Solid dispersion is used to improve the solubility of water-insoluble drug. Release properties depend on the characteristics of polymer and the physicochemical properties of solid dispersion. In this study the solid dispersions of ibuprofen and cellulose acetate were prepared using spray-drying and rotary evaporation. The physicochemical properties of the solid dispersions were analyzed by SEM, XRD, DSC, and FTIR. The hydrophilicity of polymer was analyzed by measuring the contact angle of water. The results of DSC and XRD analysis demonstrated that the crystallinity of ibuprofen was changed by solid dispersion preparation. The results of contact angle showed that hydrophilicity was proportional to polymer content. Release profile showed that for solid dispersion. the release rate of ibuprofen decreased as polymer content increased in intestinal juice (pH 6.8). The dissolution rate of ibuprofen was improved with increasing polymer content in gastric juice (pH 1.2).
Nylon66 extrudates as a function of the extrusion number were prepared by a twin screw extruder. Chemical structures, thermal properties, melt index, crystal structures, mechanical properties such as the tensile strength, elongation at break and impact strength, and rheological property were measured by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, melt indexer, DSC, TGA, XRD, universal tensile tester, Izod impact tester, and rheometer. FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR characterizations indicated that the number of extrusions did not affect the chemical structure. The decrease in the molecular weight was checked by the melt index of extrudates. There were no effects of the thermal history on the melting and degradation temperature. The tensile and impact strength and modulus were found to be similar, regardless of the number of extrusions, but the elongation decreased significantly. The complex viscosity of extrudates at low frequencies decreased with the extrusion number. No structural changes after extrusion were confirmed from the fact that there was no change in the slope and shape of G'-G" plot.
A series of organic-inorganic hybrids, PCL/EP/$SiO_2$, involving epoxy resin and triethoxysilane-terminated polycaprolactone elastomer (PCL-TESi) were prepared via polymerization of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) with amine curing agent KB-2 and sol-gel process of PCL-TESi. The curing reactions were started from the initially homogeneous mixture of DGEBA, KB-2 and the PCL-TESi. The organicinorganic hybrids containing up to 4.95% (wt) of $SiO_2$ were obtained and characterized by FT-IR, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). It was experimentally shown that the swelling property in toluene, morphologies and thermal properties of the resulting hybrids were quite dependent on the contents of $SiO_2$. The crosslink network density decreases with increasing of the PCL-TESi. And in TEM, the phase separated morphology of these hybrids was found, which resulted from the coagulation of Si-O-Si networks resulting from $-Si(OC_2H_5)_3$ of PCL-TESi self-curing by hydrolytic silanol condensation, with the advancement of the curing reaction in the modified epoxy resin systems. Meanwhile, the change of the $SiO_2$ content made the morphologies changed from aggregated particles of Si-O-Si in the hybrid to nanocluster of interconnected Si-O-Si particles, then to aggregated Si-O-Si dispersing in the continuous cured epoxy phase again, and last to co-continuous interpenetrating network. The glass transition behavior of the hybrid material was cooperative motion of large chain segments, which were hindered by the inorganic Si-O-Si network. And in TG analysis, the characteristic temperature at 5% of weight loss was evidently increased from $120.5^{\circ}C$ of pure cured epoxy to $277.6^{\circ}C$ of 3.84% (wt) of $SiO_2$ modified epoxy due to the existence of Si-O-Si when PCL-TESi was added in the hybrid.

This study was investigated the thermal properties of underfill with various epoxy resins using thermal analysis methods such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermo gravimetry analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermo-mechanical analysis (TMA). And, the adhesion strength of the underfills/FR-4 substrate was evaluated. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of underfill which was composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin was lower than that of underfill which was not composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin. The thermal degradation of underfill was composed of two processes, which involved chemical reactions between the degrading polymer and oxygen from the air atmosphere. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of underfill which was composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin was higher than that of underfill which was not composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin. The excessive curing temperatures caused a weak boundary layer of epoxy resin, which resulted in a deterioration of mechanical properties in the epoxy resin and thus led to poor adhesion property between the underfill/FR-4 substrate.

