  • In ubiquitous geographic information environment, the users are provided with geographic information anywhere and any time on their needs by any types of devices and communication media. The unique location ID, ePosition, is a new technology to support UBGI environment, using a logical location ID instead of physical location of a point of interest. Domain names of plural ePosition servers, where location information with its ePosition is stored, needs to be registered in DNS for some service through Internet. For better ePosition service of the type of public service like email service, a set of DNS resource records can be newly defined. This paper suggests a new DNS resource record EPO for implementation of the ePosition service through Internet.

  • NAPTR(Naming Authority Pointer) is a type of resource record specified IETF RFC 2915. NAPTR enables to register various services in tile domain name systems and thus Provides a way to discover services available on specific hosts. This paper describes the design and implementation of a proxy DNS system aimed at supporting NAPTRS. The goal of this work is to study on the feasibility of the service discovery registered in DNS via NAPTR records. This research result can be applied to service discovery in the resource information management for high performance GRID environments as well as to implement generic ENUM services

This paper describes the design and implementation of a Proxy DNS system aimed at supporting NAPTRs. • In this paper we propose a new algorithm which resolves the inconsistency problems occurring when DNS severs are employed as elements of PKI. The inconsistency may take place between primary name servers and secondary name servers and between cached certificate and original certificate. The former can be removed by adapting RFC 1996 NOTIFY opcode for DNS. In order to eliminate the latter type of inconsistency we develope a new algorithm which is implemented with two additional RR(Resource Record). The present algorithm is designed such that DNS contacts the destination DNS prior to returning public key to users. Therefore the inconsistency problem occurring when DNS is operated as PKI can be eliminated by using the proposed adaptation and algorithm.

  • ENUM(tElephon NUmbering Mapping) is protocol that brings convergence between PSTN Networks and IP Networks using a unique worldwide E.164 telephone number as an identifier between different communication infrastructure. The mechanism provides a bridge between two completely different environments with E.164 number; IP based application services used in PSTN networks, and PSTN based application services used in IP networks. We propose a new way to organize and handle ENUM Tier 2 name servers to improve performance at the name resolution process in ENUM based application service. We build an ENUM based network model when NAPTR(Naming Authority PoinTeR) resource record is registered and managed by area code at the initial registration step. ENUM promises convenience and flexibility to both PSTN and IP users, yet there is no evidence how much patience is required when users decide to use ENUM instead of non-ENUM based applications. We have estimated ENUM response time, and proved how to improve performance up to 3 times when resources are managed by the proposed mechanism. The proposition of this thesis favorably influences users and helps to establish the policy for Tier 2 name server management.
