Analysis of Volatile Compounds in the Gardenia Absoulute Oil (Gardenia Absolute Oil을 구성하고 있는 휘발성 성분의 분석)

  • The characteristic aroma of Gardenia Absolute Oil made from Gardenia Jasminoides Ellis was investigated by GC and GC-MSD and by sensory evaluation The method of GC Analysis was used Double Column System by Carbowax 20M /SPB-1 of Pola/nonPola columns. And the result data of analysis was checked automatic Relent ion Indexs Match System by GC Workstation. A total of 51 compounds were identified in Gardenia Absolute Oil, including t entatively erstimated 9 compounds. The major components were Linalool, Farnesene of various form, Jasmin Lactone, Gamma undecalactone and Cis-3-hexone derivatives.

  • Recent satellite data have revealed a correlation between the Sun’s activities and the Earth’s atmosphere . Many scientists have been conjectured a more direct connections between solar variability and the Earth’s atmosphere from satellite data analysis. During solar storms, more energetic particles reach the Earth’s atmosphere and this phenomenon have effects on the Earth’s atmospheric environment. Consequently, scientists suggest that these variations will affect a global climate change. In this study, we investigate the confirmative research results of atmospheric effects due to solar activities, especially solar storms.

Scientists' Perceptions of Imagination and Characteristics of the Scientific Imagination (과학자들의 상상력에 대한 인식과 과학적 상상력의 특성 탐색)

  • In this study, we investigated scientists' perception of imagination and explored characteristics of scientific imagination. For this, we found out conceptions and characteristics based on literatures which related to imagination. We recruited eight distinguished Korean scientists who have rich research experiences by using Snowball sampling for in-depth interviews (60-90 minutes). All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed. From the analysis of interview data, we identified their perceptions of imagination and the nature of scientific imagination which scientists reflect on during their research work. Semi-structured interview protocol was focused on: 1) how scientists perceive 'imagination' and 2) how scientists perceive the role of imagination in their scientific research. As results, we found out that scientists agreed that imagination plays an important role in scientific research process and they perceived imagination as an intrinsic part of human life. The study also indicated that participants have modern viewpoint about imagination. Moreover, we uncovered three characteristics of imagination in the research process. 1) Curiosity and interest have been a driving force for scientists' imagination. 2) When scientists use the imagination, they can be more creative during their research. 3) Imagination contemplated realistic possibilities based on the scientific knowledge, and produced the new ones. Educational implications for utilization of scientific imagination were also suggested.

  • As the era of big data, which is the foundation of the fourth industry, has come, most related industries are developing related solutions focusing on the technologies of data storage, statistical analysis and visualization. However, for the diffusion of bigdata technology, it is necessary to develop the prediction analysis technologies using artificial intelligence. But these advanced technologies are only possible by some experts now called data scientists. For big data-related industries to develop, a non-expert, called a citizen data scientist, should be able to easily access the big data analysis process at low cost because they have insight into their own data. In this paper, we propose a system for analyzing bigdata and building business models with the support of easy-to-use analysis system without knowledge of high-level data science. We also define the necessary components and environment for the prediction analysis system and present the overall service plan.

Comparative Study of Citizen Science and Expert Based Survey Data Using the Species Distribution Model of Rana uenoi (큰산개구리(Rana uenoi ) 종분포모형을 활용한 시민과학 및 전문가 기반 조사자료의 비교연구)

  • Quantitative habitat model is established with species occurrence and spatial abundance data, which were usually acquired by professional field ecologists and citizen scientists. The importance of citizen science data is increasing, but the quality of these data needs to be evaluated. This study aims to identify and compare both expert-based data and citizen science data based on the performance power of quantitative models derived from both data sets. A Maximum Entropy (MaxENT) model was developed using eight environmental variables, including climate, topography, landcover and distance to forest edge. The AUC values derived from the MaxENT model were 0.842 and 0.809, respectively, indicating a high level of explanatory power. All environmental variables has similar values for both data sets, except for the distance to forest edge and rice paddy, which was relatively higher for expert-based survey data than that of the citizen science data as the distances increased. This result suggests that habitat model derived from expert-based survey data shows more ecological niche including wider ranges from forest edges and isolated habitat patches of rice paddy. This is presumably because citizen scientists focuses on direct observation methods, whereas professional field surveys investigate a wider variety of methods.

