This study aims to suggest a Biophilic classroom design of high school to obtain attention restoration for students. The learning space for youth in the modern society is composed of dry artificial structures. This space is considered to be a space that can not relieve stress caused by learning. "The Attention Restoration Theory" is divided into "Directed Attention" of humans, which is the cause of fatigue and stress, and "Involuntary Attention" as a solution to it. "Involuntary Attention" takes place in a rest state and helps the brain recover when exposed to nature. And the core of "Biophilic-Design Theory" is that humans can recover physical and mental conditions when exposed to nature. The purpose of this study is to apply "The Biophilic-Design Theory" that emphasizes the importance of exposure to nature to the educational space and plan the space where the 'Attention Restoration' can be achieved. The research method is as follows. First, we review previous studies related to "The Biophilic-Design Theory" and "The Attention Restoration Theory". Second, we analyze the application examples of "The Biophilic-Design Theory" and "The Attention Restoration Theory" in domestic and foreign educational spaces. Third, the concept of educational space is set up based on the elements derived from previous studies. Finally, we propose the planning direction of classroom design based on Biophilic-Design. The following conclusions were drawn. First, The creation of the education space to restore the learner's attention requires a visual space plan that utilizes natural elements such as natural light, artificial light, plants, and natural materials that can directly experience nature. Second, the direction in which students in the classroom can be "The Attention Restoration Theory" should consider the use of indirect natural elements that bring the surrounding natural landscape into the interior. This study will be used as the baseline data for the spatial design and planning of education facilities based on Biophilic-Design.

This study restores rainfall measurements taken with the Chugugi (rain gauge) at Wonju, Hamheung, and Haeju from the Deungnok (government records from the Joseon Dynasty). We restored rainfall data corresponding to a total of 9, 13, and 18 years for Wonju, Hamheung, and Haeju, respectively. Based on the restored data, we reconstructed monthly rainfall data. Restoration was most successful for the rainy season months of June, July and August. The restored rainfall data were compared with the summer rainfall data for Seoul as recorded by the Seungjeongwon (Royal Secretariat). In June, the variation in the restored rainfall data was similar to that of the Seungjeongwon data for Seoul. In July and August, however, the variations in the reconstructed data were markedly different from those in the Seoul data (Seungjeongwon). In the case of the worst drought in the summer of 1888, a substantial shortage of rainfall was found in both the Seungjeongwon data for Seoul and the restored data for the three regional locations.

Baekdudaegan Mountain System (BDMS) is a unique and traditional concept in Korea that puts importance on the connectivity of energy when Korean people recognize their mountain system. Two main national organizations that are in charge of managing natural environment in Korea, Korea Forest Service (KFS) and Ministry of Environment (MoE), have been independently investigating the natural resources in protected areas of BDMS. Each organization released its first survey report for the whole protected areas in 2011. In order to provide better understanding of BDMS's natural environment, the results contained in the first reports of KFS and MoE were compared. It was found that KFS contains a wider variety of survey items, though many of the items are overlapped between the reports of KFS and MoE. It was noticeable that the survey results of KFS and MoE were not always matched even for the same or similar items in the identical target areas. The main causes of the different survey results are suggested to be the differences of the details of the survey conditions between KFS and MoE, such as the season of the surveys and the subjectivity of surveyors, and the type of literatures included in the indoor survey. As a result, it is difficult to directly compare the survey results of KFS and MoE, which leads to low usability of the data and low efficiency of the survey processes. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that the sections and methodologies of survey should be clearly set with consideration for the research purposes. The survey data and geographical information should be digitalized and opened to the public for better accessibility to BDMS information. Also, the survey reports should include English summary, thereby the results can be utilized globally for scientific, cultural and political purposes, such as designation of a heritage site.
The study was to investigate and compare plants and frequency of appearing species of vegetation transect in a straight and a restoration Section of Bulgwang stream in Seoul. Some part of Bulgwang stream was restored as a closed-to-nature stream. This present study consists of two investigations, the first investigation being conducted on May and the second one on August -September 2003. Based on the analysis of the data collected from both investigations, this study classified and listed all of the plants appeared in a straight and a restoration section of the stream. The study used the Belt-transect method in order to examine and analyze discover the appearance frequency of the vegetaton transect per 200 meters. During the period of the first investigation and the second one, plants of 33 families, 73 classes, and 88 species appeared in the straight section, while plants of 36 families, 76 classes, and 90 species appeared in the restoration section. The Naturalized Index of the straight section was 22.7%, and that of the restoration section was 21.1%. As shown on the results indicating that the Urbanization Index of the straight section was 7.8%, and that of the restoration section was 7.4%, the Urbanization Index of the straight section was slightly higher than the restoration section. The results using belt-transect analysis method showed that in case of the straight section, the plants of the highest appearance frequency on the riverside were Persicaria hydropiper and Humulus japonicus. On the contrary, in the case of restoration section, the plants showing a higher appearance frequency on the riverside were identified as Salix gracilistyla, Persicaria hydropiper, Rumex crispus, and Humulus japonicus. In conclusion, there was no difference between the straight and the restoration section in the bank with regard to vegetation transect. However, a remarkable difference was found on the riverside for the Salix gracilistyla which was introduced in the restoration section.

This study identified vulnerable regions in the national parks of the Republic of Korea (ROK). The potential vulnerable regions were defined as areas showing a decline in forest productivity, low resilience, and high sensitivity to climate variations. Those regions were analyzed with a regression model and trend analysis using the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) data obtained from long-term observed Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and gridded meteorological data. Results showed the area with the highest vulnerability was Naejangsan National Park in the southern part of ROK where 32.5% ($26.0km^2$) of the total area was vulnerable. This result will be useful information for future conservation planning of forest ecosystem in ROK under environmental changes, especially climate change.

