Since 2010, Goth styles have risen rapidly in prominence as one of the major trends of fashion. This study intends to understand the Goth style shown from the modern fashion by examining its historically formative characteristics and internal meanings of the Goth style. With mystic attitude toward the medieval Gothic culture, Goth style refers to its reproduction over the cultural circles including music, literature and arts. From the result of the historical review, the formative characteristics of the Goth style may be divided into darkness, distortion, memento mori and bricolage. The historical review of the Goth style contains symbolic meaning of mystery, terror, escape and theatricality. After 2000, Goth style, in combination with factors such as postmodernism and human desire, has been established as the main trend of modern fashion, going with the popular culture. The formativeness of modern Goth fashion is the same as that of Goth style examined from the historic review. However, in modern Goth fashion, the symbolic meaning has the processes of the new: unconsciousness, kitsch, overthrow and popularity.
The removal efficiency of nutrient was investicated by using Glycine max Meer seedling. After budding, Glycine max Merr was raised at darkness for 4 days. During cultivation, the removal efficiency of $NO_2-N+NO_3-N$ was up to 90% with initial concentration of 20-100 ppm. The removal efficiency of PO$_4$-P was up to 80% with initial concentration at 30 ppm, but it was down to 22% and 27% at 40 ppm and 50 ppm. When the removal efficiency of nutrient was compared with alternating 12 hours' light and darkness, the removal efficiency of NO$_2$-N + NO$_3$-N was up to 90% at below 60 ppm. It was not different from each other. But it was particularly low about 62% and 34% at 80 ppm and 100 ppm in alternating 12 hours' light. The removal efficiency of PO$_4$-P was low at alternating 12 hours' light between 10-50 ppm on the whole range. The neutralizing capacity of pH was shown in acidity and alkalinity except strong acidity(below pH 3). The initial pH was neutralized at 6.0-7.7 of pH after 4 days. Particularly, Glycine max Meer seedling that was difference from other water plants, was shown the neutralizing capacity in strong alkalinity.
Objective : This clinical research was conducted to test patients with dark circles by external application with Chinensis galla, Lithospermi radix and Salviae miltiorrhizae radix in cosmetics. Methods : We gave prototype cosmetics to 27 patients who volunteered for this clinical research in Kyungwon university from October 14th, 2009 to November 11th. Left inferior palpebra area of patients was treated with Chinensis galla, Lithospermi radix and Salviae miltiorrhizae radix in cosmetics(Experimental group) and right inferior palpebra area of patients was treated with placebo(Control group) for 4weeks. We observed change of darkness of inferior palpebra and subjective satisfaction. Also taking digital image and color meter were used to evaluate the effects of Chinensis galla, Lithospermi radix and Salviae miltiorrhizae radix in cosmetics. Results : Overall evaluation was slightly positive. It is more effective on Right inferior palpebra than on Left inferior palpebra to improve darkness of inferior palpabra in this clinical research. Conclusion : We can guess that cosmetics with Chinensis galla, Lithospermi radix and Salviae miltiorrhizae radix has some therapeutical effects in reducing the symptoms of dark circles.

An intelligent developer replenish system was developed for automatic film processor. The system detects the gray level of a developed film and determines the amount of the developer to be added to the system. Using the film darkness detection system, it was found that the film darkness is inversely proportional to the amount of light exposure, that the developer retrograde after developing certain number of films without replenishment and the number is dependent upon the parts of the body, and that the developer does not retrograde when 30 ml of developer is added after each chest film processing. The use of this system resulted in a decrease in the amount of developer by 40%.
Didymella bryoniae, gummy stem blight fungus of cucurbits, has been known not to produce its pycnidium in vitro without irradiation. Various methods for producing pycnidiospores of the fungus as an inoculum have been used. However, those methods have not been verified in terms of efficiency of the productivity, activity and synchronous maturation of the inoculum. Therefore, a pycnidiospore production method in vitro that is highly reliable and reproducible has to be developed to obtain a large amount of inoculum for screening disease resistant varieties or effective fungicides. Here we standardized a mass-production technique for pycnidiospores of D. bryoniae in vitro by comprehensively finding the optimal conditions such as kinds and thickness of cultural medium, growing temperature, and quality and duration of irradiation as well as examining the activity and pathogenicity of the pycnidiospores reproduced. In brief, mycelial colony on the PDA plate was cultured at 26$^{\circ}C$ for 2 days under the darkness, and then the plate was irradiated under the UV light (12 hr/a day) for 2~3 days at the same temperature(26$^{\circ}C$). Two days after UV irradiation, a great number of pycnidia was simultaneously formed. This plate was subjected to darkness again for 4~5 days to mature pycnidiospores. We could obtain a large amount of inoculum that is synchronously matured in a short period of time through the above procedures.
