Abstract Concurrency control of real-time secure database system must satisfy not only logical data consistency but also timing constraints and security requirements associated with transactions. These conflicting natures between timing constraints and security requirements are often resolved by maintaining several versions(or secondary copies) on the same data items. In this paper, we propose a new lock-based concurrency control protocol, Dynamic Copy Security Protocol, ensuring both two conflicting requirements. Our protocol aims for reducing the storage overhead of maintaining secondary copies and minimizing the processing overhead of update history. Main idea of our protocol is to keep a secondary copy only when it is needed to resolve the conflicting read/write operations in real time secure database systems. For doing this, a secondary copy is dynamically created and removed during a transaction's read/write operations according to our protocol. We have also examined the performance characteristics of our protocol through simulation under different workloads while comparing the existing real time security protocol. The results show that our protocol consumed less storage and decreased the missing deadline transactions.

  • Efficient filtering is an important factor in RFID system performance. Because of huge volume of tag data in future ubiquitous environment, if RFID readers transmit tag data without filtering to upper-layer applications, which results in a significant system performance degradation. In this paper, we provide an efficient filtering technique which operates on RFID air protocol. RFID air protocol filtering between tags and a reader has some advantages over filtering in readers and middleware, because air protocol filtering reduces the volume of filtering work before readers and middleware start filtering. Exploiting the air protocol filtering advantage, we introduce a geometrical algorithm for generating air protocol filters and verify their performance through simulation with analytical time models. Results of dense RFID reader environment show that air protocol filtering algorithms reduce almost a half of the total filtering time when compared to the results of linear search.

  • In this paper, we propose a medium access control(MAC) protocol for reducing the energy efficiency and for improving the transmission efficiency in underwater acoustic sensor networks. In underwater environment, the transmission delay is longer and bandwidth is smaller than terrestrial environment. Considering these points, we propose a new MAC protocol to enhance throughput and to manage efficiently the energy of nodes. The proposed protocol operates as a channel reservation scheme to decrease data collisions, and uses a mechanism to control the hidden node problem and the exposed node problem occurred in ad hoc networks. The proposed protocol consists of the slotted based transmission frame and reduces data collisions between nodes by putting separately the reservation period in the transmission frame. In addition, it is able to solve the hidden node problem and the exposed node problem by reservation information between nodes. We carry out the simulation to evaluate the proposed protocol in terms of the average energy consumption, the ratio of collision, throughput, and the average transmission delay, and compare the proposed protocol to a traditional MAC protocol in the underwater environment. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol outperforms the traditional protocol under a various of network parameters.

  • Since patients who have suffered from strokes have chronic health problems, the development of a protocol for home care nursing is required. Therefore, this study was done to test the effects of such a protocol on stroke patients. This study was conducted by using a single group pre-post design. The subjects for the study were 13 home care nurses and 30 home care patients who had a stroke. Data collection was done from October 1997 to February 1998. The collected data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test and paired t-test and the results were as follows : 1. The first hypothesis that 'working satisfaction of home nurses would be higher after using the home care protocol' was supported. 2. The second hypothesis that 'patients' satisfaction would be higher after using the home care protocol' was rejected. 3. The third hypothesis that 'the level of ADL of patients would be higher after using the home care protocol' was supported. In conclusion, by using a home care protocol, the satisfaction of nurses' work and the ADL of patients increased, and the patients' satisfaction also increased without statistical significance. The above results confirm that the application of a home care protocol is very effective. Thus, this protocol can be helpful in the quality care of stroke patients. Therefore, developing and organizing protocols, according to health problem, can be useful for beginner nurses who interact with high risk patients.

  • This paper proposes the DDMPF(Distributed Data Management Protocol using FAT) which prevents data loss and keeps the security of self-organized storages by comprising a client, a storage server, and a verification server in clouding environment. The DDMPF builds a self-organized storage server, solves data loss by decentralizing the partitioned data in it in contrast to the centralized problem and the data loss caused by the storage server problems of existing clouding storages, and improves the efficiency of distributed data management with FAT(File Allocation Table). And, the DDMPF improves the reliability of data by a verification server's verifying the data integrity of a storage server, and strengthens the security in double encryption with a client's private key and the system's master key using EC-DH algorithm. Additionally, the DDMPF limits the number of verification servers and detects the flooding attack by setting the TS(Time Stamp) for a verification request message and the replay attack by using the nonce value generated newly, whenever the verification is requested.

  • In large-scale wireless sensor networks, the deployed nodes cannot be replaced or recharged after first deployment. Also, dead nodes maγ lead to the partition of whole networks. While performing data dissemination under a battery power constraint, energy efficiency is a key design factor of routing protocol. As a solution for the efficient data dissemination, in this paper, we propose a protocol namely Hierarchical Data Dissemination (HDD) which provides scalable and efficient data delivery to multiple sources and mobile sinks. HDD uses the facts that sink nodes are central gathering Points and source-centric data forwarding paths are constructed and it is maintained with two-tier communications. The performance of HDD is compared with TTDD about the energy consumption, data delivery time and data success ration. The extensive simulation results show that HDD Routing Protocol outperforms TIDD by more than $1.5{\sim}3times$ on energy consumption.

  • MAC frame aggregation is a method that combines multiple MPDUs (MAC protocol data units) into one PPDU (PHY protocol data units) to enhance network performance at the MAC layer. In ad hoc networks, TCP underperforms due to the congestion window overshooting problem and thus by setting CWL (congestion window limit) TCP performance can be improved. In this paper, we investigate the problem of setting CWL for TCP performance optimization in ad hoc networks with MAC frame aggregation.

  • It has been increased that communicate each other things such as consumer electronics, mobile equipments and wearable computer with serial communication protocol. The conventional method of SPI and I2C high speed serial communication is widely used with 2 pin of clock and data pin. It has been more important than the speed of data transfer to simplify the hardware structure because the IoT components is reduced the hardware complexity. In this paper, we describe the protocol and implementation of serial data transfer with only one pin. The proposed protocol is suitable for the mobile products that send and receive the small amount of data with low speed and low power consumption.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient mutual authentication and key distribution protocol for cdma2000 packet data service which uses Mobile U access method with DIAMETER AAA(Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) infrastructure. The proposed scheme provides an efficient mutual authentication between MN(Mobile Node) and AAAH(home AAA server), and a secure session-key distribution among Mobile If entities. The proposed protocol improves the efficiency of DIAMETER AAA and satisfies the security requirements for authentication and key distribution protocol. Also, the key distributed by the proposed scheme can be used to generate keys for packet data security over 1xEV-DO wireless interface, in order to avoid a session hijacking attack for 1xEV-DO packet data service.