  • WCDMA 시스템에서 radio link간에 data를 주고 받고 신뢰성 있는 data를 검증하는 layer가 RLC이다. RLC에서는 전송 측에서 전송한 data가 수신 측에 잘 전송이 되었는지 status report를 확인을 받고 전송이 이루어지지 않았을 경우 재전송을 한다. 재전송 메커니즘에는 poll 및 status 관련 timer가 존재하면 이러한 파라미터값을 적절히 사용하지 않으면 불필요한 data의 재전송으로 인한 radio resource 낭비 및 시스템 throughput에 영향을 준다.

Automatic 3D soil model generation for southern part of the European side of Istanbul based on GIS database

  • Automatic large scale soil model generation is very critical stage for earthquake hazard simulation of urban areas. Manual model development may cause some data losses and may not be effective when there are too many data from different soil observations in a wide area. Geographic information systems (GIS) for storing and analyzing spatial data help scientists to generate better models automatically. Although the original soil observations were limited to soil profile data, the recent developments in mapping technology, interpolation methods, and remote sensing have provided advanced soil model developments. Together with advanced computational technology, it is possible to handle much larger volumes of data. The scientists may solve difficult problems of describing the spatial variation of soil. In this study, an algorithm is proposed for automatic three dimensional soil and velocity model development of southern part of the European side of Istanbul next to Sea of Marmara based on GIS data. In the proposed algorithm, firstly bedrock surface is generated from integration of geological and geophysical measurements. Then, layer surface contacts are integrated with data gathered in vertical borings, and interpolations are interpreted on sections between the borings automatically. Three dimensional underground geology model is prepared using boring data, geologic cross sections and formation base contours drawn in the light of these data. During the preparation of the model, classification studies are made based on formation models. Then, 3D velocity models are developed by using geophysical measurements such as refraction-microtremor, array microtremor and PS logging. The soil and velocity models are integrated and final soil model is obtained. All stages of this algorithm are carried out automatically in the selected urban area. The system directly reads the GIS soil data in the selected part of urban area and 3D soil model is automatically developed for large scale earthquake hazard simulation studies.

  • To provide more qualified data service on the HFC(Hybrid-Fiber Coaxial) access network, the channel characteristics of upstream transmission band should be carefully investigated and analysed. It will be easier to do network management if the monitoring system for noise measurement in the network is available, In this paper, noise analysis method and the frequency selection method in the upstream band for duplex transmission are suggested. And, Data aquisition device for the signal measurement Is implemented. With this network monitoring system, field test and the result from the collected data are described.

MRV: 3D Visualization Method for Multidimensional data (다차원 데이터의 3차원 가시화 기법)

  • 다차원 정보 가시화(multidimensional information visualization)의 목적은 복잡하고 차원이 많은 정보 데이터(information data)를 이해하기 쉽게 그림이나 도표와 같은 특정한 형식을 이용하여 효과적으로 나타내고 비교하는데 있다. 그동안 제시되어 온 다차원 정보 가시화 기법의 대표적인 것으로는 Scatterplots, Perspective Wall, Parallel Coordinates, Glyph를 들 수 있다. 본 논문에서 소개하는 multidimensional rotating visualizer (MRV)이란 기존의 다차원 정보 가시화 기법들을 보완하여 다차원 데이터(multidimensional data)를 3차원 형식으로 보여주는 방법이다. MRV는 그중에서 특히 Glyph와 Parallel Coordinate의 특징을 혼합하여 화면상에 다차원 정보 데이터를 보여주는 새로운 시도라고 하겠다.

  • MIRAGE는 XML을 기반으로 하는 가상문서라는 개념을 도입하여 인터넷 상의 정보 공유를 가능하게 하여 새로운 지식을 생성할 수 있도록 한 디지털도서관 시스템이다. OAI는 컨텐츠에 대한 메타데이터를 이용해서 디지털도서관 안에 있는 정보를 상호이용하기 위한 프로토콜이다. 본 논문에서는 MIRAGE에 OAI 지원 기능을 첨가하여 MIRAGE 시스템에 의해 만들어진 가상문서에 대한 메타데이터를 제공하는 data provider를 구현하여 다른 디지털도서관과 더불어 정보를 상호이용할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 원문에 대한 접근을 원하는 사용자를 위해서 메타데이터의 원문에 직접 접근할 수 있도록 하였다.