To investigate the building wind characteristics of skyscraper nearby areas, two points were selected and the wind speed and the wind direction data were measured using 2-D ultrasonic anemometer and propeller type wind monitor during the winter time. The study site is Dohgok-dong, Seoul. After measurement, wind data whose speed is equal to or more than Beaufort level five were selected, classified and analyzed in terms of direction, velocity level and hourly difference. The prevailing wind point is higher than street canyon in terms of intensity and frequency. The main direction is also different. This study aims to figure out the phenomena of building wind impact and also to provide essential basic data for establishing proper guidelines in building wind impact assessment for skyscrapers in Korea.

This study intends to provide quantitative data about the extraction characteristics of major elements of earthenware by executing soaking test of cleaning agents. It aims at providing basic data for the stability assessment when applying the cleaning agents for conserving earthenware. The data will be extracted from the analysis of co-relationship between the physical characteristics and the ion extraction characteristics. XRD analysis displayed that AT-1, AT-2 and AT-3 which did not generate mullite were fired at lower than 1,000 whereas AT-3 and AT-5 that included mullite were higher than 1,000. The degree of absorption was AT-4 > AT-2 > AT-1 > AT-3 > AT-5 in order and the correlation between the degree of absorption and firing temperature of earthenware displayed a positive correlation. Extraction amount of oxalic acid which was used for the removing iron oxide was AT-1 > AT-2 AT-4 > AT-3 > AT-5 in order. and the ion extraction data displayed that there is a positive correlation with absorption level. However AT-1 and AT-2 which were fired at lower temperature showed that there was no correlation between the ion extraction characteristics and absorption level. Ion extraction of citric acid produced little amount compared with the one of oxalic acid, yet it caused less damage to earthenware than oxalic acid when it applied. The result of ion extraction level in the absorption test displayed that Fe had higher level than in Si, Al from the test for both oxalic acid and citric acid. Based on the regression analysis of the data from the previous studies, the physical characteristics of the earthenware and ion extraction level, further studies will be conducted on the predicting technique on the extraction characteristics of major elements of earthenware samples for the conservation in future.
River-water quality has been greatly improved during past several decades with the extraordinary expansion for the wastewater treatment capacities by the government. Research aims to select the priority restoration streams based on the chronicle data for tributaries in Geumgang watershed as the main stream area in the Chungchungnamdo province. The quality of BOD, phosphorus and percent of sewered population on 15 branch streams were compared by the grouping methods. The results of group D streams by category I that exceed 3.0 mg/L for BOD and 0.1 mg/L for phosphorus were Seuksung, Ganggyung and Bangchuk stream. The results of group D streams by category II that exceed 3.0 mg/L for BOD and less than 63.5 % of average percent of sewered population were Ganggyung, Gilsan, Bangchuk and Seuksung stream. The final results of selected streams drawn by the chronicle data which exceeded the standard quality and lower than the average percent of sewered population were Seoksung, Gangeyung and Bangchuk stream. The pollution of rivers in the down streams were more serious than in the upper streams. Their watersheds have to be improved river water quality, especially to extend sewer systems as well as wastewater treatment facilities.

The purpose of this research is classifying stream into different types depending on various factor from the perspective of stream corridor restoration and using it as basic data, which are used to consider efficient management and planning for the healthy stream according to the characteristic by types. In this study, 130 points of location of the Nakdong river basin which consist of various geographic factors have been chosen and hierarchical cluster analysis has been carried out in these points by using biological and physiochemical factors whose health can be considered to be predicted and evaluated. As a result of cluster analysis, there were three divided types. Type A whose biology and water quality are considered the best was the highest in forest area percentage so that it was classified into natural stream. Type B was classified into a rural region stream with a mixture of urban and agricultural region. Type C, with the most damaged water quality and biology health had the most urban region surface area and was named as urban region stream. Moreover, an overall restoration strategy according to characteristic by stream types was set. By the results of correlation analysis on factors, water quality showed a high correlation with biological properties and was affected by surrounding land usage. In evaluation of streams, it proves the need to consider not only other habitat's geographical and biological factors but also the water quality and land usage factors. There needs to be further research on stream ecosystem functionality factors and structural aspects by using a more objective and total evaluation result in selecting additional index and various other specific classification methods by stream types and its restoration strategies.

This study examined the actual conditions of quarries. aiming to offer preliminary data to help with restoration efforts of quarries after extracting rock material. The results are as follows. As for the current state of business, a classification of all sites surveyed showed the ratio of ceased operations: ongoing operations: quarries under restoration to be 58:5:37. Classified by the permit area, the ratio of the number of quarries with areas less than $20,000m^2$ (2ha) : between $20,000m^2$ (2ha) and $50,000m^2$ (5ha) : $50,000m^2$ (5ha) or more was 15:60:25. The classification by use of the rocks showed the ratio of construction aggregate (such as civil construction material) : building material : craft material to be 60:28:12. The ratio of quarrying methods of bench cut : slope quarry : vertical quarry wall is 40:18:42. It is indicated that 85% of all quarries surveyed are difficult to reclaim while 15% seem to be easier to restore. Among all surveyed, 34 sites were considered to be extremely difficult to restore. 17 of the 34 sites (50%) were quarry walls almost vertical that have been neglected after extraction. 16 of them (47%) were underground quarries that have left quarry walls deep under the ground. For the remaining 1 site, there doesn't seem to be any need for reclamation as it became totally flat after the extraction.
