Numerical analysis of three-dimensional viscous flow-fields in the turbine rotor passages was carried out to investigate flow physics including the interaction between secondary vortices, tip leakage vortex, and the rotor wake. The blade tip geometry was accurately modeled adopting the embedded H grid system. An explicit four-stage Runge-Kutta scheme was used for the time integration of both the mean flow and turbulence equations. The computational results for the entire turbine rotor flows, particularly the tip clearance flow and the secondary flows, were interpreted and compared with the experimental data from the Penn State turbine stage. The predictions for major features of the flow field have been found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.
This study presents the measurement techniques on the periodic fluctuating flow such as the discharge flow of a centrifugal impeller in an unstable operating region. During rotating stall, the flow at the exit of a centrifugal compressor impeller fluctuates periodically with a lower frequency than that of the blade passing. To observe the blade-to-blade flow characteristics during the rotating stall, the phases of all the sampled data sets should be adjusted to those of the reference signals with two processes, in these processes, DPLEAT (Double Phase-Locked Ensemble Averaging Technique) can be used. From these measurements and data processing techniques, the characteristics illustrated a blade-to-blade flow with high frequency, but also a periodic rotating stall flow with a low frequency at the centrifugal impeller exit which was clearly observed.

The effect of flow conditions on flow measurement is difficult to identify from the inherent characteristics of the flowmeters and flow standard system. A new experimental approach has been attempted to detect the turbine meter error due to inlet flow conditions. In this try not only the design of the turbine meter package but also the data analysis method was altered. It was found that k factor slope of the turbine meter responds to the change of flow conditions in the test line with higher sensitivity than the degree of the data scattering. The flow standard system of $0.1m^3/s$ was chosen for the investigation. The systematic and random error of the system were less than ${\pm}0.08%$ and ${\pm}0.13%$ respectively.

Objective : To investigate nationwide statistics on flow-diverting stent usage for cerebral aneurysm treatment and related mortality data. Methods : We requested data extraction from the National Health Insurance Service claims database using electronic data interchange codes (J3207064, J3207073). Patient and hospital information as well as death statistics were collected from the database. Results : A total of 169 procedures were performed using flow-diverting stents for cerebral aneurysm treatment from November 2014 to December 2016 in Korea. The majority of primary diagnosis was unruptured intracranial aneurysm. During the study period, nine subjects died, including one patient initially diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage. The crude mortality rate was 5.3%. Five patients died within one month after the procedure; therefore, the estimated periprocedural mortality rate was $3.0{\pm}1.3%$. The mortality rate as of the last day of 2016 was $6.3{\pm}2.1%$. Conclusion : In a 171 person-year follow-up in a Korean series, nine deaths occurred after flow-diverting stent treatment. The crude mortality rate in Korea (5.3%) was higher than that reported in a previous meta-analysis (3.8%).

To investigate parametric effect on CHF and to get CHF data, experimental study has been performed with vertical round tubes under the condition of low pressure and low flow (LPLF). Test sections are made of Inconel-625 tube and have the geometry of 8 and 10 mm in diameter, and 0.5 and 1.0 m in heated length. All experiments have been conducted at the pressure of under 9 bar, the mass flux of under 250 kg/$m^2$ and the inlet subcooling of 350 and 450 kJ/kg, for stable upward flow with water as a coolant. Flow regime analysis has been performed for obtained CHF data with Mishima's flow regime map, which reveals that most of the CHF occur in the annular-mist flow regime. General parametric trends of the collected CHF data are consistent with those of previous studies. However, for the pressure effect on CHF, two different are observed; For relatively high mass flux, CHF increases with pressure and far lower mass flux, CHF decrease with pressure. Using modern data regression tool, ACE algorithm, two new CHF correlations for LPLF condition are developed based on local condition and inlet condition, respectively. The developed CHF correlations show better prediction accuracy compared with existing CHF prediction methods.
An analytical model that includes the steam condensation effect has been derived and a parametric study has been performed. In addition, a series of experiments were performed and a total of 34 experimental data for the onset of CCFL in nearly horizontal countercurrent two-phase How have been obtained for various flow rates of water. Comparisons of the present CCFL data with slug formation models show that the agreement between the present as well as the existing model and the data is about the same. However, the deviation between the Taitel and Dukler's model predictions and the data is the largest when if j$_{f}$<0.04 m/s. A parametric study of the effect of the steam condensation using the present model shows that, when all local conditions are similar, the model predicted local gas velocities that cause the onset of flooding are slightly lower when condensation occurred. Based on the visual observation and the evaluation of the present work, it has been concluded that the criterion derived for the onset of slug flow can be directly used to predict the onset of inner flooding in nearly horizontal two-phase flow within the experimental ranges of the present work.
In the present study, the characteristics of blood flow inside a carotid artery numerically investigated with shear rate specific blood viscosity. To simulate the blood flow with a patient-specific arterial geometry, the geometry of a carotid artery was constructed from 2D rain MRA data. The measured data of blood flow velocity at the common carotid artery were used as boundary conditions of the simulation. For the blood rheology data to be used in the simulation, the patient specific blood viscosity over the whole ranges of shear rate was obtained using $BioVisco^{TM}$. From the numerical results of the blood flow in the carotid artery, the increase of blood viscosity and the decrease of wall shear stress could be found in the carotid bifurcated region, more specifically at the post-plaque dilated region. These characteristics of blood viscosity and wall shear stress can be used more precisely and efficiently to predict the region vulnerable to plaque growht or thrombosis on top of the plaque.
The variation of stream flow is the one of the most important factors which influence on that of water quality in the unit watershed. The target water quality goal is established and permissible load is allotted in the base of the standard flow condition along with its water quality for the management of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). A standard flow selected could cause problems in the load allotment if it was not properly arranged. This study reviewed the acquisition of water quality data, the self-variation and the retainability in water quality on the specific flow conditions. This study also proposed the median and the adjusted average flow condition out of general flow conditions as alternative standard flow conditions. It is considered that the alternatives can make the water quality data easily acquired and the water quality representativeness more enhanced on the standard flow conditions.
In this paper, we construct a prototype model for city data prediction by using time series data of floating population, and use machine learning to analyze urban data of complex structure. A correlation prediction model was constructed using three of the 10 data (total flow population, male flow population, and Monday flow population), and the result was compared with the actual data. The results of the accuracy were evaluated. The results of this study show that the predicted model of the floating population predicts the correlation between the predicted floating population and the current state of commerce. It is expected that it will help efficient and objective design in the planning stages of architecture, landscape, and urban areas such as tree environment design and layout of trails. Also, it is expected that the dynamic population prediction using multivariate time series data and collected location data will be able to perform integrated simulation with time series data of various fields.

This study explored an approach to estimate a flow-density diagram(FD) on a link in highway traffic environment by utilizing probe vehicles' time headway records. To study empirical flow-density diagram(EFD), the probe vehicles with vision sensors were recruited for collecting driving records for nine months and the vision sensor data pre-processing and GIS-based map matching were implemented. Then, we examined the new EFDs to evaluate validity with reference diagrams which is derived from loop detection traffic data. The probability distributions of time headway and distance headway as well as standard deviation of flow and density were utilized in examination. As a result, it turned out that the main factors for estimation errors are the limited number of probe vehicles and bias of flow status. We finally suggest a method to improve the accuracy of EFD model.
