  • There are a lot of different data in a company. Some of the data can be modified to produce valuable information on reliability. In this study different types of data that can be obtained in a company are reviewed. Reliability related data that can be taken throughout the life cycle of a product are also reviewed. Developing a method of gathering all of the pertinent data from the various sources and databases and pulling them into one central location is explained.

A Study on the Estimation Method of the Environmental Load Intensity for Analyzing GHG Reduction Effect of Han-Ok

  • The Korean government recently has rediscovered the potential value of Han-Ok, the Korean traditional house, as an eco-friendly building. In order to objectively verify the environmental performance of Han-Ok as a low carbon green building, this paper suggests the analysis method of GHG emission load of Korean traditional house, based on Life Cycle Assessment, which is commonly abbreviated to "LCA". The environmental impacts caused by building construction and operation can be analyzed through the sum of input and output data from every phase. The study particularly describes the GHG reduction effect by using traditional building materials such as wood products, traditional clay roof tiles, and mud, which are mainly used to construct Han-Ok. Also the study proposes the method for comparative analysis of quantity of GHG emissions in building's entire life cycle so that the data can be used as a reliable basis to optimize the environmental performance of building.

A Study on Clothing Benefits and Fashion Information Sources according to Family Life Cycle (가정생활주기에 따른 의복추구 혜택과 패션 정보원 유형 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare clothing benefits and the types of fashion information sources according to family life cycle. Subjects were selected through stratified sampling technique in Seoul and suburban area. Collection of the research data was made using a self-administered questionnaire survey. Factor analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan test were used to conduct the data analysis on 562 out of 600 questionnaires. Clothing benefit variables were reduced to five factors : fashion/social status, individuality, function/comfort, figure flaws compensation, and economic value. The result showed significant differences on 3 clothing benefits(fashion/social status, individuality, and function/comfort) and 5 fashion information soures (celebrities, street fashion, T.V commercial, Internet/home shopping, fashion catalog) according to family life cycle.

The Influences of Family Life Cycle Stages and perceived Time Pressure on Strategies for Coping with Time Constraints in Hosuewife-Teachers (가족생활주기에 따른 교직주부의 시간제약지각이 시간제약대처전략에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of family life cycle stages and perceived time pressure on strategies for coping with time constraints in housewife-teachers. The subjects of this study were 570 married women teachers who live with their husebands and children in junior and senior high schools in Taegu, A questionaire was used as survey method. Factor analysis and MANOVA were employed for data analysis and Scheffe test forpost-hoc analysis. The main findings were : First the effect of family life cycle stages on the use of personal time reducing strategies was different according to perceived time pressure. Second the effect of perceived time pressure on the use of personal time reducing strategies differed according to family life cycle stages. Third the use of strategies for coping with time contratins was found to be significantly different according to family life cycle stages, Forth there were significant differences in the use of strategies for coping with time constrainsts according to perceived time pressure.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the fundamental data for the effective housing remodeling plan. Through the questionnaire survey, the actual conditions of remodeling in apartment housing were investigated. And as the result of statistic analysis, the relationships between characteristics of remodeling and building life-cycle, and family life-stage, were found out. The major findings of this study are as follows; 1) Most of apartment residents have remodeled the family living space and private living space. In detail, they performed remodeling frequently the change of finishing materials, facilities and equipments, and the change of the location of curtain wall & storage fixtures. 2) It might be predicted that the building life-cycle was influential variable to predict apartment residents' remodeling. Therefore, in planning the support service for the remodeling, the building life-cycle should be taken into consideration.

  • The main purpose of Korea Space Launch Vehicle II(KSLV-II) Program is to develop a domestic launch vehicle that can deliver a 1.5ton class application satellite into a Low Earth Orbit(600~800km). The data management is an essential factor in systems engineering for success of large-scale complex systems development, and it systematically manages the information and technical data for the total life-cycle of a system. In this paper, data management policies and processes on KSLV-II program are presented, and product life-cycle management system for KSLV-II program is also presented.

Deep reinforcement learning for optimal life-cycle management of deteriorating regional bridges using double-deep Q-networks

  • Optimal life-cycle management is a challenging issue for deteriorating regional bridges. Due to the complexity of regional bridge structural conditions and a large number of inspection and maintenance actions, decision-makers generally choose traditional passive management strategies. They are less efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This paper suggests a deep reinforcement learning framework employing double-deep Q-networks (DDQNs) to improve the life-cycle management of deteriorating regional bridges to tackle these problems. It could produce optimal maintenance plans considering restrictions to maximize maintenance cost-effectiveness to the greatest extent possible. DDQNs method could handle the problem of the overestimation of Q-values in the Nature DQNs. This study also identifies regional bridge deterioration characteristics and the consequence of scheduled maintenance from years of inspection data. To validate the proposed method, a case study containing hundreds of bridges is used to develop optimal life-cycle management strategies. The optimization solutions recommend fewer replacement actions and prefer preventative repair actions when bridges are damaged or are expected to be damaged. By employing the optimal life-cycle regional maintenance strategies, the conditions of bridges can be controlled to a good level. Compared to the nature DQNs, DDQNs offer an optimized scheme containing fewer low-condition bridges and a more costeffective life-cycle management plan.

An integrated monitoring system for life-cycle management of wind turbines

  • With an annual growth rate of about 30%, wind energy systems, such as wind turbines, represent one of the fastest growing renewable energy technologies. Continuous structural health monitoring of wind turbines can help improving structural reliability and facilitating optimal decisions with respect to maintenance and operation at minimum associated life-cycle costs. This paper presents an integrated monitoring system that is designed to support structural assessment and life-cycle management of wind turbines. The monitoring system systematically integrates a wide variety of hardware and software modules, including sensors and computer systems for automated data acquisition, data analysis and data archival, a multiagent-based system for self-diagnosis of sensor malfunctions, a model updating and damage detection framework for structural assessment, and a management module for monitoring the structural condition and the operational efficiency of the wind turbine. The monitoring system has been installed on a 500 kW wind turbine located in Germany. Since its initial deployment in 2009, the system automatically collects and processes structural, environmental, and operational wind turbine data. The results demonstrate the potential of the proposed approach not only to ensure continuous safety of the structures, but also to enable cost-efficient maintenance and operation of wind turbines.

Companies Life Cycle Stages and Capital Structure in Emerging Markets: Evidence from Iran

  • Purpose - The current research examines the effect of life cycle stages on capital structure of listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange. Research design, data, methodology - By aid of 685 year-company data, which collected from financial statements of companies during 2006-2012, first, the companies, are classified into three groups including companies in growth, maturity and decline stages. After removing the companies, which were not in accordance with life cycle model, 86 companies were selected to test two main hypotheses of the research. Results - The results show that the capital structure of the sample companies is different in various life cycle stages. More investigation by LSD test also revealed that the total debt to total assets ratio means of the companies in growth stages were significantly different from those companies in maturity stages and those in growth stages had high level of debt to assets ratio. Conclusions - The result showed the average amount of the working capital for companies in three stages are significantly different and due to high level of operation of the companies in maturity and decline stages, these companies held high amount of working capital than those in the growth stages.
