Introduction of the Korea BioData Station (K-BDS) for sharing biological data

  • A wave of new technologies has created opportunities for the cost-effective generation of high-throughput profiles of biological systems, foreshadowing a "data-driven science" era. The large variety of data available from biological research is also a rich resource that can be used for innovative endeavors. However, we are facing considerable challenges in big data deposition, integration, and translation due to the complexity of biological data and its production at unprecedented exponential rates. To address these problems, in 2020, the Korean government officially announced a national strategy to collect and manage the biological data produced through national R&D fund allocations and provide the collected data to researchers. To this end, the Korea Bioinformation Center (KOBIC) developed a new biological data repository, the Korea BioData Station (K-BDS), for sharing data from individual researchers and research programs to create a data-driven biological study environment. The K-BDS is dedicated to providing free open access to a suite of featured data resources in support of worldwide activities in both academia and industry.

Energy-Aware Virtual Data Center Embedding

  • As one of the most significant challenges in the virtual data center, the virtual data center embedding has attracted extensive attention from researchers. The existing research works mainly focus on how to design algorithms to increase operating revenue. However, they ignore the energy consumption issue of the physical data center in virtual data center embedding. In this paper, we focus on studying the energy-aware virtual data center embedding problem. Specifically, we first propose an energy consumption model. It includes the energy consumption models of the virtual machine node and the virtual switch node, aiming to quantitatively measure the energy consumption in virtual data center embedding. Based on such a model, we propose two algorithms regarding virtual data center embedding: one is heuristic, and the other is based on particle swarm optimization. The second algorithm provides a better solution to virtual data center embedding by leveraging the evolution process of particle swarm optimization. Finally, experiment results show that our proposed algorithms can effectively save energy while guaranteeing the embedding success rate.

  • N-Data Center which provide of cloud computing service for the Government departments, will be prepared transforming to cloud data center and transformed into an 'IT service' provided as a service to the information resources required by each department. N-Data center already provide a cloud service to the departments as maintains a high level of security, and plan to connecting with the private sector as a precondition of security. Therefore, in order to promote them effectively, it is necessary to determine the level of security in the cloud data center, and we have proposed appropriate measures. In this paper, we analyze security requirements of cloud data centers in developed countries and identify the leading private cloud data center security. In addition, we identify the N-data center security level, and analyzes the data center and private cloud gap and provide a transition strategy in terms of security finally.

  • We have succeeded in producing the world $1^{st}$ TFT LCD panel adapting the data line sharing method. In the data line sharing structure, two neighboring pixels share one data line. We also adapted time shared data driving with a-Si TFT based circuit integration technology of LG Display's own. By using these technologies, we can reduce the number of source driver ICs by half, compared to that of the existing gate driver integrated TFT LCD panel.

Reliability Modeling of Direct Current Power Feeding Systems for Green Data Center

  • Data center is an information hub and resource for information-centric society. Since data center houses hundreds to ten thousands servers, networking and communication equipment, and supporting systems energy saving is one of the hottest issues for green data center. Among several solutions for green data center this paper introduces higher voltage direct current (DC) power feeding system. Contrary to legacy alternating current (AC) power feeding system equipped with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), higher voltage DC power feeding system is reported to be a more energy efficient and reliable solution for green data center thanks to less AC/DC and DC/AC conversions. Main focus of this paper is on reliability issue for reliable and continuous operation of higher voltage DC power feeding system. We present different types of configuration of the power feeding systems according to the level of reliability. We analyze the reliability of the power feeding systems based on M/M/1/N+1/N+1 queueing model. Operation of the power feeding system in case of failure is also presented.

  • Although the native local data is being deemed important in the age where historical records are regarded as important, currently it is hard to find out detailed actual state of local data, because it is now being collected and managed by many institutions and individuals. This study is aimed at surveying the current state of management of native local data possessed by local cultural center, one of institutions that produce and manage local data, and suggesting a desired alternative idea of cultural center for management of native local data, through the problems found by the research. As the result, the current state of data management of the local cultural center are as follows: First, local data management in the local cultural center as the problem in poor surroundings and a financial question get local data-related education make systematic data collection and management unavailable. Second, local data depends on the extent of its awareness of it. each and every cultural center shows a significant deviation in the extent of execution of local data-related project. Third, even though the publication business of the cultural center is being lively executed, it attaches importance to the history of local authority rather than to the residents' life, and it should not be supplemented in applying it to education and production of cultural contents.

  • The cooling of data centers has emerged as a significant challenge as the density of IT equipment increased. With the rapid increasing of heat load and cooling system, predictions for electronics power trends have been closely watched. A data center power density projection is needed so that IT organizations can develop data centers with adequate cooling for reasonable lifetimes. This paper will discuss the need for something more than processor and equipment power trend projections which have overestimated the required infrastructure for customers. This projection will use data from a survey of actual enterprise data centers and the ASHRAE projections to formulate a data center server heat load trend projection.

  • In efforts to increase its agricultural productivity, the Indonesian Center for Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Resources Research and Development has conducted a variety of genomic studies using high-throughput DNA genotyping and sequencing. The large quantity of data (big data) produced by these biotechnologies require high performance data management system to store, backup, and secure data. Additionally, these genetic studies are computationally demanding, requiring high performance processors and memory for data processing and analysis. Reliable network connectivity with large bandwidth to transfer data is essential as well as database applications and statistical tools that include cleaning, quality control, querying based on specific criteria, and exporting to various formats that are important for generating high yield varieties of crops and improving future agricultural strategies. This manuscript presents a reliable, secure, and scalable information technology infrastructure tailored to Indonesian agriculture genotyping studies.

  • In this paper we introduce how to analyze survival data via a SRC-Stat statistical package. This provides classical survival analysis (e.g. Cox's proportional hazards models for univariate survival data) as well as advanced survival analysis such as shared and nested frailty models for multivariate survival data. We illustrate the use of our package with practical data sets.
