  • In this paper, for the WiMedia Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB. performance degradation due to the Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) conflict problem caused by devices' mobility is analyzed. And a DRP relay protocol and a DRP conflict resolution (CR) are proposed to overcome the performance degradation at DRP conflicts. In order to give the loser device at DRP conflicts a chance to maintain resources, the proposed DRP relay protocol executed at each device helps the loser device reserve an indirect link maintaining the required resources via a relay node. Simulation results considering the mobile environment have indicated that the DRP relay combined with the CR prevent the throughput decrease even though mobility of devices increases.

  • In this paper, a conflict-avoided resource reservation scheme for UWB (Ultra Wide Band) WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) with D-MAC (Distributed Medium Access Control) is proposed. Since distributed characteristic of the WiMedia D-MAC supporting DRP (Distributed Reservation Protocol) scheme may cause lots of conflicts, overall performances of the WiMedia D-MAC can be deteriorated. In addition, once a DRP conflict occurs, only one of the DRP reservations involved in that DRP conflict maintains the reserved MASs, while the other DRP reservation must be terminated and DRP negotiations for them have to be re-started. Such DRP termination and renegotiation time delays due to the DRP conflicts can be a critical problem to the mobile devices transceiving real-time QoS traffic streams. Therefore, we propose a mechanism to avoid DRP conflicts by providing a kind of path diversity using relay transmission scheme and demonstrate its performance improvements via simulation results.

In this paper, firstly, performance degradation due to the Private Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) conflict problem caused by devices' mobility is analyzed. And a novel relay transmission protocol combined with Private DRP conflict resolution is proposed to overcome the performance degradation at Private DRP conflicts. In order to give the loser device due to Private DRP conflicts another chance to maintain resources, the proposed relay transmission protocol executed at each device helps the loser device reserve another indirect link maintaining the required resources via a relay node.

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and Wireless USB. In this paper, firstly, the fair SoQ-based Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) for D-MAC is analyzed. And a novel SoQ-based relay transmission protocol is proposed to overcome DRP conflicts fast. In the proposed protocol, each device executes the Satisfaction of QoS (SoQ) time slot allocation algorithm independently. And, in order to give the loser device due to DRP conflicts another chance to maintain QoS resources, the proposed relay transmission protocol helps the device reserve another indirect link maintaining the required QoS resources via a relay node.

  • In this paper, WiMedia Distributed-MAC protocol is adopted for development of a seamless N-screen wireless service. Furthermore, to provide the OSMU (One Source Multi Use) N-screen service through P2P streaming in the seamless D-MAC protocol, a new Multicast-free DRP Availability IE is proposed and analyzed. In this Multicast-free DRP Availability IE, indicating Multicast DRP Owner and Receiver is required. The ACK frame transmissions are not required for Multicast transmissions in P2P N-screen services. Using this property, the Multicast-free DRP Availability IE scheme is proposed to expand the number of time slots available for unicast and multicast DRP reservations. Simulation results show that our Multicast scheme enhances performances in vewpoints of DRP reservation conflict and throughput.

  • In this paper, we propose a QoS (Quality of Service)-aware and cooperative resource reservation scheme using cross-layer link adaptation for wireless high definition video transmission through UWB (Ultra Wide Band) network with D-MAC (Distributed Medium Access Control). A wireless high definition video transmission system usually requires stable high throughput even without line-of-sight, e.g., a destination device in another room separated by a wall. Since the WiMedia D-MAC supporting DRP (Distributed Reservation Protocol) scheme causes lots of DRP resource reservation conflicts due to failure of beacon detection in wireless channel environment, overall performances of the WiMedia D-MAC can be deteriorated. And the current WiMedia MAC standard has not considered QoS provisioning even though QoS parameters such as a range of service rates are provided to each traffic stream. Therefore, we propose Relay DRP protocol with QoS-based relay node selection criterion, which makes a relay path to avoid DRP resource reservation conflicts and guarantee QoS more stably through cross-layer link adaptation of cooperative relay transmission scheme and is compliant with the current WiMedia D-MAC protocol. Simulation results demonstrate performance improvements of the proposed method for throughput and QoS provisioning.

  • In this paper, we propose a cooperative protocol of relay-based WUSB/DRD and WLP device in WSS of ship area WiMedia environment. For this purpose, we investigate a RNT table configuration and algorithm of RNS relay node used in relay-based cooperative communication. Then, we describe a device that makes up WLP network and propose a cooperative protocol for WUSB/DRD/WLP device communication. The proposed cooperative protocol can communicate with WUSB/DRD/WLP devices by using standard DRP reservation and WUSB DRP reservation.

  • WiMedia UWB technology is a fully distributed data communication technology developed for the application demanding a high data transmission rate in the wireless PAN area. In general, devices can send data either by reserving time slots or by using prioritized CSMA/CA. If the PCA protocol of prioritized CSMA/CA is used, they are suffered congestion as the number of devices increases. In this paper, we propose a Deterministic Access Protocol(DAP) in WiMedia WPANs. A DAP is a method to transmit data in the non-reserved DRP period without competition as each device informs the beacon order information in the beacon period and the queue information. In addition, the problem that the devices with a lower beacon slot number have more transmission opportunities is addressed by introducing the reference point. Simulation results are given to demonstrate that a DAP can improve the throughput and reduce the packet loss rate.
