Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of GnRH antagonist cetrorelix in women undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and to determine changes in serum hormone concentrations during cetrorelix administration. Methods: We performed a clinical trial on 30 patients undergoing COH with highly purified follicular stimulating hormone (HP-FSH) and gonadotropin releasing hormone antagonist (GnRHant), cetrorelix. FSH was administrated from day 2 or 3 of cycle with fixed dose and adjusted according to individual response. 0.25 mg of cetrorelix was injected daily subcutaneously from stimulation day 5 until the day of hCG administration. Daily ultrasound monitoring was performed for growing follicles and serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol ($E_2$) and progesterone were measured daily during cetrorelix administration. Up to 4 embryos were transferred. Results: Mean age of enrolled patients was $32.0{\pm}3.4$ years (mean $\pm$ S.D.). All of 30 patients underwent oocyte pick-up, and embryo transfer was done in 28 patients. The total and mean numbers of received oocytes were 196 and $6.5{\pm}4.7$, the number of fertilized eggs was 111, and the fertilization rate was 56.6%. Total duration of FSH administration was $9.2{\pm}2.2$ days and mean of $24.3{\pm}7.7$ ampules of HP-FSH was administered. Total duration of cetrorelix administration was $5.7{\pm}1.9$ days. Serum LH and progesterone levels were maintained in the range of $1.4{\sim}2.9\;mIU/mL$ and $0.3{\sim}0.6\;ng/mL$, which respectively reflected effective prevention of premature LH surge. Clinical pregnancies were achieved in 9 patients, and overall clinical pregnancy rate was 30.0% per oocyte retrieval, and 32.1% per embryo transfer. Conclusion: GnRH antagonist is safe and convenient for COH for IVF-ET and effective with optimal pregnancy rate.
This work was carried out to determined the effect of 2,4-dinitrophenol(DNP) on in vivo nitrate reductase activity in the root of 6 day old rye (Secale cereale L.) seedlings. The nitrate reductase activity in the roots of 6 day old rye seedlings pretreated with 0.5 mM DNP was higher than that of the control group in all the experimental conditions. The optimal concentration of KNO3 for maximum nitrate reductase activity was 10 mM in both control and treated group. The nitrate reductase activity in the treatment of 10 mM KNO3 gradually increased for 4 h in both groups, and then maintained constantly. The nitrate reductase activity occurred per hour was highest at 1 h in both groups, while it was declined by large degrees as time goes on. The daily pattern of nitrate reductase activity was gradually decreased in both groups with the passage of day. The optimal pH for this experiment and a previous paper (Kwon et al., 1991), it was determined that the nitrate reductase activity in both roots and shoots of rye seedlings was increased by the treatment of 0.5 mM DNP, and particulary in both groups, the nitrate reductase activity in the roots of rye seedlings was higher than that in shoots of them.
The present study was designed to investigate the efficacy of selective $ET_A$ receptor antagonist, ambrisentan on hyperhomocysteinemia-induced experimental vascular dementia. L-methionine was administered for 8 weeks to induce hyperhomocysteinemia and associated vascular dementia in male rats. Ambrisentan was administered to L-methionine-treated effect rats for 4 weeks (starting from $5^{th}$ to $8^{th}$ week of L-methionine treatment). On $52^{nd}$ day onward, the animals were exposed to the Morris water maze (MWM) for testing their learning and memory abilities. Vascular endothelial function, serum nitrite/nitrate levels, brain thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS), brain reduced glutathione (GSH) levels, and brain acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity were also measured. L-methionine-treated animals showed significant learning and memory impairment, endothelial dysfunction, decrease in/serum nitrite/nitrate and brain GSH levels along with an increase in brain TBARS levels and AChE activity. Ambrisentan significantly improved hyperhomocysteinemia-induced impairment of learning, memory, endothelial dysfunction, and changes in various biochemical parameters. These effects were comparable to that of donepezil serving as positive control. It is concluded that ambrisentan, a selective $ET_A$ receptor antagonist may be considered as a potential pharmacological agent for the management of hyperhomocysteinemia-induced vascular dementia.

Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Penman-Monteith (PM) equation is one of the most widely used equations for predicting evapotranspiration (ET) of crops. The ET rate and the base crop coefficients ($K_{cb}$) of the two different grape vines (i.e., Campbell Early and Kyoho) cultivated in Suwon were calculated by using the FAO PM equation. The ET rate of Campbell Early was $2.41\;mm\;day^{-1}$ and that of Kyoho was $2.22\;mm\;day^{-1}$ in August when the leaf area index was 2.2. During this period, the $K_{cb}$ of Campbell Early based on the FAO PM equation was on average 0.49 with the maximum value of 0.72. On the other hand, the $K_{cb}$ of Kyoho was averaged to be 0.45 with the maximum value of 0.64. The seasonal leaf area index for two grape cultivars was measured as 0.15 in April, 0.5 in May, 1.4 in June, 2.2 in July-September, and 1.5 in October. The $K_{cb}$ of Campbell Early showed a seasonal variation, changing from 0.03 in April to 0.11 in May, 0.31 in June, 0.49 in July-September, and 0.33 in October. The magnitudes and the seasonality of $K_{cb}$ of Kyoho were similar to those of Campbell Early.

The physicochemical and microbiological studies were conducted to examine the effect of pineneedle(Pinu densinora Seib. et Zucc) sap on the Kimchi fermentation. Kimchi with the addition of various levels(0, 0.5, 1.0, or 1.5%) of pine needle sap was fermented either at $4^{\circ}C$ for 15 days after placing at room temperature for 24 hours(Group A) or at $15^{\circ}C$ for 15 days(Group B). pH reached the optimal value of Kimchi fermentation(pH 4.2) on day 3 and day 4~7 in 0% treatment and pine needle sap treatments, respectively, which indicated that shelf-life of Kimchi was extended by 1~4 days by the addition of pine needle sap. Total acidity was decreased by the addition of pine needle sap. More rapid decrease in pH and increase in total acidity were observed in Group B than in Group A. Reducing sugar content was reduced to approximately 80% by day 4~5 in all treatments. Total vitamin C content was reached peak on day 1 of fermentation and then decreased in all treatments. Reducing sugar and total vitamin C contents were slightly increased by the addition of pine needle sap due to the components present in pine needle sap. Total viable cell number rapidly increased to reach Peak on day 3 and then slowly decreased during the fermentation. However, total viable cell number as well as reducing sugar and total vitamin C contents did not differ between Group A and Group B. In Group A, Lactobacillus cell number in 0% treatment continued to increase to reach peak on day 9, while the numbers in pine needle sap treatments reached Peak on day 5~9 and then gradually decreased throughout the fermentation. Unlike in Group A, Lactobaillus cell numbers in pine needle sap treatments in Group B continued to increase to reach Peak on day 7. As pine needle sap levels increased, total viable cell number and Lactobacillus cell number decreased regardless of fermentation temperatures. The results of this study indicate that pine needle sap causes to delay the Kimchi fermentation by slowing down pH drop and inhibiting the Lactobacillus cell growth.
Objective: Since IVF program was first established, various types of media and culture systems have been developed either in-house or commercially. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of in-house Maria Research Center (MRC) media to that of commercially available Sydney IVF media in human day 3 embryo transfer cycles. Methods: Three hundred sixty nine couples were included in this prospective, randomized, and comparative study. All couples undergoing IVF treatment at the Maria Fertility Hospital were randomly assigned to either Sydney IVF (n=178) or MRC (n=191) media. Results: No difference was observed between the MRC media and Sydney IVF media groups with respect to fertilization rate (74.4% vs. 75.5%). The clinical pregnancy and implantation rates of MRC media (47.1% and 20.0%, respectively) were also similar to those of Sydney IVF media (44.4% and 19.4%, respectively). However, the proportion of embryos with good quality on day 3 was significantly higher in the MRC media group than the Sydney IVF media group (50.2% vs. 43.2%) ($p$ <0.05). Conclusion: MRC media were as effective as Sydney IVF media for sustaining embryo development and pregnancy rates. The present study implies that MRC media can be a suitable alternative to commercially available media for human IVF-ET program.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between physical activity and sleep patterns of the elderly. Methods: The subjects of this study were 154 elderly who visited a community senior center in Korea. Data was collected by an interview and a self reported questionnaire, during the period from June to October, 2006. Physical activity was measured by IPAQ Korean version(2006), and sleep pattern by Korean Sleep Scale A developed by Oh et al.(1998). Results: The prevalence of chronic illness in the subjects was 73.4 %. The mean time of vigorous activity was $6.62{\pm}31.27$ minutes/day during the past week. Moderate activity time was $28.85{\pm}50.31$ minutes/day and walking time was $28.85{\pm}50.3$ minutes/day. The total sleep time was $397.63{\pm}111.53$ minutes/day. Physical activity of the elderly significantly correlated with sex, chronic illness, job, and sleep patterns of the elderly. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of sleep pattern was the satisfaction of sleep. A combination of the number of chronic illnesses, moderate physical activities(MET), and total time of sleep accounted for 44.4% of the sleep pattern. Conclusions: Moderate physical activity is more effective than vigorous physical activity for improving the sleep quality of the elderly.

Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii has been used a culinary material and traditional medicine for a long time in worldwide and recently the researches to find biological effects have been increased such as dopamine activation, preventive effect against phytopathogens, inhibitive effect against erythrocyte coagulation, anti-oxidative effect, anti-tumorigenic effect, etc. However it is hard to cultivate Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii it is impossible to be mass-produced and in order to solve the problem in this study we found the appropriate cultivation period and the harvest point for it. For life cycle (from primordium formation to harvest) the morphology, weight, and quantity of polysaccharide of Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii were measured using with 5 bodies per a day and it could be divided for 4 stages; primordium formation, growth, needle maturation, and aging. And then from the results the Zeide nonlinear growth curve could be gotten. At 13th day after cultivation there is the relation between the change of media weight and body weight and at 14th day after cultivation the rate of polysaccharide in the body was 11 %. However in the case of O2 insufficient supply the malformation of them was observed.
The purpose of this study was to obtain information on rates and salinity levels of irrigation for growth of Kentucky bluegrass by minimizing the hazard of salt accumulation in the sand based growing medium. Root zone profile consists of 20 cm sand based top soil, 20 cm of coarse sand as layer to interrupt capillary rise and 10 cm of reclaimed paddy soil as a base of the root zone profile. Topsoil was a mixture of dredged sand and peat with a ratio of 95%: 5% by volume. The columns were soaked into 5 cm depth saline water reservoir with salinity level of 3-5 $dSm^{-1}$. Salinity levels of irrigation water were 0, 2 and 3 $dSm^{-1}$. Irrigation rates were 3.8, 5.7 and 7.6 mm $day^{-1}$ which were equivalent to 70%, 100% and 130% of average ET (evapotranspiration) rate of Kentucky bluegrass, and irrigation interval was 3 days. Salt accumulation was due to irrigated water and moved up water from shallow water base. At the end of second year, the accumulation of salt in the rootzone showed ECc of3.86, 4.7 and 5.1 $dSm^{-1}$, and SAR of 19.2, 23.9 and 27.5 when the salinities were 0, 2 and 3 dS $m^{-1}$, respectively. Irrigation rates of 100% and 130% of ET rate with saline water did not decrease ECe and SAR in growing media. The growth of KEG was influenced by irrigation rate in the $1^{st}$ year, however, salinity level was more critical in the $2^{nd}$ year. Compared to non-saline water, saline water of 2 and 3 dS $m^{-1}$ resulted in decreased visual quality by 3.2% and 16.5%, by 6.4% and 39.3% in clipping weight, and by 5.5% and 5.0% in root mass, respectively.
1. The analysis of the shoot height growth of Phyllostachys edulis A. et C. Rivi$\acute{e}$re which stand is growing at the middle part of South Korea is presented in the present paper. The shoot height was carefully measured twice a day, 10 am and 4 pm. With this, six hours from 10 am to 4 pm is regarded as day-time-length and 18 hours of the rest as night-length. 2. The measurement were made in 1954. The very young shoots were classed into three diameter groups basing at the ground surface level to see the the afterwards influences of shoot size on height growth. 3. The hourly mean height growth in day time was higher than that in night time. The standard deviations and coefficients of variations of the daily growth of the shoot are presented in Figures 2 and 3 respectively. 4. The hourly mean height growth of the shoot by diameter groups and by day and night period are presented in Fig. 4 and 5 respectively. 5. The growth percentages of the shoot by diameter groups and by day and night is graphed in Fig. 6.
