  • Purpose This study discusses the contradictory behavior of smart-phone users who consider security is important, but they do not follow the security recommendations. We found through literature research that this contradictory behavior is resulted from a low level of efficacy. Design/methodology/approach Research hypotheses were set based on Extended Parallel Process Model, Control Theory, and Self Efficacy Mechanism. The data were collected from undergraduate students. Total of 178 data were used for the analysis. Findings Results of the analysis, first, showed that the relationship between threat and security attitude varies with the level of coping efficacy. Second, showed that the relationship between threat and fear does not vary with the level of coping efficacy. Both the groups with high coping efficacy and low coping efficacy had a statistically significant effect on the relationship between threat and fear.

  • In this paper, we describe an ontology-based context aware model that collects context information from USN sensor and CCTV image and reasons about context in order to development an integrated security control system in the industrial environments. The context model represents autonomous and heterogeneous data as ontologies and recognizes the context through DL(description logic) inference in the smart computing environment. We expect that the integrated security control system can automatically detects the risk in the industrial field and reduces the safety and security incidents by applying this context model to the system.

  • Access control is an essential security component in protecting sensitive data and services from unauthorized access to the resources in mission-critical Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs). CPSs are different from conventional information processing systems in such that they involve interactions between the cyber world and the physical world. Therefore, existing access control models cannot be used directly and even become disabled in an emergency situation. This paper proposes an adaptive Access Control model for Emergences (AC4E) for mission-critical CPSs. The principal aim of AC4E is to control the criticalities in these systems by executing corresponding responsive actions. AC4E not only provides the ability to control access to data and services in normal situations, but also grants the correct set of access privileges, at the correct time, to the correct set of subjects in emergency situations. It can facilitate adaptively responsive actions altering the privileges to specific subjects in a proactive manner without the need for any explicit access requests. A semiformal validation of the AC4E model is presented, with respect to responsiveness, correctness, safety, non-repudiation and concurrency, respectively. Then a case study is given to demonstrate how the AC4E model detects, responds, and controls the emergency events for a typical CPS adaptively in a proactive manner. Eventually, a wide set of simulations and performance comparisons of the proposed AC4E model are presented.

  • Cloud computing is now a widespread and economical option when data owners need to outsource or share their data. Designing secure and efficient data access control mechanism is one of the most challenging issues in cloud storage service. Anonymous broadcast encryption is a promising solution for its advantages in the respects of computation cost and communication overload. We bring forward an efficient anonymous identity-based broadcast encryption construction combined its application to the data access control mechanism in cloud storage service. The lengths for public parameters, user private key and ciphertext in the proposed scheme are all constant. Compared with the existing schemes, in terms of encrypting and decrypting computation cost, the construction of our scheme is more efficient. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is proved to achieve adaptive security against chosen-ciphertext attack adversaries in the standard model. Therefore, the proposed scheme is feasible for the system of data access control in cloud storage service.

  • The results from the analysis of recent security breach cases of industrial control systems revealed that most of them were caused by the employees of a partner company who had been managing the control system. For this reason, the majority of the current company security management systems have been developed focusing on their performances. Despite such effort, many hacking attempts against a major company, public institution or financial institution are still attempted by the partner company or outsourced employees. Thus, the institutions or organizations that manage Industrial Control Systems (ICSs) associated with major national infrastructures involving traffic, water resources, energy, etc. are putting emphasis on their security management as the role of those partners is increasingly becoming important as outsourcing security task has become a common practice. However, in reality, it is also a fact that this is the point where security is most vulnerable and various security management plans have been continuously studied and proposed. A system that enhances the security level of a partner company with a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) has been developed in this study through research on the past performances of partner companies stationed at various types of industrial control infrastructures and its performance outcomes were statistically compiled to propose an appropriate model for the current ICSs by comparing vulnerabilities, measures taken and their results before and after adopting the VDI.

  • Cloud computing is widely used in information spreading and processing, which has provided a easy and quick way for users to access data and retrieve service. Generally, in order to prevent the leakage of the information, the data in cloud is transferred in the encrypted form. As one of the traditional security technologies, access control is an important part for cloud security. However, the current access control schemes are not suitable for cloud, thus, it is a vital problem to design an access control scheme which should take account of complex factors to satisfy the various requirements for cipher text protection. We present a novel access control scheme based on proxy re-encryption(PRE) technology (PreBAC) for cipher text. It will suitable for the protection of data confidently and information privacy. At first, We will give the motivations and related works, and then specify system model for our scheme. Secondly, the algorithms are given and security of our scheme is proved. Finally, the comparisons between other schemes are made to show the advantages of PreBAC.

  • Due to various requirements for the user access control to large databases in the hospitals and the banks, database security has been emphasized. There are many security models for database systems using wide variety of policy-based access control methods. However, they are not functionally enough to meet the requirements for the complicated and various types of access control. In this paper, we propose a database security system that can individually control user access to data groups of various sites and is suitable for the situation where the user's access privilege to arbitrary data is changed frequently. Data group(s) in different sixes d is defined by the table name(s), attribute(s) and/or record key(s), and the access privilege is defined by security levels, roles and polices. The proposed system operates in two phases. The first phase is composed of a modified MAC (Mandatory Access Control) model and RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) model. A user can access any data that has lower or equal security levels, and that is accessible by the roles to which the user is assigned. All types of access mode are controlled in this phase. In the second phase, a modified DAC(Discretionary Access Control) model is applied to re-control the 'read' mode by filtering out the non-accessible data from the result obtained at the first phase. For this purpose, we also defined the user group s that can be characterized by security levels, roles or any partition of users. The policies represented in the form of Block(s, d, r) were also defined and used to control access to any data or data group(s) that is not permitted in 'read ' mode. With this proposed security system, more complicated 'read' access to various data sizes for individual users can be flexibly controlled, while other access mode can be controlled as usual. An implementation example for a database system that manages specimen and clinical information is presented.

  • This paper proposes a relational security model-based RDF Web ontology access control model. The Semantic Web is recognized as a next generation Web and RDF is a Web ontology description language to realize the Semantic Web. Much effort has been on the RDF and most research has been focused on the editor, storage, and inference engine. However, little attention has been given to the security issue, which is one of the most important requirements for information systems. Even though several researches on the RDF ontology security have been proposed, they have overhead to load all relevant data to memory and neglect the situation that most ontology storages are being developed based on relational database. This paper proposes a novel RDF Web ontology security model based on relational database to resolve the issues. The proposed security model provides high practicality and usability, and also we can easily make it stable owing to the stability of the relational database security model.

  • With the growing acceptance of XML technologies, XML will be the most common tool for all data manipulation and data transmission. Meeting security requirements for privacy, confidentiality and integrity is essential in order to move business online and it is important for security to be integrated with XML solutions. Many policies require certain conditions to be satisfied and actions to be performed before or after a decision is made. Binary yes/no decision to an access request is not enough for many applications. These issues were addressed and formalized as provisions and obligations by Betti et Al. In this paper, we propose an authorization model with provisions and obligations in XML. We introduce a formal definition of authorization policy and the issues involving obligation discussed by Betti et Al. We use the formal model as a basis to develop an authorization model in XML. We develop DTDs in XML for main components such as authorization request, authorization policy and authorization decision. We plan to develop an authorization system using the model proposed.