Leaf movements in nyctinastic plants are produced by changes in the turgor of extensor and flexor cells, collectively called motor cells, in opposing regions of the leaf movement organ, the pulvinus. In Samanea saman, a tropical tree of the legume family, extensor cells shrink and flexor cells swell to bend the pulvinus and fold the leaf at night, whereas extensor cells swell and flexor cells shrink to straighten the pulvinus and extend the leaf in the daytime. These changes are caused by ion fluxes primarily of potassium and chloride, across the plasma membrane of the motor cells. These ion fluxes are regulated by exogenous light signals and an endogenous biolgical clock. Inward-directed K$^+$ channels are closed in extensor and open in flexor cells in the dark period, while these channels are open in extensor and closed in flexor cells in the light period. Blue light opens the closed K$^+$ channels in extensor and closes the open them in flexor cells during darkness. Illumination of red light followed by darkness induces to open the closed K$^+$ channels in flexor and to close the open K$^+$ channels in extensor cells in the light. The dynamics of K$^+$ channels in motor cells that are controlled by light signals are consistent with the behavior of the pulvini in intact plants. Therefore, these cell types are an attractive model system to elucidate regulations of ion transports and their signal transduction pathways in plants. This review is focused on light-controlled ion movements and regulatory mechanisms involved in phosphoinositide signaling in leaf movements in nyctinastic plants.
Photoreactivation of microorganism following UV-disinfection is one of the research topics of interest in assessing the UV-disinfection performance. Apparent photoreactivation was examined under fluorescent lamp and solar radiation as well as in darkness. Total coliform, fecal coliform, and Escherichia coli were used as indicator microorganisms, and their concentration was monitored with time after UV-disinfection. Under the darkness, their initial concentration of 10∼30 MPN/100 mL increased to the level of 100 MPN/100 mL after 24 hours, which implied that part of damaged microorganisms by UV-disinfection might be repairable with time. Under the fluorescent lamp, photoreactivation was more apparent that their concentration increased up to 1,000 MPN/100 mL which might significantly impair the water uses specially in reuse of reclaimed wastewater. However, their concentration further decreased down to below 2 MPN/100 mL under the solar radiation primarily due to additional disinfection by solar radiation rather than photoreactivation. Samples not disinfected by UV-disinfection also demonstrated substantial decrease of their concentration under solar radiation from about 5,000 MPN/100 mL to less than 30 MPN/100 mL in 24 hours. But direct reuse of effluent without disinfection is not recommended because natural decay by solar radiation may take time and be affected by climatic conditions. The result suggests that photoreactivation of pathogenic microorganisms may not be concerned in agricultural reuse of reclaimed wastewater because solar radiation may provide further disinfection after UV-disinfection.
Zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica) is one of the important turfgrass species. Extending green period of zoysiagrass via delaying leaf senescence will make this species have more potential in the turfgrass industry. In this study, we found that zoysiagrass seedlings treated with $GA_3$ could delay the leaf senescence induced by darkness. To study expression of genes responsive to staying green in zoysiagrass, suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) was used to identify differentially expressed genes between non-$non-GA_3-treated$ and $GA_3-treated$ seedlings subjected to darkness. A total of 307 ESTs were generated, of which 226 ESTs clustered into 54 contigs and 81 were singlets. Differentially expressed genes selected by subtractions were classified into six categories according to their putative functions generated by BLAST analysis. Expression of five selected genes, Met, SAM, V-ATPase, Cry (Cryptochrome gene), and An (diphthine synthase gene) were examined by RT-PCR and Real-time PCR. Both RT-PCR and Real-time PCR results demonstrated that the differential expressions of these genes were attributable to delaying senescence by exogenously applied gibberellic acid. This is the first genome-wide study of senescence in a species of turfgrass.

The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the teleost hypothalamus contains a central circadian pacemaker, which adjusts circadian rhythms within the body to environmental light-dark cycles. It has been shown that exposure to darkness during the day causes phase shifts in circadian rhythms. In this study, we examined the effect of exposure to darkness on the mRNA expression levels of two circadian clock genes, namely, $Period2$ ($Per2$) and $Cryptochrome1$ ($Cry1$), and the rate-limiting enzyme in melatonin synthesis, arylalkylamine $N$-acetyltransferase-2 (Aanat2), in the pineal gland of olive flounder, $Paralichthys$$olivaceus$. The expression of these genes showed circadian variations and was significantly higher during the dark phase. These changes may be involved in the mechanism of dark-induced phase shifts. Furthermore, this study suggests that olive flounder may be a teleost model to investigate the localization and function of circadian oscillators.
