  • Text-mining technique in the past had difficulty in realizing the analysis algorithm due to text complexity and degree of freedom that variables in the text have. Although the algorithm demanded lots of effort to get meaningful result, mechanical text analysis took more time than human text analysis. However, along with the development of hardware and analysis algorithm, big data technology has appeared. Thanks to big data technology, all the previously mentioned problems have been solved while analysis through text-mining is recognized to be valuable as well. However, applying text-mining to Korean text is still at the initial stage due to the linguistic domain characteristics that the Korean language has. If not only the data searching but also the analysis through text-mining is possible, saving the cost of human and material resources required for text analysis will lead efficient resource utilization in numerous public work fields. Thus, in this paper, we compare and evaluate the public document classification by handwork to public document classification where word frequency(TF-IDF) in a text-mining-based text and Cosine similarity between each document have been utilized in big data environment.

  • With the growth in the size of datasets, data mining has recently become an important research topic. Especially, interests about spatio-temporal data mining has been increased which is a method for analyzing massive spatio-temporal data collected from a wide variety of applications like GPS data, trajectory data of surveillance system and earth geographic data. In the former approaches, conventional clustering algorithms are applied as spatio-temporal data mining techniques without any modification. In this paper, we focused to SOM that is the most common clustering algorithm applied to clustering analysis in data mining wet and develop the spatio-temporal data mining module based on it. In addition, we analyzed the clustering results of developed SOM module and compare them with those of K-means and Agglomerative Hierarchical algorithm in the aspects of homogeneity, separation, separation, silhouette width and accuracy. We also developed specialized visualization module fur more accurate interpretation of mining result.

  • Traditional frequent pattern mining considers equal profit/weight value of every item. Weighted Frequent Pattern (WFP) mining becomes an important research issue in data mining and knowledge discovery by considering different weights for different items. Existing algorithms in this area are based on fixed weight. But in our real world scenarios the price/weight/importance of a pattern may vary frequently due to some unavoidable situations. Tracking these dynamic changes is very necessary in different application area such as retail market basket data analysis and web click stream management. In this paper, we propose a novel concept of dynamic weight and an algorithm DWFPM (dynamic weighted frequent pattern mining). Our algorithm can handle the situation where price/weight of a pattern may vary dynamically. It scans the database exactly once and also eligible for real time data processing. To our knowledge, this is the first research work to mine weighted frequent patterns using dynamic weights. Extensive performance analyses show that our algorithm is very efficient and scalable for WFP mining using dynamic weights.

  • Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most common malignancy in Egypt. Data mining is a method of predictive analysis which can explore tremendous volumes of information to discover hidden patterns and relationships. Our aim here was to develop a non-invasive algorithm for prediction of HCC. Such an algorithm should be economical, reliable, easy to apply and acceptable by domain experts. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 315 patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) related chronic liver disease (CLD); 135 HCC, 116 cirrhotic patients without HCC and 64 patients with chronic hepatitis C. Using data mining analysis, we constructed a decision tree learning algorithm to predict HCC. Results: The decision tree algorithm was able to predict HCC with recall (sensitivity) of 83.5% and precession (specificity) of 83.3% using only routine data. The correctly classified instances were 259 (82.2%), and the incorrectly classified instances were 56 (17.8%). Out of 29 attributes, serum alpha fetoprotein (AFP), with an optimal cutoff value of ${\geq}50.3ng/ml$ was selected as the best predictor of HCC. To a lesser extent, male sex, presence of cirrhosis, AST>64U/L, and ascites were variables associated with HCC. Conclusion: Data mining analysis allows discovery of hidden patterns and enables the development of models to predict HCC, utilizing routine data as an alternative to CT and liver biopsy. This study has highlighted a new cutoff for AFP (${\geq}50.3ng/ml$). Presence of a score of >2 risk variables (out of 5) can successfully predict HCC with a sensitivity of 96% and specificity of 82%.

  • Text mining (TM) is most widely used to process the various unstructured text documents and process the data present in the various domains. The other name for text mining is text classification. This domain is most popular in many domains such as movie reviews, product reviews on various E-commerce websites, sentiment analysis, topic modeling and cyber bullying on social media messages. Cyber-bullying is the type of abusing someone with the insulting language. Personal abusing, sexual harassment, other types of abusing come under cyber-bullying. Several existing systems are developed to detect the bullying words based on their situation in the social networking sites (SNS). SNS becomes platform for bully someone. In this paper, An Enhanced text mining approach is developed by using Ensemble Algorithm (ETMA) to solve several problems in traditional algorithms and improve the accuracy, processing time and quality of the result. ETMA is the algorithm used to analyze the bullying text within the social networking sites (SNS) such as facebook, twitter etc. The ETMA is applied on synthetic dataset collected from various data a source which consists of 5k messages belongs to bullying and non-bullying. The performance is analyzed by showing Precision, Recall, F1-Score and Accuracy.

