ratio of vapor phase and particulate phase components is highly variable to assessment of indoor air quality with ETS. Key words : ETS, chamber study, ETS markers.

  • The production and decomposition of litters and nutrient cycling of forests were studied at the pine forests such as Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida, Pinus thunbergii, Abies holophylla and Larix kaempfer. The annual litter production of the P. densiflora forest was the most on Mt. Mudeung which was 620.75g/$m^2$ and the least on Mt. Halla which was 155.00g/$m^2$. The decay rate of litters was the highest at the P. densiflora forest on Mt. Mudeung which was k=0.256 and the lowest at the P. densiflora forest on Mt. Halla and A. holophylla on Mt. Jiri which were k=0.099. The half time of decomposition of litters was shortest at the P. densiflora forest on Mt. Mudeung and the longest at the P. densiflora on Mt. Halla and A. holophylla forests on Mt. Jiri. The average decay rate of the L. kaempferi forests which was k=0.204 was the highest and that of the A. holophylla forests which was k=0.122 was the lowest. The decay rate tended to decrease against increasing the altitude. The annual production of litterr, the contents of mineral nutrients and the amounts of mineral nutrients inputted into the forest soil tended to increase in proportion to the decay rate, k.
