In this paper, analysis of cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter in DTC-SVM (Direct Torque Control-Space Vector Modulation) based induction motor drive for FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) is presented. Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter uses multiple series units of H-bridge power cells to achieve medium-voltage operation and low harmonic distortion. In FCEV, a fuel cell stack is used as the major source of electric power moreover the battery and/or ultra-capacitor is used to assist the fuel cell. These sources are suitable for utilizing in cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter. The drive control strategy is based on DTC-SVM technique. In this scheme, first, stator voltage vector is calculated and then realized by SVM method. Contribution of multilevel inverter to the DTC-SVM scheme is led to achieve high performance motor drive. Simulations are carried out in Matlab-Simulink. Five-level and nine-level inverters are applied in 3hp FCEV induction motor drive for analysis the multilevel inverter. Each H-bridge is implemented using one fuel cell and battery. Good dynamic control and low ripple in the torque and the flux as well as distortion decrease in voltage and current profiles, demonstrate the great performance of multilevel inverter in DTC-SVM induction motor drive for vehicle application.
Torque ripple content and variable switching frequency operation of conventional direct torque control (DTC) are reduced by the integration of space vector modulation (SVM) into DTC. Integration of space vector modulation to conventional direct torque control known as SVM-DTC. It had been more frequently used method in renewable energy and machine drive systems. In this paper, SVM-DTC is used to control the rotor side converter (RSC) of a wind driven doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) because of its advantages such as reduction of torque ripples and constant switching frequency operation. However, flux and torque ripples are still dominant due to distorted current waveforms at different operations of the wind turbine. Therefore, to smoothen the torque profile a Neural Network Controller (NNC) based SVM-DTC has been proposed by replacing the PI controller in the speed control loop of the wind turbine controller. Also, stability analysis and simulation study of DFIG using process reaction curve method (RRCM) are presented. Validation of simulation study in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment of proposed wind driven DFIG system has been performed by laboratory developed prototype model. The proposed NNC based SVM-DTC yields superior torque response and ripple reduction compared to other methods.

In conventional direct torque control (DTC) using space-vector modulation (SVM) of induction machine (IM) drives, at least three current sensors are needed. In this paper, a low-cost SVM-DTC strategy is proposed, in which only a single current sensor is used. The position of the voltage space vector is divided into two areas: effective and non-effective area. If it is located in the non-effective area, the voltage space vector will be shifted into the effective area with minimum distortion. Further, the switching frequency remains constant. The simulation is carried out on a MATLAB/Simulink platform and the simulated results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
The direct torque control (DTC) scheme features a simple structure thanks to stator flux-oriented control. It has the advantage of robustness against motor parameters variation since only the stator resistance is involved in the control scheme. On the other hand, the disadvantage of DTC is large torque ripple. To reduce the torque ripple, many studies on DTC-space vector modulation (DTC-SVM) schemes, which modulate the duty ratio with a fixed switching cycle, have been proposed. However, there is the difficulty in obtaining the duty ratio for DTC-SVM. Hence, this paper proposes a new duty ratio selection and stator flux calculation methods for reducing torque ripple. Simulations and experiments were carried out to determine the validity of the proposed method. The proposed scheme has simplified the duty ratio command and achieved the same control performance as the conventional duty ratio modulation method without using the information of motor parameters.

Direct torque control based on space vector modulation (SVM-DTC) protects the DTC transient merits. Furthermore, it creates better quality steady-state performance in a wide speed range. The modified method of DTC using SVM improves the electrical magnitudes of asynchronous machines, such as minimizing the stator current distortions, the stator flux with electromagnetic torque without ripple, the fast response of the rotor speed, and the constant switching frequency. In this paper, the proposed method is based on two new control strategies for direct torque control with space vector modulation. First, fuzzy logic control is used instead of the PI torque and a PI flux controller to minimizing the torque error and to achieve a constant switching frequency. The voltages in the direct and quadratic reference frame ($V_d$, $V_q$) are achieved by fuzzy logic control. In this scheme, the switching capability of the inverter is fully utilized, which improves the system performance. Second, the close loop of stator flux estimation based on the voltage model and a low pass filter is used to counteract the drawbacks in the open loop of the stator flux such as the problems saturation and dc drift. The response of this new control strategy is compared with DTC-SVM. The experimental and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control topology outperforms the conventional DTC-SVM in terms of system robustness and eliminating the bad outcome of dc-offset.

Direct torque control(DTC) is known to produce quick response in ac drives. Some drawbacks of the classical DTC are the relatively large torque ripple in a low speed range and notable current pulsation during steady state. They are reflected speed response and increased acoustical noise. In this paper, The DTC quick response are preserved at transient state, while better qualify steady state performance is produced by Space Vector Modulation(SVM). It is able to reduce the acoustical noise, torque ripple and current pulsation during steady state. The system presented are closed loop stator flux and torque observer for wide speed range that inputs are currents and voltages sensing of motor terminal. Simulation results for the 2.2kw general purposed induction motor are presented and discussed.

This paper describes a novel Direct Torque Control (DTC) method for adjustable speed Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) drives which is supplied by a two-level Space Vector Modulation (SVM) voltage source inverter (DTC-SVM) in the rotor circuit. The inverter reference voltage vector is obtained by using input-output feedback linearization control and a DFIM model in the stator a-b axes reference frame with stator currents and rotor fluxes as state variables. Moreover, to make this nonlinear controller stable and robust to most varying electrical parameter uncertainties, a two layer recurrent Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used to estimate a certain function which shows the machine lumped uncertainty. The overall system stability is proved by the Lyapunov theorem. It is shown that the torque and flux tracking errors as well as the updated weights of the ANN are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, effectiveness of the proposed control approach is shown by computer simulation results.

In this paper, an improved direct torque control (DTC) method for sensorless matrix converter drives is proposed which enables to minimize torque ripple, to obtain unity input power factor, and to achieve good sensorless speed-control performance in the low speed operation, while maintaining constant switching frequency and fast torque dynamics. It is possible to combine the advantages of matrix converters with the advantages of the DTC strategy using space vector modulation and a flux deadbeat controller. To overcome the phase current distortion by the non-linearity of a matrix converter drive, the simple non-linearity compensation method using PQR power theory are presented in the proposed scheme. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed strategy.