  • Increasing number of companies recognize that the understanding of customers and their markets is indispensable for their survival and business success. The companies are rapidly increasing the amount of investments to develop customer databases which is the basis for the database marketing activities. Database marketing is closely related to data mining. Data mining is the non-trivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown and potentially useful knowledge or patterns from large data. Data mining applied to database marketing can make a great contribution to reinforce the company's competitiveness and sustainable competitive advantages. This paper develops the classification model to select the most responsible customers from the customer databases for telemarketing system and evaluates the performance of the developed model using LIFT measure. The model employs the decision tree algorithm, i.e., CHAID which is one of the well-known data mining techniques. This paper also represents the effective database marketing strategy by applying the data mining technique to a credit card company's telemarketing system.

  • Web access sequence mining can discover the frequently accessed web pages pursued by users. Utility-based web access sequence mining handles non-binary occurrences of web pages and extracts more useful knowledge from web logs. However, the existing utility-based web access sequence mining approach considers web access sequences from the very beginning of web logs and therefore it is not suitable for mining data streams where the volume of data is huge and unbounded. At the same time, it cannot find the recent change of knowledge in data streams adaptively. The existing approach has many other limitations such as considering only forward references of web access sequences, suffers in the level-wise candidate generation-and-test methodology, needs several database scans, etc. In this paper, we propose a new approach for high utility web access sequence mining over data streams with a sliding window method. Our approach can not only handle large-scale data but also efficiently discover the recently generated information from data streams. Moreover, it can solve the other limitations of the existing algorithm over data streams. Extensive performance analyses show that our approach is very efficient and outperforms the existing algorithm.

  • In a big data platform, association rule mining applications could bring some benefits. For instance, in a agricultural big data platform, the association rule mining application could recommend specific products for farmers to grow, which could increase income. The key process of the association rule mining is the frequent itemsets mining, which finds sets of products accompanying together frequently. Former researches about this issue, e.g. Apriori, are not satisfying enough because huge possible sets can cause memory to be overloaded. In order to deal with it, SON algorithm has been proposed, which divides the considered set into many smaller ones and handles them sequently. But in a single machine, SON algorithm cause heavy time consuming. In this paper, we present a method to find association rules in our Hadoop based big data platform, by parallelling SON algorithm. The entire process of association rule mining including pre-processing, SON algorithm based frequent itemset mining, and association rule finding is implemented on Hadoop based big data platform. Through the experiment with real dataset, it is conformed that the proposed method outperforms a brute force method.

  • Due to the increasing use of very large databases, mining useful information and implicit knowledge from databases is evolving. However, most conventional data mining algorithms identify the relationship among features using binary values (TRUE/FALSE or 0/1) and find simple If-THEN rules at a single concept level. Therefore, implicit knowledge and causal relationships among features are commonly seen in real-world database and applications. In this paper, we thus introduce the mechanism of mining fuzzy association rules and constructing causal knowledge base form database. Acausal knowledge base construction algorithm based on Fuzzy Cognitive Map(FCM) and Srikant and Agrawal's association rule extraction method were proposed for extracting implicit causal knowledge from database. Fuzzy association rules are well suited for the thinking of human subjects and will help to increase the flexibility for supporting users in making decisions or designing the fuzzy systems. It integrates fuzzy set concept and causal knowledge-based data mining technologies to achieve this purpose. The proposed mechanism consists of three phases: First, adaptation of the fuzzy membership function to the database. Second, extraction of the fuzzy association rules using fuzzy input values. Third, building the causal knowledge base. A credit example is presented to illustrate a detailed process for finding the fuzzy association rules from a specified database, demonstration the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This study examined the characteristicso f the knowledge discovery and data mining algorithms to demonstrate how they can be used to predict health outcomes and provide policy information for hypertension management using the Korea Medical Insurance Corporation database. Specifically this study validated the predictive power of data mining algorithms by comparing the performance of logistic regression and two decision tree algorithms CHAID (Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection) and C5.0 (a variant of C4.5) since logistic regression has assumed a major position in the healthcare field as a method for predicting or classifying health outcomes based on the specific characteristics of each individual case. This comparison was performed using the test set of 4,588 beneficiaries and the training set of 13,689 beneficiaries that were used to develop the models. On the contrary to the previous study CHAID algorithm performed better than logistic regression in predicting hypertension but C5.0 had the lowest predictive power. In addition CHAID algorithm and association rule also provided the segment characteristics for the risk factors that may be used in developing hypertension management programs. This showed that data mining approach can be a useful analytic tool for predicting and classifying health outcomes data.