To manufacture of a completely biodegradable and compostable biomass -based blend polymer film, two types of cellulose acetates(DS=2.4 and DS=2.7) were blended with 5 - 50 wt% of low average molecular weight polylactide(PLA) by mixing each polymer solution having same viscosity in 10 wt% methanol/dichloromethane. Their surface morphology, thermal and mechanical properties were studied. The chemical structures of blend films were confirmed by the fourier transform IR spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection(FT-IR ATR) spectrophotometer. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) photos of blend films of both CAs with less than 5 % of PLA showed homogeneous morphology. On the contrary, the other blends with higher than 20 wt% of PLA content showed a large phase separation with spherical domains. The thermal property of blend films was also analyzed with thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC). The tensile strength of CA/PLA blend films was increased up to $820kg_f/cm^2$ for TAC/PLA and $600kg_f/cm^2$ for DAC/PLA.

Bis(dithiobenzil) metal complex, used as functional NIR absorbing dye and photostabilizer, was synthesized using bezoin and anisoin as intermediate compounds. And squarylium, a charge generation material, was synthesized to find its photostability effect. The structure of the product was determined by $^1H-NMR$ and FT-IR and the thermal property was analyzed by DSC and TGA. Optical property and photostability were determined by UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. High absorbance was obtained in the NIR range and maximum absorbing wavelength was shifted depending on the nature and position of substituent in the bis(dithiobenzil) metal complex. The photofading effect of squarylium decreased by the addition of bis(dithiobenzil) metal complex.

A novel silicon-containing arylacetylene resin (MSAR) modified by dipropargyl ether of bisphenol A (DPBPA) and dipropargyl ether of perfluorobisphenol A (DPPFBPA) was prepared separately. The curing behaviors of modified resins, DPBPA/MSAR and DPPFBPA/MSAR, were characterized with differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The kinetic parameters of modified resins were obtained by the Kissinger and Ozawa methods. The results of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) revealed that the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of the cured DPBPA/MSAR reached $486^{\circ}C$. According to the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the decomposition temperature ($T_{d5}$) of the cured resins and char yield ($Y_c$, $800^{\circ}C$) decreased as the dipropargyl ether loadings increased, especially in air. With the same weight loading, thermal stability of DPBPA/MSAR was better than that of DPPFBPA/MSAR. The carbon fiber (T300) reinforced composites exhibited excellent flexural properties at room temperature with a high property retention at $300^{\circ}C$.
Poly(butylenes terephthalate) have made large strides in applications of injection, extrusion, and molding material due to their excellent thermal resistance and appropriate mechanical properties. However, PBT was not hard polymer but a soft polymer which caused low absorption of external energy and the defect of being easily broken with the strong impact. Thus, the electron beam irradiation was carried out over a range of irradiation doses from 100 to 1,000 kGy for enhancing the properties. The decreases of $T_m$, $T_c$, and enthalpy were observed as increasing the absorbed dose in the results of DSC analysis. The improvement in the impact strength of PBT was clearly observed as the absorbed dose was increased. This was probably due to the 3-dimensional network structures, resulting in increasing the absorption of impact energy. In addition, the wear properties had increased at higher than 300 kGy. The negative deviation of weight loss confirmed the improvement of the wear properties of PBT, as evidenced by SEM observation on the wear surfaces.
The waste tire powder is modified with allylamine in the presence of ultraviolet radiation and the influence of surface modification on the thermal and rheological properties of polypropylene/waste tire powder composites was investigated. X-ray diffraction studies of PP/waste tire powder composite without compatibilizer, such as maleic anhydride-g-polypropylene (MA-PP), shows the increase in peak intensity of ${\beta}$ crystalline peaks, whereas it completely disappears in the presence of the MA-PP. Differential scanning calorimetry results further supported the above fact. The melt viscosities and storage modulus of the composites with modified waste tire powder show higher value than that of composites with unmodified powder and it is attributed to the interaction between amine group on modified powder surface and maleic anhydride of MA-PP.
In this study, the effect of molecular features of guest molecules on the structure, property, and formation of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/beta-cyclodextrin (bCD) inclusion compound hybrid films was investigated using three types of guest molecules such as hydroquinone (HQ), arbutin (AB), and tranexamic acid (TA). First, the successful formation of inclusion compounds between bCD and the guest molecules, and polymer/inclusion compound hybrid were proved using Raman spectroscopy. The effect of bCD-based inclusion compounds on the structure and property of PVA matrix composites containing inclusion compounds was also studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermal analyses such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was notable that the effect of TA to the crystalline structure of the PVA was significantly different from that of using other guest molecules including HQ and AB. It was also supported by a simple molecular simulation result. This article will be a good example for demonstrating the effect of molecular characteristics on the inclusion compound formation in polymer films, which can provide important information for relevant future research.
