This research has been conducted to investigate the characteristics of hydraulic behavior within the PAC contactor, the rectangular shape sedimentation basin without inclined tube and the other one with inclined tube those are parts of demonstration plants(capacity : $2,000m^3/d$) in Korea Institute of Water and Environment. As results of tracer tests, the flow within PAC contactor was evaluated to divided into plug flow and dead space distinctly, and characteristics of dead space was close to that of CSTR(Complete/continuous Stirred Tank Reactor). Also, considering Reynolds number, Froude number, Morill, Modal, NCSTR Inex and plug flow/mixed flow fraction, in the case of the rectangular shape sedimentation basin without inclined tube, the characteristics of flow pattern was close to CSTR. On the other hand, in the case of the basin with inclined tube, the region of CSTR decreased precisely compared with the case of no-tube. Until now we have recognized that the inclined hydraulic structure just reduces the surface loading rate within a sedimentation basin. Actually besides, the inclined structure have an important effect on the hydraulic behavior within the basin.
In automotive applicatons or water vehicles, the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) stack is keep moving while their operation. Especially the inclination environment can take a effect to fuel cell stack perfromance, because this condition can cause a bad effect to water exhaust of fuel cell stack. In this study, a large scale stack(over 100kW power) is inclined upto 30 degree in lengthwise and crosswise using stack lift equipment. And the stack is operated in 10~100% load. No significant change has appeared in crosswise inclined condition and lenthwise low angle. But in lenthwise large angle tilting condition, the fuel cell performance has significantly decreased. And this performance decrease is aggravated in low load. An active water exhaust device is applied to the stack to prevent the performance decrease. And in lenthwise large angle tilting condition, this device cause a good effect to fuel cell stack performance.
This study carried out hydraulic model test for water circulation system in Cheongna district as part of Incheon Free Economic Zone. Canal way project of Cheongna was planned to establish for environment-friendly water circulation system, improve quality of life and diversification of traffic through using boat as a water-friendly international business city. The navigation canal, There are two intake facility in central park and it can purify water 15,000$m^3$ per day. After purify, water move to 8 facility of water culture area which supplies water in canal way. This process called water circulation system in cheongna. Also, there are several flow induction machine in canal way except south-north way. Therefore, this study will verify about validity of water circulation system's safety through hydraulic model test.
Torrefaction and hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) are productive methods to reclaim energy from lignocellulosic biomass. The hydrophobic, homogenized, energy dense and carbon rich solid fuel can be obtain from torrefaction and hydrothermal carbonization. Dead leaves were carbonized in a stainless steel reactor of volume 200 ml with torrefaction ($250-270^{\circ}C$) for 120 minutes and hydrothermal carbonization ($200-250^{\circ}C$) for 30 minutes, with mass yield solid fuel ranging from 57-70% and energy content from 16.81MJ/kg to 22.01 MJ/kg compare to the biomass. The char produced from torrefaction process possess high energy content than hydrothermal carbonization. The highest energy yield of 89.96% was obtained by torrefaction at $250^{\circ}C$. The energy densification ratio fluctuated in between 1.15 to 1.30. On the basis of pore size distribution of the chars, the definition of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) was used as a classification standard. The pore diameter was ranging within 11.09-19 nm which play important role in water holding capacity in soil. Larger pores can hold water and provide passage for small pores. Therefore, it can be concluded that high pore size char can be obtained my HTC process and high energy content char of 22.01 MJ/Kg with 34.04% increase in energy can be obtain by torrefaction process.
The optimum condition is defined as one that best suits the purpose of flocculation; the number of small particles should decrease, while that of large particles should increase. The object of this research was to develop a new impeller and substitute for conventional flocculators. The flow characteristics of turbines and hydrofoil type flocculators in turbulent fluids were observed using a standard $k-{\epsilon}$ Model and a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation program-FLUENT. The experiments were performed to compare PBT(Pitched Blade Turbine) flocculator with twisted hydrofoil type flocculators for velocity distribution, and floe formation at conventional water treatment plants in Korea. As a result of the CED solution, twisted hydrofoil types are similar to hydrofoil flocculators for flow characteristics without regard to the twisted angle, On the other hand, it was established that turbine flocculators are greater than hydrofoil flocculators with flow unevenness and dead zone formation. Twisted hydrofoil type-II (Angle $15{\sim}20^{\circ}$) is the most proper impeller for water flocculation from this point of view with a decreasing the dead zone, maintaining of the equivalent energy distribution and a drawing up of the sedimentation substance from the bottom of the flocculation basin.
