Average amounts of total storage for aluminum in Z japonica and M. sinensis grasslands were 8,426mg /$m^2$ and 7,849mg /$m^2$ respectively. Decay constants estimated on the base of experimental and mathematical model, were 0.04 in Z japonica grassland, and 0.08 in M. sinensis grassland. Half time to decay aluminum of litter soils were 17.33 years in Z japonica grass-land, and 8.66 years in Al. sinensis grassland. 95% decay times in Z japonica, and in M. sinensis grassland were 75.0 years and 35.0 years respectively. Needed times to lose almost all of elements in Z japonica and M. sinensis grassland were 125.0 years, and 62.50 years respectively. The metals were losed more rapidly in M. sinensis than in Z japonica grassland. The cycle of aluminum was investigated to be related with soil acidity. Key words: Cycle of aluminum, Zoysia japonica. • Fluorescence time decay of human aorta has been measured at 380, 440, 480 nm using 320 nm excitation and time-correlated single photon counting technique. Fluorescence decay was found to be nonexponential at all emission frequencies. The normal and diseased sample showed significantly different fluorescence behaviors at 380 nm while this time decay difference was decreased in the fluorescence at 440 and 480 nms. The decay data were multiexponential and were analyzed with two exponential decay constants. The fluorescence decays were compared with and analyzed in terms of collagen and elastin.

  • The pressure saturation effect on the phosphorescence decay rates of the $^3B_1$ State of $SO_2$ has been reinvestigated by the laser induced phosphorescence method in pure $SO_2$. We have attempted to fit the pressure dependence of the phosphorescence decay rates using the radiationless transition model by introducing different coupling constants for each vibrational level ofthe 3B1 state. The experimental decay rates can be fitted well, when the coupling constants for the (0,0,0), (0,1,0) and (0,2,0) levels of the $^3B_1$ state are $7.2\;{\times}\;10^{-4}$, $2.2\;{\times}\;10^{-3}$ and $5.9\;{\times}\;10^{-3}\;cm^{-1}$, respectively.

  • The nature and analysis methods of complicated decay profiles found in forced Rayleigh scattering (FRS) have been investigated for the probe diffusion of methyl yellow in 2-propanol. The complementary shifted and ground state grating effect, which is known to be the origin of non-single exponential decays, was analyzed by non-linear regression fitting to a double exponential model function. We confirmed that the parameters were highly correlated so that it was difficult to extract a unique set of parameters in the presence of experimental noise. Nevertheless, a reasonable range of decay time constants could be estimated from the grating spacing dependence.

  • Decay kinetics of Ga(5s), Ga(5p) and Ga(4d) atoms in Ar were studied by laser induced fluorescence technique. Theground state gallium atoms in the gas phase were generated by pulsed dc discharge of trimethyl gallium and argon mixtures. Both pulsed discharge and YAG-DYE laser system were controlled by a dual channel pulse generator and the delay time between the end of discharge and laser pulses was set 3.0-6.0 ms. The Ga(5s) and Ga(4d) atoms were generated by single photon excitation from the ground state Ga atoms and radiative lifetimes as well as the total quenching rate constants in Ar were obtained from the pressure dependence of the fluorescence decay rates. The Ga(5p) atoms were populated by a two-photon excitation method and the cascade fluorescence from Ga(5s) atoms were analyzed to extract quenching rate constant of Ga(5p) atoms by Ar in addition to radiative lifetimes of Ga(5p) state. The magnitudes of the quenching rate constants by Ar for the low-lying excited states of Ga atoms are 1.6-3$ {\times}10^{-11}cm^3$ molecul$e^{-1}s^{-1}$, which are much larger than those for alkali, alkaline earth and Group 12 metals. Based on the measured rate constants, kinetic simulations were done to assign state-to-state rate constants.

  • Irreversible photobleaching of bacteriorhodopsin (bR), namely denaturation induced by illumination of visible light, was investigated by absorption kinetic measurements. The denaturation kinetics revealed that light illumination significantly enhanced the structural decay of bR. The kinetic analyses showed that the molecular structure of bR denatures according to a single-exponential decay, whereas irreversible photobleaching has two decay components. The decay constant of the slow component of photobleaching is almost same as that in the dark. An Arrhenius plot of the denaturation kinetic constants for the fast and slow components showed similar activation energies of approximately 19 kcal/mol.

  • Mathematical models of the litter accumulation, decay and turnover in the grassland and forest ecosystems of equilibrium state of the annual litter production were established to analyse the decay rates of organic and inorganic constituents of the litter. Those models were validated by an application to a Phragmites longivalvis grassland in a delta of the River Nakdong. The decay constants of cold-water-soluble fractions, other carbohydrates, hot-water-soluble fractions, cellulose, crude fat, lignin and crude protein in the litter were 0.730, 0.583, 0.555, 0.505, 0.479, 0.331 and 0.310 respectively. The amount of mineral nutrients such as N. P. K. Ca and Mg returned annually to the soil were estimated to 7.09, 1.34, 2.36, 4.37 and 0.79g/m2 respectively.

  • We measured, using femtosecond pump-probe experiment, the time evolution of transient absorption in aqueous CdS colloids. The signal rises within the time resolution (= 0.5 ps) of the experiment and decays with two exponential time constants, 4.8 ps and 132 ps. The ultrafast rise of the transient absorption is considered to be for shallowly trapped conduction band electrons after photoexcitation. The amplitude ratio of the two decaying components varies with the pump intensity and the decay times increase in the presence of hole scavengers. Even though a biexponential function fits the decay well, we object hat two independent first order processes (geminate and nongeminate recombinations) are responsible for the decay. A function with an integrated rate equation for second order nongeminate recombination plus a long background fits the decay well. The long background is considered to be for deeply trapped charges at the CdS particle.
